Portishead - Dummy

I haven't heard this album since sophomore year, when my CD was stolen from me at school. I finally downloaded it again, and I know I'm going to fall in love with it all over again.

Kayetan 09-11-2006 07:43 PM

Lake. They're a band which doesn't suck.

Zappa 09-11-2006 07:55 PM

I was just sent Edan's Beauty and the Beat, and it's pretty good. Kind of like a modernized De La Soul? You guys probably all listen to him already.

Robert Crumb 09-11-2006 07:58 PM

He does some pretty neat stuff. I like it too.

Currently listening to Television Personalities' Privilege. I was watching a documentary on the band the other day. Dan Treacy's arms are awful looking things. Don't do drugs kids.

Daft Punk - Discovery

totally forgot how awesome this is.

ATM 09-11-2006 09:08 PM

mr_jackalope 09-11-2006 09:23 PM
What?

I was joking, jackalope. :(
I take my no wave seriously bub.

Record review day:

Emily Haines - Knives Don't Have Your Back (pretty awesome)
Black Keys - Magic Potion (a step down from their last)
M. Ward - Post-War (lovely)
The Diminisher - Imaginary Volcano (decent enough)
REM - Best of the IRS Years (knew every song; the bonus disc is pretty interesting)

I 'spect I got 2 or 3 more in me tonight.

asymm 09-11-2006 10:16 PM

shit. 9 Albums arrived for me today. Lots of good new releases come out tomorrow.

Glitterati 09-11-2006 10:26 PM

Joni Mitchell - Dreamland

pixiesfanyo 09-11-2006 10:47 PM
Aaliyah - "Are You That Somebody?"

I remember this song, it's so good. It would be two times better without the weird baby noise every five seconds.
Dude. **** you seriously.

pixiesfanyo 09-11-2006 10:59 PM

that sound owns so much.

perriwinkle 09-11-2006 10:59 PM

Porcupine tree is just simply put - awesome.

moosepirate 09-12-2006 02:04 PM

The Primitives- Lovely
Gigolo Aunts- Flippin' Out

I watched Dumb and Dumber a few nights ago, and decided to look at some artists from the soundtrack.

Eliminator 09-12-2006 02:30 PM

Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow

I basically listened to it all day at school, even though it starts to lose it's appeal once you figure out all the songs.
Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow

what do you mean figure out?

Eliminator 09-12-2006 02:41 PM

How the songs are structured, rhythms, etc.

Makes it a little less exciting. I guess that means I'll just listen to Hypermagic Mountain more now.

Zappa 09-12-2006 02:59 PM

I had the CD single of that one.

Glitterati 09-12-2006 03:22 PM

The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Good Son

el doctor 09-12-2006 03:31 PM

Comets on Fire - Avatar

So good. It was a little startling at first how much they cleaned up their sound, but it works and keeps things fresh.

Zebra 09-12-2006 05:25 PM

R.E.M. - Automatic For the People

This is my favorite 90's R.E.M. album. Every track is awesome, even the short instrumental.

Zappa 09-12-2006 06:36 PM

Okay, so whenever I said anything bad about The Ascension by Glenn Branca, I was trippin'.

I'm pretty sure this is better than symphony number one.

JonM 09-12-2006 07:16 PM
Okay, so whenever I said anything bad about The Ascension by Glenn Branca, I was trippin'.

In other news, Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothin' to fuck wit'.

Zmev 09-12-2006 07:42 PM

Yo La Tengo - I am not blah blah blah long pretentious title

This is pretty awesome

Zmev 09-12-2006 08:03 PM

The trombone on "black flowers" owns

Robert Crumb 09-12-2006 08:13 PM
*long, completely awesome title (I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass)

it's their second-best album. Great stuff. I saw them play half of it live before I had heard the album, and I wish it had been the other way around so I could have appreciated the songs more.
Probably third or fourth for me, but very awesome either way. Impressive versatility.

I was going to buy a proper copy today, but ended up finding some neat stuff in the used section. Got John Cale's Island Years compilation for $8 as well as my first Thelonius Monk album, Monk's Blues for $4. Also picked up TVotR because it was only $8, too. Total cost was $0, because I hocked off some free promos that were gathering dust in the quarantine pile on my desk. I'll pick up the Yo La Tengo and Lupe Fiasco next week. Hooray!

Robert Crumb 09-12-2006 08:22 PM

Upload?

Dog 09-12-2006 08:24 PM

mmhm the Scruffs are good.

The Drones - Gala Mill
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

Little Man being Erased 09-12-2006 09:07 PM

Hey Tangy, sup?

What's Gala Mill like? Worth me checking out?

perriwinkle 09-12-2006 09:10 PM

Thomas and the Evil Computer

Tangy zizzle 09-12-2006 09:10 PM

Hey man, hows things?

Gala Mill is pretty damm cool. It's the record which cements the "Drones-sound". It's really sparse and a lot quieter than anything else they've done, but it has some of the best imagery I've ever, ever heard. It's brutal as fuck, check it out.

perriwinkle 09-12-2006 09:13 PM

i think sometimes it gives music relisten value when its complex enough that it takes many listens to understand what it is youre hearing. like if i finally figure out what time signature a certain song is then its really cool to me to count it out while im listening to it

ATM 09-12-2006 09:13 PM

Hey Tangy you will appreciate this, I'm going to a Drones show.

Tangy zizzle 09-12-2006 09:15 PM

I don't appreciate that at all. Rub it in my face, smartass.

perriwinkle 09-12-2006 09:17 PM
