Jaundice 02-17-2010 09:05 PM

k **** it what are like the most essential neofolk albums?

Ventriloquist 02-17-2010 09:29 PM

Current 93 - Thunder Perfect Mind
Rome - Discography
Death in June & Boyd Rice - Scorpion Wind
Death in June - But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?
Tenhi - Kauan

I'm sure people will add a lot more. But the obvious ones are these I guess.

masscows 02-17-2010 09:30 PM

Yeah

Fire+Ice - Birdking is pretty amazing too

Moon Flavor 02-18-2010 01:46 PM

Doobstap recondashins

Yo diggles my homedog posted dis dubstep **** on facebook:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1acPYhOpUoU

And I quite dig it... considering the only dubstep I'd heard before was that Burial album tbh I thought it sucked well it didn't suck but it just wasn't for me.

So guys, recommend me some dubstep with like the coolest beats and the biggest wobbliest bass possible.

Also, moderator Wish, please don't post a list of 5,000 artists. I just want a few recommendations to start me off.

Txus 02-18-2010 01:54 PM

Thank you do all of those have extreme wobble?

Txus 02-18-2010 06:15 PM

That Silkie album is so goooood

Ventriloquist 02-18-2010 06:18 PM
Thank you do all of those have extreme wobble?
Pulshar doesn't have any wobbling. They sound a bit like Burial. Silkie has mad wobbles.

Moon Flavor 02-18-2010 06:19 PM

Alright I'm looking forward to Silkie then. I'll get the rest too though

Ventriloquist 02-18-2010 06:26 PM

If you are into wobbles check Rusko - Babylon Volume 1. I don't like him a lot but maybe you'll like.

Moon Flavor 02-18-2010 06:27 PM

Well idk I like the wobbles I guess but I'd never heard dubstep until today so idk. I'll probably get sick of wobbles to some extent. But I'll check it
k **** it what are like the most essential neofolk albums?
RouteOne 02-19-2010 02:38 PM
k **** it what are like the most essential neofolk albums?
Darkwood: Notwendfeuer

In Gowan Ring: Hazel Steps through a weathered home

(some people will argue that IGR aren't "traditional neo-folk" but who cares)

Andrew King: The bitter harvest

Colt of Youth: A Stick to Bind, A Seed to Grow

Die Weisse Rose: A martyrium of white roses

Espers: Espers

Forseti: Windzeit

Leger Des Heils: Memoria

Jännerwein: Abendläuten

Les Joyaux De La Princesse: Absinthe Taetra

Nebelung: Vigil

Of the wand and the moon: Sonnenheim

Pamela Wyn Shannon: Courting Autumn

Sol Invictus: Sol Veritas Lux

Sonne Hagal: Helfahrt

Strength through joy: The force of truth and lies

Sturmpercht: Stürm Ins Leben Wild Hinein!

If you want some controversial stuff:

Frank Rennicke: Deutsche Freiheitslieder 1848.

He's a bit of a hard-line nationalist that spent 17 months in jail for some controversial lyrics. The album recounts the German revolution. Regardless of his views, he makes some pretty good folk/acoustic music.

Jaundice 02-19-2010 11:35 PM

cool, i'll try to give all these a shot

Morumbar 02-21-2010 10:29 AM

So I feel like I should get into Bolt Thrower. Where should I start?

Ventriloquist 02-21-2010 10:40 AM

Anywhere would be fine, my fav is Those Once Loyal.

Morumbar 02-21-2010 10:43 AM

Will check that one out.

Thanks man.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 11:49 AM

I think Realm of Chaos is a solid introduction, it's full of riff.

masscows 02-21-2010 11:50 AM

realm of chaos, war master, the ivth crusade, for victory, and those once loyal are all DM of the highest caliber

DBlitz 02-21-2010 04:31 PM

realm of chaos and those once loyal

get more if you like those

arlowf 02-21-2010 04:35 PM

Meh, going through the slump

I have a billion bands in my collection, and I like all genres, but I'm hoping for some "hard ****" (i refuse to try to specify a genre because that leads to a pissing match). Anyway, stuff like:

Dance Gavin Dance
Devil Wears Prada
Norma Jean
BlessTheFall
Brand New (Daisy)

I'm a fan of non-super-cliche lyrics, clean vocals followed by screams/growls, and quick changes in the music (la la la BAM!).

I hate coming to this board because I usually just get flamed for those bands, but meh, maybe somebody just listens to music for enjoyment.

Okay so I found:
The number twelve looks like you
Inhale Exhale
Emarosa
Lower Definition

Anybody like any of these bands?

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:09 PM

I'd swear this was the most obvious troll ever if it weren't for the join date.

Meatplow 02-21-2010 05:10 PM

Just recommend the guy stuff if you can, lets not turn this into an argument.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 05:14 PM

Bring me the horizon
Stick to your guns
Winds of plague
Years spent cold

That's not trolling, i'm actually being serious.

And yeah maybe something like We Came as Romans, Underoath, Poison the Well.

arlowf 02-21-2010 10:31 PM

Thanks Jaundice.

In my defense I triiiieeeddd to get into Converge today; just don't get it.
Bring me the horizon and BlessTheFall have some of the cheesiest/cliche lyrics ever, so I'm trying to get away from them.

P.S. Appreciate the modding MeatPlow, i saw your sig; I once used Peste Noire's "Dueil Angoisseus" as the background music to a slideshow I did for Western CIV II class; teacher thought it was great "period music" because of the intro instrumentals... I put the first two minutes on loop lol.

EDIT: Okay I like "We came as Romans" so far, just have to make sure I don't look at the band at all as I have trouble taking music seriously coming a lead singer that looks like that...

xMalcolmXx 02-21-2010 10:36 PM

every time i die
poison the well
listen to converge until it makes sense
misery signals
botch
7 angels 7 plagues
dangers
dillinger escape plan

Okay, can I get some specific song recommendations on 7A7P... I have tried like five times to get into them, and I know they are even referenced by MiserySignals. No luck.
Same with DEP and PTW if you know any off the top of your head.

I'm already a misery signals fan because of the song "the year summer ended in June".

I'm not a troll, it's just hard for me to pinpoint what I like about an artist/group/band. I like Dan Fogelberg, sinead o connor, Sigur Ros, Brand New, WallsOfJericho, Interpol, GhostlandObservatory, DanceGavinDance, Misery Signals, BetweenTheBuriedAndMe, etc...
I actually don't get why i'm flamed or considered a troll so much on this site, unless I'm missing something and this a primarily deathmetal site.

Jaundice 02-21-2010 11:01 PM

Well the majority of the people here are musical elitists that download more obscure music in one day than the average person has heard, so when people come around listening to "generic" stuff like Devil Wears Prada we tend to assume it's a joke or we mess with them a little.

Dillinger Escape Plan, Sigur Ros, Brand New and Between the Buried and Me have quite a following here though, so you may be able to fit in.

arlowf 02-21-2010 11:28 PM

Yeah, i try to go "obscure" and find new stuff, hence this site, but i've found some bands are obscure for a reason if they are in any genre other than deathmetal; it's because they suck, or alteast the vocalists do.
And I like vocalists with talent, or atleast ones that can sing.

Moon Flavor 02-21-2010 11:34 PM

well there's your issue my man

there's a lot more to music than vocals
7a7p - a farewell to a perfect score, away with words, dandelion
DEP - 43% burnt, panasonic youth, unretrofied. pretty much covers the whole dillinger sound.
PTW - nerdy, lazzaro, crystal lake, apathy is a cold body, exist underground. same with dillinger.
