i kind of agree with Skit, and im not going to say "IM A HARDCORE SOAD FAN" but some of those songs arent silly

Friik 11-26-2005 01:58 PM
Peephole
Needles
Chop Suey
Radio/Video
Old School Hollywood
Lonely Day
I don't think any of those songs are silly.

And i would probably add:

Suggestions
Jet Pilot
**** the system

YDload 11-26-2005 04:33 PM

That's why a lot of them have question marks after the name, because I'm not quite sure if they're silly or not. But I rarely take any of their songs seriously, so it's all silliness to me :)

PepsiMetal 11-26-2005 04:43 PM

Isn't needles about some drugged person and then at the end basically wanting to kill himself. In concert when daron starts singing, he replaced second needle in my hand with a shotgun in my hand. So yea, I think it's pretty serious, apart from pull the tapeworm out of your *** and stuff. lol.

azbassman 11-26-2005 04:47 PM

Alot of their songs have hidden meaning behind the weird ass lyrics.

Kyle 11-26-2005 04:58 PM

Lonely Day has to be a silly song, I can't see Daron righting lyrics that are THAT bad.

Skit 11-27-2005 05:02 AM

Daron thought Lonely Day was shit and didnt want it on the album, It was Rick Rubin who told him to put it on there.

I personally think its one of the best songs on the album if you can look past the lyrics :p

The_Riddler 11-27-2005 06:12 AM

Thinking of System of a Down and Chop Suey is odd to me. Not because it was a huge hit, but I am just remembering when Avril covered the song and completely demolished it live...how sad :(
Lonely Day has to be a silly song, I can't see Daron righting lyrics that are THAT bad.
I thoought it was at first, ("most loneliest day"...) but the last line "it's a day that I'm glad I survived" makes me think it's about the Armenian genocide, from the point of view of a child. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems likely.

YDload 11-27-2005 08:31 PM

I really like Stealing Society; it's a perfect combo of Serj and Daron's lyrical styles. Serj starts the song with some poetic, abstract lyrics, and then Daron comes in later talking about the seedy Hollywood stuff he hinted at on the last two songs of Mezmerize.

I like the part "I'm a midnight fistfight" too, neat chords and stuff.

Mambuto_O'Mally 11-27-2005 10:11 PM

I thought that Mezmerize comes first. Now I am confused. Which one comes first?

Against Miik! 11-27-2005 10:21 PM

I like Mesmerize better of the two. EVERY song is good. Theres a few of the goofier songs on Hypnotize like Kill Rock and Roll and Shes Like Heroin that I don't really like. It's good that the released the albums separately though. 23 soad songs is a lot to handle at once, and i'm not one to say which should and should not have made the album. I would say though, that on the whole, this is there best work.

Dr. Jake Destructo 11-27-2005 11:23 PM

I beleive you are alone when you say that. Not that it's a bad thing, but I think I've heard from pretty everyone that they prefer one of SoaD's earlier works.

panthersfan16 11-28-2005 12:46 AM

I was really disappointed with Hypnotize. Mezmerize was so much better

The_Riddler 11-28-2005 02:17 AM
I was really disappointed with Hypnotize. Mezmerize was so much better
I am not sure if I should agree or not with that. When Mezmirize first came out, All of my friends listened to it and it was something completely new and well it was just amazing.

Hypnotize which is also good, just isn't as memorable as Mezmirize, not at all. There are a few great songs on the album, but none of them stand out as much as the songs on Mezmirize at least to me.

Hypnotize isn't a bad album, don't get me wrong though :) I am not disappointed with either album.

mezmerize came first then hypnotize

I pretty much prefer mesmerize and hypnotize over all soad albums except toxicity.

:amaze:
Even the Self-titled?

I have lost faith in mankind.

PepsiMetal 11-28-2005 10:38 PM

Ugh, I didn't like their self titled much. Toxicity is what got me into soad. Deer dance, needles, toxicity, aerials, etc... all great songs.

mudvayne420 11-28-2005 10:45 PM

If you people watched the dualdisc dvd then you'd see that John said they are basically going back to where they started(their roots). I think that Mezmerize was their new Stuff, but Hypnotize was a mix between their old stuff and new. I personally like hypnotize, because its the same soad just with a more creative sound. i loved the S/T, but its there debut album, and most bands want to Expand their sound and creativity.
I think most people don't like it because they really wanted this to sound like S/T but were let down when they heard hypnotize that they couldn't accept it for what it is. Hope i didn't offend anybody , but its what i think about this album, and Lonely Day Is My FAv. song i love the solo, what i think makes a good song is the way its structured, it doesn't matter how they sound or the way the lyrics are, but what should matter is if the music makes the mood, the lyrics fit the mood, and it assembles into a nice work of art. Art thats what i consider Hypnotize to be considered(i mean both hypnotize and mezmerize because i read that it was supposed to be one whole album.)

+zero+ 11-29-2005 09:59 PM

im kinda sick of s/t from hearing it too much.

Mambuto_O'Mally 11-29-2005 10:38 PM

I haven't listened to it for a while. I've been listening to alot of KsE lately. AOJB is an awesome CD. :thumb:

You guys think that SOAD will release a DVD? That would be sweet!!

laba 11-30-2005 03:14 AM

^I hope so, I'd get it straight away..

Skit 11-30-2005 05:05 AM
You guys think that SOAD will release a DVD? That would be sweet!!
They were supposed to release a DVD back in 2002 but it never happened :upset:

ValeOfShadows 11-30-2005 05:48 AM

I recently got over this band and hypnotize didnt help me get back into them.
Self-titled and Toxity was the best SOAD albums IMO.

pasulpepe 11-30-2005 12:58 PM

I thought hypnotize was fantastic. It has a lot of the quirky vocals that were in self title

I think my favorite was probably steal this ablum, Probably because it was so not accepted that it was almost undeground. Hypnotize is good and so is Mesmerize.

+zero+ 11-30-2005 10:43 PM

i really like hypnotize also. its unique but still has a similar style to the S/T, and toxicity albums.

Anthem 11-30-2005 10:53 PM

Oh man I just saw a video of Mind live back a while ago. Look on google video for system of a down if you want it. Its amusing to watch darons antics.

Kyle 12-01-2005 03:29 AM
I think my favorite was probably steal this ablum, Probably because it was so not accepted that it was almost undeground. Hypnotize is good and so is Mesmerize.
Wow finally somebody who thinks that, I really enjoy STA too. It is the album which introduced me to the band and I have loved it ever since I bought it. Ego Brain is so good.

AIC/EAZY-E 12-01-2005 03:43 AM

The songs that come from STA are my favourite, but STA isn't my favourite album. Yet again, it's not made to be an actual 'album'. Streamline, Roulette, Ego Brain, Mr. Jack, Innervision, Boom!, Highway Song, I-E-A-I-A-I-O...I like this set of songs better than the rest of SOAD's catalogue, especially the first four. Not much else can match up to these, maybe besides P.L.U.C.K.

pasulpepe 12-01-2005 07:54 AM

I think roulette is probably has most beautiful and poetic lyrics I have heard from SOAD. And Mr. Jack is good and Melodic, and ends in a good way (F*** you pig! F*** you pig!)

Mambuto_O'Mally 12-01-2005 08:35 AM

I really like STA. As an album as a whole its nothing special, but the songs on there are amazing. It's my favorite after S/T. The thing was it almost scarred me, because there are 16 songs on it, but its only 45 min.

I saw the Mind and Know live videos. They are awesome. I also saw the hypnotize DVD thing. Not really anything special.

YDload 12-03-2005 07:24 PM

My 3 favorite songs from each album:

System Of A Down: Sugar, Soil, PLUCK
Toxicity: Needles, ATWA, Chop Suey
Steal This Album: Highway Song, Streamline, Innervision
Mezmerize: Question!, Radio/Video, Sad Statue
Hypnotize: Solider Side, Vicinity of Obscenity, Stealing Society

Yes, they are in order.
