HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN

Little Man being Erased 09-08-2006 08:05 AM

De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Damn the Torpedoes
Jorge Ben - África Brasil
Nas - Illmatic
Jay Z - The Black Album
Genius/GZA - Liquid Swords

África Brasil is great stuff.

The Black Album is below par. The production doesn't hit the spot. Dangermouse's Grey Album is better if you ask me.

Liquid Swords is excellent. Doubly excellent.

Not sure about 3 Feet High and Rising yet.

The other two are awesome.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 09-08-2006 08:46 AM

Slint - Spiderland
Justin Timberlake - Futuresex/Lovesounds (hahah this is great. really, it is. i was wanting a Prince-esque thing, and it is. very retro.)
Merzbow - Merzbuddha
Wolf & Cub - Vessels
Freescha - Head Warlock Double Stare

Sepstrup 09-08-2006 08:49 AM

Charles Mingus - Black Saint & the Sinner Lady

pixiesfanyo 09-08-2006 09:43 AM

Ghostface Killah - Fishscale

JonM 09-08-2006 10:26 AM
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Yeah I rocked that record yesterday. I'm taking this course called "From Be-Bob To Hip-Hop: Evolution Of A Music," and the Wu-Tang Manual is one of the textbooks, so I've been way into that.

That's awesome.

That book is hilarious.

JonM 09-08-2006 02:20 PM
That book is hilarious.
It really is. That's the best thing about Wu, really. That they manage to be absolutely hilarious and utterly serious simultaneously.

Dies Irae 09-08-2006 02:21 PM

wait, you're not going? Wow.

asymm 09-08-2006 03:34 PM

Outkast - Aquemini
and
I just finished watching season three of The Wire. It was unbelievable. I can't wait to see season four since I have free HBO for a few months...

Zmev 09-08-2006 05:39 PM

I downloaded season 1 of that show.

Bartender 09-08-2006 06:36 PM

Nas - Illmatic
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader

I still can't like Enter the Wu-Tang very much. The other two are grand, though.

Robert Crumb 09-08-2006 06:49 PM

I've never seen the Wire but I've heard good things. HBO is pretty much the best. Wish I had it.

Digging Television Personalities - My Dark Places. I think I want too much to like this album.

Robert Crumb 09-08-2006 07:18 PM

Switched it out, got bored. That's too bad. Playing the Of Montreal leak now. This, on the other hand... opening track is kinda holy shit good.

Dog 09-08-2006 07:39 PM

past couple of days-

Lambchop - How I Quit Smoking
Neil Young - Comes A Time
Arto Lindsay - Noon Chill
Defiance, Ohio - Great Depression
David Bowie - The Rise And Fall...

that fucking sucks, man. if i lived anywhere close to chicago and missed that show i would kick my ass.

Happymeal 09-08-2006 08:09 PM

Grizzly Bear - Yellow House

I'm wondering why Pitchfork has such a big boner for it. Halfway through it I got really bored, though I thought "Lullabye" was a terrific song. Maybe it's a grower.

mr_jackalope 09-08-2006 08:49 PM

I listened to lots of Big Black and Hold Steady today.

Happymeal, I like Yellow House, but still agree mostly with what you said. It does grow on you, but it didn't deserve the rating it got. I think they just wanted a new Featured New Music up and threw that on because it's decent.

br3ad_man 09-08-2006 08:53 PM

Norma Jean - Redeemer

This is pretty sweet.

Aeaon 09-08-2006 10:34 PM

Right now i'm really digging some good ol' beach boys. and some leadbelly.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 09-08-2006 11:44 PM

Merzbow - Merzbeat
Frank Sinatra - Come Swing With Me
The Delfonics - Definitive Collection
Meshuggah - Catch 33

mr_jackalope 09-09-2006 12:08 AM

It's His Name is Alive time woooooooo.

Scuba_Steve 09-09-2006 12:16 AM

I'm reverting back into a blues/classic rock phase I think. I spent the past couple of days listening to...

Taste
Fleetwood Mac (older stuff)
Rory Gallagher
Ten Years After
Allman Bros.

Yup.

Little Man being Erased 09-09-2006 03:00 AM

Spoon - Girls Can Tell
Andrew Bird - Andrew Bird & the Mysterious Production of Eggs

Wow, Girls Can Tell is really fucking awesome.

sketchyjoe 09-09-2006 06:31 AM
yeah so guys, don't listen to the Lightning Seeds album I posted. Brutally, painfully overproduced. Oh man this is hard on the ears, it's so produced.
I really hate over-production. I can listen to a bad quality bootleg of a punk show from 1983 but I can't listen to over-produced stuff.

I'm digging lots of the Vindictives. Excellent punk rock for fans of Screeching Weasel and Apocalypse Hoboken.

Sepstrup 09-09-2006 06:51 AM

It's Dylan-day today.

Before: The Times They Are a-Changing
Now: Another Side of Bob Dylan
Soon: Blonde on Blonde

Kayetan 09-09-2006 06:57 AM

Karl Blau- It Was Hot We Stayed in the Water

Dog 09-09-2006 11:36 AM

^that's a Microphones release.

good album. i'm gonna give it a listen right now.

pixiesfanyo 09-09-2006 11:37 AM

TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

mr_jackalope 09-09-2006 11:53 AM

I scored a somewhat rare Mekons album (I Heart Mekons) at the only record store around here the other day. I think I'm gonna go back and get the Lifter Puller compilation, now that I've seen how much their stuff goes for on eBay.
