hahahah. I knew all that talk about the Melvins, Fugazi and old-school punk was a clever facade!

I mean I dig where you're coming from though... I don't know if you ever checked out my band's youtube vids but watching those I think it's clear to see our biggest influences were Madonna and T-Pain - which we definitely tried to bring out onstage.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2010 02:23 PM

We've been going for a kind of Metric meets OK Go sort of sound...

Do you actually have any videos or music from bands you play/have played in? I'd like to check it out.

FlamingCouch 10-25-2010 02:34 PM

you never saw?

hit up youtube, type in White Star Parachute and voila. That was the most recent group, dissolved this fall when Simon and Rhett (bass player, keyboard player) went to college. I think there's only the Julyfest show up there, but I could be wrong. Everything except the Fugazi cover is original material that I wrote. I blew out my voice pretty quickly but all in all I'm happy with that show. Jordan, the drummer, had only played with us twice before playing the show as our regular man couldn't make it.

Also lawl at Metric meets OK Go.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2010 02:55 PM

Sweet. I'll definitely check them out a little later when I have some time.

Did you get a chance to check out the video I posted?

Also, mastering will be finished tomorrow. We should have the album up online in a couple of days.

FlamingCouch 10-25-2010 02:57 PM

Not yet, I haven't been on an unrestricted computer with sound to get to it. When I bring my laptop to a friend's place or Safeway one of these days I'll have a look for sure.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2010 03:17 PM

Alright, let me know what you think when you get a chance to check it out.

I just found out I'm getting my shift changed at work starting next week. No more working until midnight every night!

fatbandit 10-25-2010 04:38 PM

Just been to see Melt Banana. Proper good show :)

That shit would be crazy. What were they like live?

fatbandit 10-25-2010 04:53 PM

Loud :) And the singer is adorable when she tries to say things in English. All Japanese people are though :p The drummer they were playing with is amazing too.

Sablate McNuff 10-25-2010 05:45 PM

Hell yeah, pickup template should be here tomorrow. Then on Friday, I order the quad-coil and get the first round of paint done. Sweet.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2010 08:50 PM

I need to find a record player somewhere. I've been waiting for too long to listen to The Fragile on vinyl.

And then I need to learn how to use a record player.

They're not difficult to use. I have one. Many new ones have a 'start/stop' button, so you don't even have to drop the needle yourself.

Also: you have The Fragile on vinyl? You asshole.

I know, right? :D

I've had it for about 10 years and have never had the privilege of listening to it. Isn't that sad?

By the way, swear filter is gone. You can just type your curses without having to bypass any filter. Asshole. :)

Cept for ******

burtonbassist_102 10-26-2010 02:05 AM

Have any of you heard about this bass?

http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/reflex-bass-5.html

I don't know what I'd even do with all of that.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2010 08:54 AM

Play everything.

Truth be told, half of it would be completely worthless to me as I'm not a big neck pickup fan, but I like that MusicMan is leading the way for 3-pickup basses.

That's a sweet control scheme, and I think I need to ditch my OBP-3's for some Knoll 4-band EQs.

Spaceman Spiff 10-26-2010 08:56 AM

Reminds me of how much I want a solid white guitar.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2010 09:05 AM

Reminds me of how badly I want to get good at preamp design.

I'm working on my first PCB design right now, so that's sweet.

daaaaamn i wish i owned that. so much experimenting to be done with tone. could learn a lot from a bass like that.

Spaceman Spiff 10-26-2010 09:09 AM

My guitars are so simple.

Both have a neck and bridge pickup and a three-way pickup selector, both have a volume knob, only one of them has a tone knob.

I love simplicity.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2010 09:15 AM

I love options. Like, really.

Spaceman Spiff 10-26-2010 09:23 AM

For some reason I liked having all kinds of tone control with bass, but I prefer less with guitar. My bass has a three-band EQ and pickup selector. I ain't gots no explanation fer ya.

Spaceman Spiff 10-26-2010 10:34 AM

Woo!

Mastering is done. We just need to finish up the art and booklet design, which won't take more than a day or two. Then we're going to have our CDs in about a week and a half from now. This is exciting.

FlamingCouch 10-26-2010 11:52 AM

Gentlemen.

Our shop's mechanic and I were working on my truck last night and long story short, we forgot to put oil in (THE ONLY IMPORTANT PART!) and seized the engine.

So I need to sell some gear.

The question is do I sell my 300 watt TubeWorks bass amp or my Ampeg B115.

And... go!

(PS good to hear the album's coming along great, Zack. I'm excited to see how it looks!)

Convectuoso 10-26-2010 12:24 PM

Dude that sucks huge gonads. Are they not insured for that kind of thing?

FlamingCouch 10-26-2010 12:37 PM

Nah. It was just me and him working after hours on my personal truck, so I'm fucked that way. But really it's no big deal, like I told my buddy "Nobody got hurt, and the truck can be fixed. It's just a pickup man."

He literally started crying when we realized what we'd done... he's been pulling wrenches for like 16 or more years so he felt pretty friggin' bad. Both he and our shop's foreman said they wished to Christ it would've happened on a company truck instead, and I laughed. That'd probly cost Terry for sure... so I dunno. It sucks, but whatever. We'll fix it, y'know?

The only bitch is having to come up with the cash. I'll ask my Dad if he can help out, but I'm sure he'll be very very pissed at my blatantly obvious stupidity and at least if I sell some instruments straight-away I can promise him some of the money back immediately.

FlamingCouch 10-26-2010 12:45 PM

Forgot to mention I found a good used engine that'll fit in with less mileage on it than mine... and it's only an hour away in the next town over. So that's not too bad a scenario. So far I'm just crossing my fingers.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2010 02:08 PM

Is the B115 a combo? If so, sell the head to me.

FlamingCouch 10-26-2010 02:41 PM

nah, it's just a B115 amp.

I don't suppose you know anything about TubeWorks stuff? I'm guessing the company ceased operations a long time ago or something.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2010 02:46 PM

TubeWorks was associated with Genz Benz - either as a buyout, name change, or a subsidiary company.
