Hey Wintermute..... I noticed you are in school to be a sound engineer. What classes would be good to take, highschool wise, to prepare for that? I have, oddly enough, been wanting to be a sound/recording engineer since this summer, and it seems to be a fun job, with a lot of freedom. |
Well that depends where you do it. If your school/college does Music Technology, that might be a handy one, and some courses want some formal Music qualification. However the best place in the UK for it is Glamorgan (where I am) and here you just need Maths. (It's an Engineering subject, there are calculations)
I've barely started, we've not done any serious work just yet. My first lecture in Synthetic and Computer Audio Engineering is tomorrow - I'll keep you posted as to what kind of thing the course entails. |
Hey Winter, what up.

I have one of the best engineering schools in the US very near, but I'm not sure whether they have a sound/recording engineer degree.... Research time. Again, I can't thank you enough, Wintermute. |
US? Somehow I thought you were in the UK. *shrugs*
The course I'm on seems to be a mix of Electrical Engineering and its applications with Sound Engineering. I've got a weekly three and a half hour session in a full professional standard digital/analogue recording studio, which I'm looking forward to! Physics was on the list of things they'd appreciate but don't demand. Both for understanding of sound and of electronics. |
The school is on the list of top ten schools in Electrical Engineering, so that is a good sign! I like physics, or the meager amount that I know, more than most math, another good sign, although I don't know much in that area.
I wonder if they would let you record in the studio? That would make me immensly happy if they did, even if it wasn't me. Probably more so if it was someone else, and I just watched.... |
So.... im thinking of joining teh military.... not sure what branch to join. Well i dont wanna join the army, thats for sure.
|
Go down to the recruitment office they'll give you a ****load of panflets for each branch.
|
I'm sure they will - There's no point just having a studio if you don't record things in it. I know Uni bands do use it, for their own recordings and for practice for apprentice Sound Engineers! I'm sure knowing the lecturers and things running it will just make it easier to get access.
|
Hmm...anyone know how good of a school Full Sail is? I've heard a bunch from them but don't know how hard it is to get and and such and such...anyone know?
If not.....cheese.... :thumb: |

they marines will take anyone. you could get you piolates license in 6 months and go to the air force. navy sucks your stuck on a boat or a sub for 6+ months your fatass wont make it through the special forces training. so id say go in as a cook or give hair cuts. |

I figured you'd be looking at it :p I am really concerned with how hard it is to get in and what the requirements are. I don't think Berklee would let me in a 10 mile radius of it. |

Me neither. I have a feeling Full Sail is easier to get into. I'm in-state for Purdue, so who knows...... |
