Muse are an awsome band, i love them. Ive not listend to there album in a while, i might in a while.

There due an new album i think too. Last was out in 03.

Spectrum 01-27-2005 10:08 AM

I got my guitarist friend Sam their "Absolution" disc for Christmas. I didn't realize how cool of a gift that was until I heard more of their songs.

/is listening to Stockholm Syndrome again

Yeah, since the last one was an '03, they should be putting one out sometime this year, you would think. Same with Coldplay and Radiohead - haven't put one out in a little while, and it is around the right time for it. I hear that Coldplay's new one will be out in not too long. They pitched four albums worth of material because they weren't satisfied with it. If you write around 40 songs and then get rid of them all because you don't think they're up to par, that says that the new album could just be fantastic. And I think someone on MX picked up a leak and said that they have an altered sound, but they like it. So I'm expectant.

And I just want to see where the Hell Radiohead will go with the next one.

/privately wishes he had a band capable of playing Muse and Radiohead

/not-so-privately wishes his band would practice once in a while

I think coldplay are overrated, there a good band and all but i cant see what all the hype around them all the time is all about. I dont realy like Radiohead either, i like about 2 songs ive heard.

EDIT, we can play Time is running out, the keyboard bit in the middle can be played on guitar, so my and my guitarest play it.

Spectrum 01-27-2005 10:22 AM

Radiohead's rather strange. However, their sound changes from album to album, which is where a lot of the interest is.

Coldplay gets a lot of buzz because they follow the path that made the Beatles successful - four British blokes with moderate instrumental talent who rely on their keen songwriting abilities. "Shiver" and "Spies" are probably my favorite Coldplay songs. "Shiver" is in 12/8 time, has very nifty chord progressions (owns the sheet music) and requires a lot more guitar talent than most of their songs. "Spies" is a powerhouse of a song, especially when the distorted high-tremolo picking bridge kicks in. They make use of often simple patterns and somehow make them attractive songs.

Ya know what? It's really hard to explain why I like them so much. I just do.

Oh well.

/laughs at self

I was just entertaining silly notions about recording efforts and combining talents with others, but they're just kinda silly. I get delusions of grandeur sometimes.

ninja stealth edit: Out of curiosity, do you know any pianist/keyboardists?

Untitled 01-27-2005 10:25 AM

I know a couple of people who can play who are self taught, and to say there self taught there very good. But noone extreamly brillient. Most people i know play guitar.

Spectrum 01-27-2005 10:27 AM

Figures. A lot of people these days are. And a lot of people these days play guitar instead. Why? 'Cause it's a lot more popular. Those trendy whores.

/hypocracy - goes into basement and plays guitar

well, my friend has a set. I go over there maybe once a week and jam out and what not. I finally got the bass pedal down as a separate entity (if you know what i mean). The great thing about that is it transistions so well to playing guitar with a wah

i think bass will be easy since i can finger pick with 4 fingers on guitar. Im not sure how my small fingers will do

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 01-27-2005 11:07 AM

Bass should be very easy if you can play guitar, the only trouble i caould see you having would be the weight of the strings

Untitled 01-27-2005 11:09 AM

The picking style between guitar and bass is different, guitar you use your nails and kinda pluck the strings up, bass you use the tips if your fingers and kinda pull the string up a little bit.

Twat_Out_Of_Hell 01-27-2005 11:14 AM

I used to pick all the time. But i thouhgt it looks worse and you can't play as fats and now i can't play at all with my fingers

Untitled 01-27-2005 11:16 AM

I try and play both styles, ive stop useing a plec for a while so i can build up finger strenght, but im better with e plec.

yea im sure the picking would be a bit to get used to. Im a pretty fast learner so i think i could prolly play TOoL in like 3 months

KKKKK! That's mean! You can't really choke yourself anyway without help, you don't have the strength bending your arms like that...

(Thinks about choking Butler on his behalf)

technically to break someones esophagus you only need 7lbs of pressure, i think thats a lil under 3.5kgs

Adam Jones is GOD 01-27-2005 12:29 PM

Update on Music store fire: 90% of the stock is wasted, and its close to £150 000 damage. Plus the rarest jeff Beck collection was destroyed.

Thing that makes me laugh is that they had no data backup method, so all their data has gone. Every last shred. And thye had over 100 instruments rented out.

I need plecs as well, stupid nature and its fire.

That's choking. I was talking about breaking the windpipe.

Bye

Spectrum 01-27-2005 02:02 PM

Meh, one simple post before I go to class.

I looked up Stockholm Syndrome. It's a f---ed up adaption method to a terrible situation. Basically, you are put into a really quite terrible spot (say, captured and tortured), but you are shown token acts of kindness. Strangely enough, this turns you to the side of the captors as if they were good.

Meh, maybe I'll look up the lyrics for "Stockholm Syndrome" and it will make more sense (the song, anyway).

Bye for now.

-Mike

Untitled 01-27-2005 02:05 PM

Stockholme syndrome - Feel some sort of positive emotion towards your captour, eg sorrow, love.

The song may not be directly be about it, i know Blink182's song with the same name isnt realy.
