i just really listen to the main bands now in death and black metal particularly - right now im more interested in new stuff from other genres and just any big albums in death and black metal that i haven't got yet. i don't feel the need to have a wide knowledge of black metal

well thats because having a wide knowledge in black metal means listening to sh!tty obscure bands that no one else listens to (for a reason)

eh, the big names are good, but there tend to be unique more obscure bands in either genre

I pretty much only check out an obscure black metal album these days if there is a general consensus that there is something good about it. Like the Orrery album, checked it out and liked it a lot but never would have gone through the Australian BM scene to end up finding them.
