KHANATE Calls It Quits - Sep. 24, 2006

"Extreme doom" metal band KHANATE, the brainchild of Stephen O'Malley
(THORR'S HAMMER, BURNING WITCH, SUNN 0))), LOTUS EATERS) and James Plotkin
(OLD, SCORN, ATOMSMASHER), has disbanded. In a statement, Plotkin writes,
"I have decided to leave KHANATE due to the lack of commitment of certain
members. The decision was a difficult one, as I've put six years and
immeasurable amounts of creativity into the band hoping to take it as far
as possible. The past year has brought about many missed opportunities and
the realization that some players are more concerned with personal careers
and day jobs rather than the advancement of music as an artform.

"I will continue to work with drummer Tim Wyskida on a number of other
projects, mainly KHLYST and our improvisational duo.

"Gratitude to all those that have supported what we have done and
acknowledged our importance in modern music.

"The companion album to 'Capture & Release' is currently being mixed. This
yet untitled work consists of spontaneous recordings made during the 'C&R'
sessions dating back to February 2005. This will be my final work in
KHANATE. There are plans for Japanese issues of the self-titled and
'Things Viral' CDs with expanded packaging and bonus discs with unreleased
material."

The only reaction I could conjure after reading that was "eh."

the2stranger 09-25-2006 02:16 PM

Why "eh'?
Is that good or bad?

Kage 09-25-2006 02:18 PM

It's just not caring. I wish I could acknowledge their importance, as he so eloquently put it, but I don't really find them to be all that important.

the2stranger 09-25-2006 02:20 PM

I enjoyed their music, that's all for me.
I don't find them to be very important, but still it's a shame. :(

Tyr 09-25-2006 02:48 PM

The new Katatonia was really good. I'll be sure to give it more listenings soon.

the2stranger 09-25-2006 02:50 PM

:D
Yes it's awesome eh?
Jonas has such emotive vocals.

Have you seen this:
http://metal-videos.blogspot.com/2006/07/katatonia-concert-in-poland.html
Live gig, awesome quality.

repcak 09-25-2006 02:51 PM

i never gave Katatonia a second chance ... i still prefer their death-doom era... and i love Brave Murder Day... this album is just perfect.

Kage 09-25-2006 02:53 PM

I love the part in the song Deliberation where he says: "See us sleep behind the glass, unaware of crime. Wil you wake us up before it is time?"

Great album. That concert you linked to is awesome. I get to see them this November, I'm so excited. :D

the2stranger 09-25-2006 02:53 PM

BMD is awesome, but I must say, I enjoy their rock-ish stuff better now.
Melancholy. :D

repcak 09-25-2006 02:55 PM

i don't know but i can't stand the lyrics...

so which rock-ish album their best one?

Kage 09-25-2006 02:56 PM

Why not?

the2stranger 09-25-2006 02:57 PM

I love Jonas lyrics.
Let me find some of my favorites:
My lips are dry you gave me drugs to try
Hold me when I die
The sky has frozen to a wall
We die we all

repcak 09-25-2006 02:58 PM

i have the great cold distance and viva emptiness - which is better?

Kage 09-25-2006 02:58 PM

Viva Emptiness is probably better because it's less produced and is more consistent throughout. I love that album so much. Plus, it's more unique, whereas TGCD basically just extended what they did on Viva Emptiness with better production.

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:01 PM

VE is way more vocal driven, which is never bad with such an amzaing vocalist.
TGCD is great too, but I prefer VE.

A Premonition is so awesome, with the mellotron and Jonas vocal line following it's lead.

I'm going to play the album right now actually. :D

repcak 09-25-2006 03:03 PM

two more songs and the Hollenthon cd will end... then i will listen to VE.

Kage 09-25-2006 03:03 PM

I'm listening to TGCD, but VE is next up on my playlist. My favorite song on VE is Evidence. The ending, "I'm the evidence, you passed the test and that's so good for you.." is killer.
two more songs and the Hollenthon cd will end... then i will listen to VE.
Sweet, let us know.

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:04 PM

Killer as well:
Look at me now they have cut my hair
It's a long way back
They kicked me down and I could not rise
I will never arrive

Great!
Repcak: Wht Hollenton cd do you have?
I heard a few songs by them on i-net radio, pretty cool.

Kage 09-25-2006 03:05 PM

Oh man, that part is so amazing, I get so lost in it every time.

repcak 09-25-2006 03:07 PM

I have Domus Mundi... i love them, how the mix all the elements + they are from vienna :D

Hollenthon is one of my fav bands... sure there are fav bands lyrical-wise, atmosphere-wise, guitar-wise, and so on... but hollenthon has its own category... "epic" will describe it at its best!!

i can recommend this cd to everyone!!!
http://sputnikmusic.com/album.php?albumid=1194
can't imagine there is anyone who would not like it...

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:08 PM
Oh man, that part is so amazing, I get so lost in it every time.
His vocals, he just sounds like he's going to die of misery.
Jonas is one of my favorite vocalists and Katatonia my top artitst on Lastfm.

np: Sleeper
I have Domus Mundi... i love them, how the mix all the elements + they are from vienna
Cool, never knew that.
Let me see if my distro has it.

repcak 09-25-2006 03:17 PM

NP: Katatonia - evidence

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:20 PM

No Hollenton at my distro, sold out. Damn.

The lyrics to A Premonition are great too:

This is when I listen for the forgiving voice.
It haunts my dreams....
It haunts my dreams....

/Shivers. :)

repcak 09-25-2006 03:21 PM

i like the lyrics to sleeper... great song!

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:25 PM

Anyonne fan of Damiel's chops?
They certainly made a progression, drumwise, since Brave Murder Day.
I'm so glad they took Daniel as a drummer, he has such creative beats and fills, he's a great axemple for me. :)

I really like him, yeah. I think I explained why in my review for Last Fair Deal Gone Down on Sputnik.

the2stranger 09-25-2006 03:35 PM

Great review.
I love the album.
I listened to it last week.

Shattered_Future 09-25-2006 03:39 PM

I personally like TGCD more, but both albums are excellent. Great lyrics.

Listening to some Mar De Grises now...South American death/doom band. So far, it's pretty good.
