Well I would give the best melodic death metal band EVER to Opeth, but Amon Amarth is way up there among the best. Their new album "Fate of the Norns" is amazing. I also practice asatru.

i always considered Opeth as overrated. i was just never a fan. that's why i say that Amon Amarth are the best. but hey, to each their own. havent heard the new album yet, ill prob d/l it tonight. i missed em when they played in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico.

Thats cool if your not into Opeth, they are an aquired taste for most. I love them though.

Anyways, If I ever got to go to a Amon Amarth concert, I would probably piss my pants in joy.

They suck because I've heard just about every recommended song by a bunch of their fans and didn't like one. They're all boring. The slow ones are like elevator music. The metal ones are dull. I don't get it. And for some reason people call them prog metal or expiremental death metal or all this nonsense when all they do is write a slow song or two. Lame.

What songs have you heard?

Listen to "Deliverance" for heavy, and "Harvest" for a slow one. Both are very good.

I like them because they blend both heavy and soft elements together to make a beautiful song. Also, you just don't put Opeth on to kind of listen to while driveing to work, you put Opeth on to [I]listen[/I] to them.

But hey, It's ok if you don't like them.

I've heard both of those songs and they're both boring. Every person who suggested a song said one of two things, either, "Hey, Opeth is really good background music, not really good to focus on," or, "You really have to listen and pay attention to the music." I did both. It was still unbelievably boring and predictable. Like Dream Theater-predictable. Ugh.

I thought they sucked for about a year, then I downloaded "Bleak" and liked them. The clean singing is great, and the instrumentals are... stimulating. The best word, albeit not the first the comes to mind.

Amon Amarth is great. I like "Down the Slopes of Death". I don't usually like power/death/viking metal stuff, but they do metal like KFC does chicken. They do metal right.

yea, but hey, what better way to hear new music than to see the band live? so for some songs and 1 band ye wont be able to get too into the music, but ye can still enjoy it. and you dont get a good metal show like that for $25 too often
