i want a matamp 4x12. in their 8x10 enclosure. yessss.

FunkMetalBass 11-15-2010 03:26 PM

I wish 4x12s were as common for bassists as they are for guitarists. In fact, I wish 12's were as common for bass. Period.

gaslight 11-15-2010 03:31 PM

I love my 212.

Wouldn't say no a free Aguilar DB412. Wouldn't fork out the cash for one though either, not in my present situation, if money was no option, boom, for sure.

Spaceman Spiff 11-15-2010 07:36 PM

We've got another show coming up this Friday. Should be pretty fun. It's our first out of town gig... only slightly out of town, but out of town nonetheless!

Also, we're going to be recording an EP fairly soon. We're going to record it live, which I'm quite excited for.

BenJammin 11-15-2010 07:40 PM

I'm listening to your new album, Spiff. I haven't heard anything since some of your much older stuff.
I'm listening to your new album, Spiff. I haven't heard anything since some of your much older stuff.
Cool. I'd like to know what you think whenever you feel like giving me some sort of review or comments. I know you've never really been much of a fan of our music, but maybe this time? :D

BenJammin 11-15-2010 08:01 PM

I actually like this a lot more than your old stuff. White Light Raze is an awesome track. Also really like the title track. Better production, better female singer, etc. It's pretty clear you guys have come a long way. I bet you're a lot louder/more energetic live, eh?

Spaceman Spiff 11-15-2010 08:12 PM

You can check out a couple of live videos. We've been filming all our recent shows for our own records, but we've put up a couple of songs.

The Fields

I've Been Locked In A Box And Shot Into The Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTdUjdsmEfc

The second one is a new one that's going to be on the EP. We did all four songs that will be on the EP at that show, we're going to do them again on Friday at our next show. We're probably going to demo them this weekend or next, too. We're trying to be as ready as possible for it.

Also, not to be getting ahead of ourselves or anything, but a new album is in the works, too. It's still in the early stages of writing, but it's coming along pretty nicely.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. I'd appreciate a more detailed review/c&c if you're up to it.

BenJammin 11-15-2010 08:15 PM

I'll check those out, but I'm too lazy to write out anything more detailed, haha. It's good, though. After White Light Raze, it gets a lot better. First few songs are fairly forgettable, but the rest is quite solid. It's got a neat kind of lo-fi sound to it in spots... like it was intentional, and not just a byproduct of bad recordings, lol.

Spaceman Spiff 11-15-2010 08:20 PM

hahah, that's cool.

As with all of our stuff, it was recorded and mixed at home. We actually got it professionally mastered this time around, which I feel did a lot for the sound of the final product.

We're going to have some CDs pretty soon, too. We're not getting many made, but we put a lot of time and effort into all of this, so it's definitely worth it.
And we've made some money off selling it on the bandcamp page, which is pretty cool. We put it up as pay what you can, so it's nice to see that people actually like it enough to pay for it.

BenJammin 11-15-2010 08:25 PM

Yeah, bandcamp is pretty awesome like that. Don't care much for the new song, but the video of the Fields shows you guys are definitely together live, which is good. Your singer needs to move around more, though. She's in such a fortunate position by not being bogged down by an instrument most of the time (I did see a keyboard in front of her). My singer also plays guitar, and would kill to be able to rock out without a guitar around his neck (alas, it's just the 3 of us, so it'll have to do, haha).

Spaceman Spiff 11-15-2010 08:33 PM

We're starting to incorporate the synth into our shows. She's never been in a band or played shows or anything before we brought her into the band, so she's still pretty nervous and new to the whole thing. Her confidence and comfort seem to be going up very quickly, though. We've only played three shows with her so far, but we have three more lined up and we're constantly looking for and booking more, so we're only getting better and tighter.

BenJammin 11-15-2010 08:43 PM

Nice. Well, then all the best to you, man. I definitely didn't like your old stuff, but the new album shows clear progress. :thumb:

Spaceman Spiff 11-15-2010 08:49 PM

Thanks, Ben. It's always nice to hear that we've been able to get people liking our music who didn't before.

We'll probably put up some more live videos soon, so I'll post those if/when we do that. And we'll be releasing that new EP probably in about two months, so I'll make sure to keep this place up to date with our goings-on.

So, are you into Sun Kil Moon?

FunkMetalBass 11-16-2010 10:22 AM

I is doubling my netbook memory. Eff yeah!

FlamingCouch 11-16-2010 12:01 PM

What is this crazy netbook of which you speak?

FunkMetalBass 11-16-2010 02:06 PM

It's my Eee PC 1005 (the mini laptops, yo!)

http://www.softsailor.com/news/5150-asus-eee-pc-1005ha-available-for-pre-order-at-amazon-for-349-99.html

They only came with 1GB of RAM, but I've found a compatible 2GB 800Hz memory stick that I'll be replacing it with. Goodbye lag!

BenJammin 11-16-2010 02:19 PM

I hate netbooks.

FunkMetalBass 11-16-2010 02:35 PM

I use it for surfing the web, and taking notes in class/typing papers. I use my desktop for anything major.

Instead of spending $1000 on a laptop, I can build a desktop that is much more powerful and get a netbook that is much more portable.

FunkMetalBass 11-17-2010 09:28 AM

Next semester didn't pan out the way I wanted it to, but I guess I can't complain because I'll still be full-time and all of these classes apply to my majors.

8:20 - 10:30 | Mathematical Models for Physics
12:00 - 1:15 | Introduction to Modern Physics
1:30 - 2:45 | Introduction to Graph Theory
3:00 - 4:15 | Introduction to Global Health (ewww....stupid gen-ed requirements)

funkyhoney 11-17-2010 10:17 PM

Sounds boring as shit dude.

I suppose it beats working two jobs like I am at the moment. Although both of my jobs have the potential to meet chicks.

 double ouch

I'm actually pretty excited for Graph Theory and Modern Physics. There are a few pieces of eye candy that are taking classes with me next semester. If I didn't have a girlfriend... :naughty:

Convectuoso 11-17-2010 11:09 PM

Btw Joe, I got that song, but the mix was pretty poor and I couldn't really make out the bass that well.

Like everything just sounded a bit weird and muffled. Not your fault though.

Yeah, I ended up listening to it through my surround sound and I wasn't impressed. Apparently the label has put mixing is on-hold until the guitarist/lead singer gets off his ass and transcribes his songs for copyrighting. That would explain the partial mix quality.

For the sake of decent recordings, let's hope that they come out better than Particle Man's. If not, at least this was just a session gig for me and I still got paid.
... Really?
Yeah, dude. Believe it or not, hot European chicks love math and physics. There are always a few in my classes.

Pfft, I'm European and I have nothing more than a passing interest in advanced mathematics. Evidentally hot chicks fullstop love puppies and coffee.

gaslight 11-17-2010 11:29 PM

Shit, you have to transcribe your song in America before they'll copyright it?

I love smart girls. Dumb girls I can't stand.

funkyhoney 11-17-2010 11:38 PM

I'm with you on that one brah. However there's a fine line between "smart" and "unbearably smart" in my books. I couldn't stand to be with someone who was all about maths and shit. :p

There's one girl who comes through my (second) work twice a day and obviously questioned about me and then FB stalked me yesterday. We've been chatting, she works for a publishing company and likes art, reading, etc. I like I like.

Australian is to European as New York is to Italy.

In any case, mathematicians are surprisingly normal. It's the crazy theoretical physicists you have to look out for.
Shit, you have to transcribe your song in America before they'll copyright it?

There are a few different copyrights. Specifically, you can copyright the recordings and/or you can copyright the composition. His label wants to do both.

The recording copyright is the weird one because you can claim that you wrote the song and lyrics, but it's separate from the composition copyright.

I too like smart girls, but the ones with whom I can have an intelligent conversation one minute, and pound shots at a bar the next. The occasional nerdiness is cute too.

fatbandit 11-18-2010 11:29 AM

Bullshit. Unless the laws are different in America, you have intellectual copyright of any recordings the minute you record them. I'd have to assume they're fairly international laws.
