They have nice employees, really friendly and helpfull. It's rare that you'll get one who's an ass. Ha, a while ago I was going to pick up some drums and I didn't want to talk to this guy that they had, his name was Robert, he was really...mean. So I would call Guitar center and if the Robert guy answered I would just slam down the phone.
The fact that everyone wants a job there.
Not where I live. Im like the only kid in my school who plays the guitar. The rest are guidos and wanna be gangsta's.

I'm just guessing here, but there's a good chance that there are musicians outside of your school too.

Well good luck to ya I have always had hard time getting a job in a guitar store up until recently.

kurrpt 03-09-2006 02:38 PM

i find their employees extremely biased, and rarely helpful. I find the majority of them as cliquey jerks who think they are "better in life" because they work at guitar center.

Im a friendly chap by trade. I refuse to give the unpleasant jerks my commission. Easy enough

Shadows 03-09-2006 02:41 PM

The guys at my local Guitar Center are all really nice. They're helpful and don't try to push crap on me. I'd like to get a job there sometime in the future.

Ok, thats not helping me. I know that, but Im trying to keep my hopes high.

Thanks for shooting my dreams down ben.

Same here. I will not buy a guitar from a store like the one I was talking about earlier.

This store I go to, isnt a guitar center, but we know a guy there who is realy nice. He always greets us and we do the same. Its realy cool.

Cain 03-09-2006 03:42 PM

Hmmm, now this is interesting.

I just bought Nevermore's "Dreaming Neon Black" and I am actually enjoying it much more than many of the other Nevermore albums I own, despite the fact that it more or less lacks a lot of what I enjoy so much about "Enemies of Reality" and "This Godless Endeavor." While those albums are almost totally given over to frantic instrumentals and death-style drums and a universally non-subtle, punishing approach, "Dreaming Neon Black" trades a lot of brutality for awesome thrash goodness. The solos are also mixed a LOT better and are WAY less wanky.

Moral: Jeff Loomis shouldn't be writing these things all by himself. Am I right in understanding that all the guitars on Godless Endeavor were recorded just with him, or is that Enemies?

Oh yeah, and the vocalist is MUCH MUCH BETTER on this album.

Moses 03-09-2006 03:45 PM

I listen to DNB and TGE for two different reasons. And Jeff Loomis recorded EOR by himself but I don't think he did TGE by himself though since Smyth wrote some of the songs and solos.

Thor 03-09-2006 03:49 PM

Ozzfest's lineup just made me bummed out. :(

Oh well, I'm still going to see the Unholy Alliance tour this summer which will be incredibly awesome.

But still, it's sad to see what was once a good tour suck.

Stormrider 03-09-2006 03:49 PM

Hmm Dreaming Neon Black is an album I've been wanting a lot recently.

This may seem silly but, when you rate an album on Sputnikmusic, you only choose between, Awful, poor, excellent, great ect. But how do you know what those ratings stand for out of 5 ?

Shadows 03-09-2006 03:51 PM

Sputnik ratings are like this:

Awful - 1
Very Poor - 1.5
Poor - 2
Average - 2.5
Good - 3
Very Good - 3.5
Excellent - 4
Superb - 4.5
Classic - 5

It goes in order from 1-10, top to bottom.

The avid fanboyism of Nevermore around these forums killed my love of them.

Permanent Solution 03-09-2006 03:54 PM
Guitar center would be awesome to work at. There prices aren't that high, like guitar and bass wise. The drums is where the rip you off. They only seel the shell kit and you have to buy the cymbals and hardware. It's a smart move but, if you want good cymbals and good hardware it will raise your bill by at least $400.
Um, that's not ripping you off, that's how any drum place is. Drums, hardware and cymbals are always separate except with the super cheap beginner sets. That's like saying you want an amp and guitar and such in one package, they have those, but they suck. Better to buy individually.

I applied for a job at GC, I'm going into see them over break. They offered me a job there in December, so I'm hoping...

Stormrider 03-09-2006 03:54 PM

Thanks Ben.

Hmm, I want to rate this one album as classic, but, do users rarely rate albums that high ?

Shadows 03-09-2006 03:57 PM

Yeah, don't worry about handing out 5's. People around sputnik often (probably too often) give albums the highest rating. I try to be a little careful with how I rate them, so out of my hundreds of rated albums, I only have 5 or 6 rated that high. I've seen people with a list of dozens of classic rated albums, so if there's an album you really love, go for it. :)

Jev 03-09-2006 03:59 PM

I have to write a Minimalism piece for a brass quartet. I'm calling it Aural Torture.
The avid fanboyism of Nevermore around these forums killed my love of them.
Man, I will always be perplexed by this tendency of some people. If fans are annoying it means that they suck, not that the band sucks. I don't get why some people will profess that they don't enjoy something just because a lot of people are getting into them too and maybe acting a little naïve about it.

I'm not taking a shot at you, Ben, just commenting.

Oh ok, thanks... Night of the Stormrider is definitely getting it then :)

EDIT: I think i rated too much abums right now....:( Seeing only my username in the recently rated albums column doesn't look right.

I can't really explain it, but it's definitely not because I'm trying to be tr00 and avoid popular bands. I find that an overbearing rage about a band is off-putting and makes me resentful towards them. I wish I could say exactly why. :(

Stormrider 03-09-2006 04:20 PM

Me = Fanboy of IE. I don't know if I'm anoying about it though, I'de have to ask other people here :p

The genres in my profile after rating albums is somewhat misleading.

Shred Danson 03-09-2006 04:22 PM

Really, I didn't know you liked Iced Earth :p

Stormrider 03-09-2006 04:24 PM

Haha :p

The question is am I anoying about it ? I don't think I am but I can somewhat go overboard at times.

Shadows 03-09-2006 04:25 PM

Not at all, I never heard you talk about them. I can only tell because of you username/avatar.

I hope I'm not annoying the bands I love. :(

Stormrider 03-09-2006 04:29 PM

Hmm. Go in the IE thread a little more and you'll see what I mean by overboard. :p

I have over 400 posts in that thread out of 1250.

But I try to not talk about them outside that thread though.

Dream Theater
Cannibal corpse
Cradle of filth

I whore Dragonforce, Megadeth, Blind Guardian, the smiths and suchlike a bit, but those 5 are the most (Top 5 favourite bands, see?)
