PT=Porcupine Tree?
Que Suerte! I wanna see them. :D Madey-How did Chris get in trouble? "Boob"- Refl, I know. There was more spam in that chat than on the first 10 pages of The Pit. NP: Steve Vai's rendition of the Halo theme. It's also wicked. |
But.. "punk" like that usually appeals to teeny-bopper teenagers because it has a catchy tune. Don't tell me that they actually listen to the lyrics.. because they don't.
Stop confusing the two! Read my thread. Tell me you don't learn the lyrics to the bands you like. It doesn't appeal just to teeny boppers. You're still being ignorant. |
Haha, way to go chief. Yeah, I'll probably make the PT action. What's the date again? I have it written in my room but I need to check it against the work calendar. And yeah, come down whenever you want. We can hit the beach or whatever.
Friday, May 13th. |
Oh, here I thought you meant he got in trouble for the BOIZ thing.
..nvm :upset: Where are you seeing Porcupine Tree? If you're seeing em, they should be in my proximity. |

I got your back, I enjoy some punk, like NOFX, Dead Kennedys, and Rancid. |
I am not being ignorant.
I can clearly see that punk is more about lyrics than skill or technique or whatever.. but most of those bands you mentioned write catchy riffs so that more people can be attracted to their sound.
Right, that's the definition of pop-punk. Catchy riffs, but still punk. I don't see why you think only teeny-boppers like catchy music, it's written to appeal to everyone. |
Tickets are 15 bucks for the show here, how much are they for you, Madey?
|
Sup Chris, how goes it?
Hey bud. Not much happening. Just waiting for the weekend as always. I'm trying to learn how to sweep pick, but I'm not doing to well. What's new with you? And Chris, it will be tough for me to work the PT concert on a Friday, unless it's a long weekend for me. I thought I remembered it being Saturday. We'll see though... |

Well, just try your best. It's going to be such a great show. |
Am I the only one here who isn't seeing Porcupine Tree?
|
I was just saying it mostly appeals to them.. because some of them look only on the surface when listening to songs. I'm not bashing the bands or anything.. I'm just saying that MOST people listen to them for the catchy melodies. The people who appreciate music more, look deeper into the songs rather than the catchiness.. such as you said the lyrics. Not everyone pays attention to the lyrics as closely as others do.
No no, that's just an excuse to be elitist. Dream Theater bores me. Tool bores me. I appreciate tons of music (more than you do apparently :D) I think you're off the mark here, and if you can't appreciate the musicianship it requires to write catchy music, you can't appreciate more eloquent music imo. |
Being able to write a good hook is a rare skill.
|
Dream Theater = ZzZzZzzZ
And Ray, yes. NP: Air - Electronic Performers |
Well, just try your best. It's going to be such a great show.
Ok, a bright side just turned up. I did a mapquest inquery and it quoted me a 5hr13min drive, and that's driving the speed limit. What time is the show at? |

I believe around 9:00. |
There's nothing wrong with that.
Radio-friendly and poppy beats the hell out of pretentious and self-serious every day of the week and twice on Sunday. |
I didn't say it was wrong. I was just making a statement about the type of music they play.
All right. I don't see the point of that. |
You're twisting my words around. In a nutshell, all I am saying is that those bands you mentioned are more radio-friendly and poppy. That's all. Because they write catchy riffs, they are considered pop and/or radio-friendly, if you will.
In a nutshell, your first post said it all falls under crap :D I was proving you wrong. |
I can enjoy the complexity of prog bands, and still appreciate simpler punk songs. I don't see what the argument is all about.
|
Okay? Good to know.
You basically just pointed out the obvious. |
Only because I don't like that genre. I didn't call it wrong, I just called it crap. Just my opinon. Dream Theater/Tool is crap to you.. so I don't know why I can't call that crap.. ?
Nah, I said they bore me. I appreciate that some people like their music though so I can't call it crap. :) |
Everyone needs their panties un-twisted.
|
Nah, I said they bore me. I appreciate that some people like their music though so I can't call it crap. :)
Of course you can. If you say "Band X is crap", you're saying "I think Band X is crap", which is inherently saying "I don't like Band X". |
Of course you can.

The best part of my day today was buying Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, Radiohead - Hail To The Theif, The Verve - Urban Hymns and Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger, and seeing the look on the face of the HMV clerk. I could tell he wanted to ask me if I knew which genre each of these bands were.

Eh, for me, "crap" deals with the end result, not the parts within it. |

Darkthrone are a little to tr00 for me. Good picks otherwise. |
Hurrah!
Musical arguements, hell yeah! Also I would be pretty confused in your selections if I had not know you as well Jason heh. http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=328569 /whores thread |
A good 1 hour and 45 minutes - 2 hours.
|
Mine only took about half an hour to an hour too :-/
/is voting Bobo for RMOTM all teh way |
Morning people
So apparently my first review on sputnik sucked :upset: NP:Megadeth-High speed dirt |
I am going to do some more providing I can find enough information on the bands since the information is rare...
I already knew all this about Vintersorg, it just needed time to type it up and such. Today was a perfect day, no work and nothing to do. But I hopefully plan to get a few more done in the near future because some bands need some more attention then they are getting now. |
I am not American though :)
|
I am not American though :)
Well, that was an own. |
Hell yes.
Do you have the new Fantomas yet?
Yeah actually, I just got it a week or so ago. It's pretty good. Do you? There's no way he's going to see this, is there.
The best part of my day today was buying Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, Radiohead - Hail To The Theif, The Verve - Urban Hymns and Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger, and seeing the look on the face of the HMV clerk. I suppose it must also have been comforting to know that the HMV clerk knew how different each was. |
cuz ur a girl rite
What are you talking about foo'? Anywhos I be off. See you all later  |

Oh yes, the HMV guy must have looked at the genres when he swiped the CDs. |

i'm sure everyone here can vouch for me when i say screaming and growling are two different things right? |
Ah, that would make sense. Cunning git.
I also ordered the new Fantomas album, from Amazon. Mainly because it was cheaper from there than I think I would ever find it in real life anyway :-/ Thankfully the packaging alone was worth it. |
What's the packaging like?
Screaming and Growling are very different things, yes. I just completed a three hour Mid-semester Chemistry exam, so Uni work can be DAMNED tonight. |
