I like moe. live. I haven't seen many jam bands, though, so I might be the wrong guy to ask.

Tea Leaf Green's studio album didn't move me like their live stuff. A little disappointing.

KMidura 04-12-2006 08:41 PM

In the same vein, North Mississippi Allstars are great live, but I didn't like Electric Blue Watermelon And when I saw them live they played most of the songs on that album. A lot of Jam Band songs just simply don't translate well to the studio.

jpj 04-12-2006 10:21 PM

You didn't like ELB? I love it lots.

Crumbumonkey5 04-14-2006 06:20 AM

Sorry, the Dead are much more important.

Song: Sugar Magnolia
Album: Europe 72
You didn't like ELB? I love it lots.
I love most every song on the album... live. I guess the problem was that I had been introduced to all those songs in concert, and they just don't even come close in a studio format. Also, it felt like an extremely short disc (I don't have it in front of me, but I don't think the overall playtime was over 60 minutes). The other part might have been that it was so hyped that my expectations were way to high.
[Edit: overall play time on ELB is only 49 minutes, with 11 tracks. Way too short of songs for my liking. I know it's studio, but even still...]

We'll discuss the Dead, but you have to give us something to discuss.

robo2448 04-16-2006 01:03 PM

I'm listening to EBW right now. I like the Hill Country Revue live album more, but I'm still a big fan of this. Mean Ol' Wind Died Down is great. I hope I can see them live.

jpj 04-16-2006 09:33 PM

I had the chance to see them last year, but I didn't go :-/

And I usually prefer shorter albums because unless the album is really amazingly good, I usually get bored or just stop paying attention on longer albums.

KMidura 04-18-2006 11:30 PM

I see that many of you guys have signed up for the Blues mailing list, and while that covers many similar artists to jambands, I was wondering if we shouldn't also start one. If enough people voice interest I'll take up the initiative.

On a side note, most unfortunately YSI has stopped allowing up to a gig for free, in fact, it's down to 100 mb. So that wonderful system no longer works. I've got a friend who I share music with frequently, does anyone know a similar system that works well?

jpj 04-19-2006 02:03 PM

You mean a site like YSI? There's megaupload, but downloads are slow, and it has pop-ups. Then there's rapidshare, but you have to wait like 80 minutes between downloads, and there's one more I know of, but I can't think of the name.

wanton 04-20-2006 02:10 PM

I'd contribute if we started a mailing list.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-20-2006 02:14 PM

Anyone here listen to Steely Dan?

JonG 04-21-2006 03:18 PM

We could start a mailing list, except most of the jam bands are on Archive.org for bootlegs. :)

robo2448 04-21-2006 04:34 PM

Yeah I was going to say what Jon said about tons of jam band stuff being on the archive. But I'd definitely sign up for and contribute to a jam band mailing list if anyone starts one.

Steely Dan is great. All I have is Aja but it's really good. For some reason, they're a band I never bothered to check out on my own, but someone sent out Aja and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

sendspace is the other filesharing program.

TLG tomorrow night. w00t!
We could start a mailing list, except most of the jam bands are on Archive.org for bootlegs. :)
I'd imagine this mailing list would include stuff that isn't/no longer allowed on archive.

eg. Commercial releases [Dick's Picks/Live Phish], Phish shows, GD soundboards, Allman Bros. shows, North Mississippi Allstars shows (I was shocked when I found out they weren't on the archive)

JonG 04-22-2006 02:15 AM

I'm up for it. I have around 40 Deadlegs by now and about 6 Dick's Picks.

PinkFreud 04-22-2006 02:35 AM

I'd definitely be down for it. I've got a ton of live Allman's and what n ot.

jpj 04-22-2006 11:17 AM

I could contribute, I have an Allmans Instant Live, some Dick's Picks, some Wartsandalls, and we could do studio albums too.

jambandmailinglist-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

you may have to register an account with Yahoo, but that seemed relatively low hassle for the ease.

PinkFreud 04-24-2006 10:22 PM

What do we need to do?

KMidura 04-25-2006 12:49 PM

All you have to do is send an email to the one listed above, and it'll put you on the mailing list.

After doing so, it will send you an email back detailing how to send a message to the group. I'm pretty sure that all that's involved in that process is sending your email to the address jambandmailinglist@yahoogroups.com, and then it sends it to all on the mailing list. However, you do have to be subsribed in order to do so.

My thoughts are, whenever one of us wants to send an album to the listserve all you have to do is upload it to YSI or rapidshare, and then send the link in an email to the group.

jpj 04-25-2006 05:33 PM

Well, I sent an e-mail to it. Now we just need some more people.

KMidura 04-25-2006 10:07 PM

Just to make this perfectly clear, you must email jambandmailinglist-subscribe@yahoogroups.com in order to signup. Then respond to the initial email. Signup, and it will send you the "welcome to the group" email.

Also, does anyone have So Many Roads? I lost the set a while back and I'm real pissed.

I know it's a pain in the *** to send 5 files, and am more than willing to trade other box sets. ie. Dead Live at the Filmore (missing disc 2), a few live Phish albums, a few Dick's Picks, How the west was won (Zeppelin), Closing of Winterland, Allman Bros at the filmore.

On another side note:
Anyone in Chicago, Wailers and the Breakfast are playing friday at the House of Blues, should be a great show.

Sodak6string 04-28-2006 02:10 PM

check out my band www.myspace.com/theeuprising
blues/reggae/classic rock/jamband

Jam2Me 05-03-2006 02:15 PM

Phil Lesh
Mike Gordon
Trey
The Duo

July 3rd for me. I literally double taked when I saw they were coming to Hartford.

I also got Dave and Mule the 29th of July and Allmans and Petty 12th of August. Pearl Jam and My Morning Jacket is coming this month...I'm gonna be flat broke at the end of summer.

robo2448 05-03-2006 03:16 PM

I'll probably be seeing Dickey Betts and the Great Southern 2 weeks from Friday. I'm assuming he puts on a good show, but has anyone seen him?

And The Breakfast are freaking awesome. A friend told me to check out some of their stuff on the archive and I'm very impressed. I hope they're coming to NY this summer. Did they used to be called the Psychedelic Breakfast?

KMidura 05-03-2006 08:03 PM

Yes they are awesome, and yes they were formerly the Psychedelic Breakfast. Other bands very similar to the Breakfast on Archive you should check out are RAQ, and the Greyspoke Variety show from 1-25-2006

On a side note, last I checked there's only two of us on this jamband mailing list. How one can say no to free music I don't know.

robo2448 05-04-2006 02:55 PM

I'll check them out. And I tried to get on the mailing list but wasn't really following the directions closely. But I'll get on it when I get the chance tomorrow.

KMidura 05-15-2006 12:18 PM

New Greyspoke Variety recording on archive, and it is by far the cleanest audio -wise and very clean playing as well. It also features two songs that have never been posted before, and a third where the only recording was iffy. I HIGHLY suggest giving it a listen. Only thing is that when it was posted, duplicates were made of every track, I've done an error report, and it should be cleaned up soon, but you can still grab all the songs no problem.

If you have an archive.org ID, and you do give this show a listen, please review it, the guys love compliments, but they like constructive criticism as well. All it takes is to write one sentence, thanks guys, and happy listening.

On a side note, if you want to subscribe to the jamband mailing list, all you have to do is email this address:

jambandmailinglist-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Sunday of next week I'm going to be posting an Allman Brothers Instant Live from (I believe 7/24) their show at SPAC this summer.

masada 05-21-2006 05:36 PM

I might see the Allman Brothers Band and the Derek Trucks band sometime this summer. May also go to Gabbafest in Macon, Georgia.

When I saw moe. live, they weren't that good. One of their guitarists wasn't there, so Warren Haynes had to fill in. Still, on one of the songs, the groove turned into this massive machine. It ruled.

robo2448 05-21-2006 07:24 PM

The Allman Brothers and the Derek Trucks Band are coming here four days after I leave:(. If they were only here a week earlier...

I'm going to check out Greyspoke Variety since you've mentioned them so many times.
