Ricardo Villalobos - "Thé Au Harem D'Archimède"

This record will change how you think about house music. I.e., it will make you like it.

mr_jackalope 09-14-2006 10:49 AM

Just finished Akron/Family's new one Meek Warrior. It was pretty alright, got a little samey. But the first track destroys.

TojesDolan 09-14-2006 11:02 AM

We are scientists - With Love and Squalor

Very catchy. I like.

Happymeal 09-14-2006 12:33 PM

I started listening to Silver Jews' American Water yesterday and Tanglewood Numbers today.
AIDS Wolf - The Lovvers EP
Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesounds
Gay For Johnny Depp - Blood: The Natural Lubricant (An Apocalyptic Adventure Beyond Sodom And Gomorrah)
A-Frames - A-Frames
A-Frames - A-Frames 2
Slipknot - Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses (hahah)
Slint - Spiderland
Lesbians On Ecstacy - Lesbians On Ecstacy

and other assorted crap
Aids, Gays, Lesbians, Drugs and Slipknot. Does your mother know what unholy things you're doing?

Cursive - Domestica

So good. I really need the new album.

Zebra 09-14-2006 07:44 PM

Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante

I always regard this as their worst effort yet every time I listen to it I keep on realizing how much I love it.

Continuing my Television-"Venus" obsession:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqU4sn-JodE

Tom Verlaine tries to teach Richard Hell how to play the bassline to "Venus" (the second part of the video should be linked somewhere on that page as well). It's pretty funny because Hell is really wasted and I can see why they replaced him before recording Marquee Moon.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust

Little Man being Erased 09-15-2006 04:05 AM

Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds

Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway

Amazing. I don't think I've had this sort of reaction much after only listening to an abum once, but yeah, nacho you were right on the money. In places it reminded me a little bit of Ryan Adams (which can only be a good thing). It has a bit of a country feel sometimes and I dig that immensely.

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

It's ok. It has about as many great moments as it does really annoying ones, so it balances out. I can't see myself really getting into this album much.

And now I'm listening to Shout Out Louds - Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. It's pretty good stuff.

Kyle 09-15-2006 05:53 AM

I saw the Shout Out Louds supporting The Strokes, they were pretty dissapointing to be honest. I had liked a few of their songs beforehand, but it didn't translate well live.

David Berman is the best songwriter.

Sepstrup 09-15-2006 08:11 AM

I'm reviewing American Water. Tanglewood Numbers doesn't compare to it at all.

It sounds more like Neil Young than anything else to me. I agree with you about NMH btw.

If you give AW anything besides a 5 you're almost certainly wrong.

Today I've listened to:

R.E.M. - Murmur
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - The Letting Go

And I jammed some Lifter Puller, Jesus Lizard, and Shellac last night.

Neoteric 09-15-2006 04:20 PM

Been getting into some Smiths, New Order and such :)

Screeching Weasel - My Brain Hurts

Probably the greatest pop-punk album of all time. Each song is similar with its own unique hook.

Kyle 09-16-2006 09:40 AM

I'm listening to the Pixies for the first time in half a year, I forgot how good they were.

br3ad_man 09-16-2006 10:03 AM

Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One

So I guess I'm really late in checking this band out, but this record is making me amazed. I have to take it slowly, too much goodness to take in at once.

It's by far and away their best effort.

Oh gawd. Welcome to the revolution buddy.

I'm jamming British Sea Power's The Decline of British Sea Power right now and thinking these guys are just about the best goddamn thing ever. Or at least definitely one of the best modern true rock acts.

pixiesfanyo 09-16-2006 01:21 PM

The Mars Volta.

Storm In A Teacup 09-16-2006 01:26 PM

A mix of Youth Group, and The Early November.

mr_jackalope 09-16-2006 04:55 PM

I've been going through the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs for most of the afternoon.

Robert Crumb 09-16-2006 05:53 PM

I can't decide. I was listening to Yusef Lateef earlier, but now it's just like what. I think I'll play some Charles Mingus and cap it off with something nice and poppy.

BillCosby 09-16-2006 05:56 PM

Beulah - When Your Heartstrings Break
