Hadji 12-17-2005 12:17 AM

I don't mean good as in positive. I'd honestly rather receive some good negative crits. Something to really give me specific ideas of what to work on. I posted my first song in a long time and got a grand total of 2 people saying anything about it at all.

TojesDolan 12-17-2005 03:13 AM

OK, harsh you want. Harsh you'll get.

EDIT: There you go. Enjoy.

Hadji 12-17-2005 03:22 AM

 Thanks.

drumass04 12-17-2005 11:50 AM

Thanks for the compliment Voodoo :)

My crits haven't been upto much recently. I've made a promise to myself though, I'll make sure I do at least one full length crit every two days, and everyone who leaves CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on my pieces will get constructive criticism on theirs.

DeadReligion 12-17-2005 12:29 PM

Yeah, Tojes, you haven't been critting alot of stuff, and certainly not mine. Anyway, the only time I was here when there was a really huge wave of good stuff, was when I was really really shitty. Then there was about a week, maybe a little less, where I gave out quite a few 10/10s, but there haven't been any huge huge huge waves of good stuff recently...

Hadji 12-17-2005 12:31 PM

When IOWNU, APS, Morrissey, and Jason101 used to post regularly, there was always good stuff around.

drumass04 12-17-2005 12:50 PM

Aye, I remember those times (I was writing sh!te then) I only recently came back; writing half decent stuff now though :).

DeadReligion; some of your writing is absolutely awesome, I think you are one of my favourite writers on here at the moment.

I gave some of my writing to my english teacher to have a look at, she read the one that I posted on here ('For my father') in the lesson. She was quite emotional about it, she said that it was beautiful and that it was great I had a way to channel my emotions. I must say I was pleased when she said that it had taken a trip around the staff room, and I now have teachers coming up to me complimenting me on my writing :)

MidnightHysteria 12-17-2005 01:05 PM
midnight, you havent been here for more than four months
Exactly.

Well... actually.... a long time ago (far more than a year in the past), I was on quite frequently as Sk8r Crus8r. If anyone remembers him, note the similarity in our writing styles and the fact that we have the same icon. Neither of those things is coincidence.

drumass04 12-17-2005 01:40 PM

hehe, I'm really in the flow today, 2 major crits so far. and another in the pipelines :)

I think I remember you as Sk8r Crus8r. I certainly remember that Avatar, now you mention it. Can't really remember much about you though, I didn't really crit back then. I find I learn a lot from crit'ing other people's work, and I enjoy doing it.

Nightvision 12-17-2005 04:12 PM

Hey community thread. :)

This is one of my 'I'm gonna try and be here a bit more from now on' posts, which mean that I might do a ****eload of critiques, post a sub-standard song, log on about twice more this week and then things will go back to normal again.

Such are the perils of having a new girl.

In other news, hey Hadji - haven't seen you around for aaaaaages. DeadReligion, I still haven't forgotten I owe you a critique!

Hadji 12-17-2005 04:18 PM

I haven't posted lyrics in aaaaaages. Most lyrics I write now aren't so much lyrics for the sake of lyrics anymore, so I don't bother posting them here much.

morrissey 12-17-2005 04:49 PM

Nice name change, back to old times. Haven't seen you in a while, how are things?

I don't write or critique anymore. Those were indeed good times.

drumass04 12-17-2005 04:59 PM

wow, return of the oldies. :) I remember you all when you posted all the time lol. Theyw ere good times. Unfortunately I was writing a pile of doggy dodoos back then. I think things have changed now though.

Do you not write anymore morrissey :( some of your stuff was absolutely awesome. I looked up to you guys, you had a skill I thought I would never possess.

TojesDolan 12-17-2005 05:39 PM

You're caching up, drumass. You really are, somehow. :)

On a related note, I really can't get around DeadReligion's stuff, mostly because I kinda relate his material with punk for some reason... I'll give him a try later. :D

I've been doing pretty good. I've got a band and a recording studio. I'm pretty happy. How about you?

drumass04 12-17-2005 06:42 PM

Thanks Tojes; for some reason I know get inspiration from the strangest of things; some random guy in the streets' face, sunrise, my school bus.

A little question for ya; are my in depth crits any good?
I try and be as thorough and accurate as possible, but I just want someone elses opinions.

drumass04 12-17-2005 06:57 PM

Goodnight S&L, got drum exam in 11 hours, so i better get a bit of shut-eye.

morrissey 12-17-2005 09:36 PM

Sounds good, I should hit you up on AIM sometime, get some recordings off you if you have them. I remember you getting some recording equipment for Christmas last year, I guess things are finally panning out.

I haven't been up to much, I've been writing a lot of music lately, but less full songs and more little parts that I can't combine. I don't really record, I just do it for fun. And like I said, I don't write lyrics any more. I've written exactly one set of lyrics in 2005. :(

So yeah, hopefully I'll see you around.

OhVanDammit if you want to hit me up on AIM. I'd like it. I've got plenty of recordings.

schwypees 12-17-2005 10:18 PM

All this talk of the "good old days" has got me so weepy. So weepy and sleepy. Good night.

That's a very subjective subject, as a matter of fact, but I think your critiques are really good.

drumass04 12-18-2005 06:48 AM

Thanks, that confused me for a minute; a very subjective subject. lol

A_Perfect_Sonnet 12-19-2005 07:26 PM

I'm getting an Ibanez SA160 for Christmas. Neato.

TojesDolan 12-19-2005 08:53 PM

Nice.

I want an amp but the ones around here suck really bad, the best I can get is a 15 watt Marshall, and I've read only bad things about it.

So I'll just wait and buy it somewhere else.

A Word Of Advice From Yours Truly

Thus it is that we are all friends here, and as our luck may be we all share an uncommon love for the written word; for if we did not, why would we be here, a place so dedicated to such a practice?

It was just now, less then five minutes ago, that I came across a stream of advice, so to say, from a very unlikely source. It was, as I imagine it will be, to your suprise, from a Robbin Williams movie. I am sure many of you may have seen it, it is called: The Dead Poets Society. While I am only through about 1/6 of the movie I felt it a duty, as a friend and fellow poet, to come here and share something that Robin said and which I found most honest and profound.

It is medicine, science, politics, and things of such nature that make the world go around, but, it is poetry which makes us human. It is poetry which allows us to express our emotion and our own ability to think. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and that race breeds passion. Poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are all things which we stay alive for.

"O' me, O' life of the questions of these recurring
Of the endless trains of the faithless
Of cities filled with the foolish,
What good amid these
O' me, O' life?"
~Withman

We are here and life and identity exist because. As this play goes on, this play called life, it is up to us, to lend a verse. Thus with this in mind I ask: what will your verse be?

Alot of that was taken straight from the script and I do hope you take it to heart. I have seen this forum grow since it was naught but a seed nurtured by the words of you, the poets. While the this tree which once grew so strong started to fade we did bring it back and now it is thriving again. I say, keep it going and write things of meaning, ignore those who write "to sucking the marrow out of life" through their own drab pieces. Lend a hand to those who you know to be dedicated, offer advice, and listen to yourself, for your own writing will grow through your own devices.

Keep the word alive.

~Over and out~

Brilliant film :thumb:

TojesDolan 12-20-2005 11:03 PM

I found the movie the most amazing resource for the modern poet. Cheers on that. :D

It's good to know fellow people liked the film as well.

DeadReligion 12-20-2005 11:19 PM

Cybergasm, you're totally right. Oh, and thanks for the inspiration, couldn't have said it better me own self (I'm not being sarcastic). On a completely unrelated side note, your screen name gave me a big laugh. You are now considered by me to be cool. Congratulations.

morrissey 12-21-2005 01:56 AM

The guy who plays Neil in Dead Poets Society plays Wilson on House.

That was a indeed a great movie. Fond memories from back in the day.

TojesDolan 12-21-2005 02:25 AM

Oh my fucking God mozarella you post a damn lot. :(

You had probably half my postcount early this school year and now it's above me. Really far. Hmmm. Strange little awkward magicians.

On a related note, I watched the movie last year for some Ethics project, so it's not really "back in the day" for me. Just a few months ago.

EDIT: 21 posts away from becoming the highest S&L communty thread poster.

...

ok there's no pride in there. :upset:

A_Perfect_Sonnet 12-21-2005 12:14 PM

You'd dare strip me of my title?

Edit: check out this band.

http://www.purevolume.com/shediedrealpretty

TojesDolan 12-21-2005 12:30 PM

Sure why not. :)

I like the intro... pretty dark. I'm not into punk a lot... The vocals seems a bit too forced, though. Not the adding of them, just the singer is stretching way too much.

I'll give it a more through later, ok? :)

haha and she had it reset a couple times before...and not to mention the fact that she has several other user names with...a lot of posts accounted to them.

mozzy, you're a mod? Prove it. Ban me.

i bet she doesn't even know what a ban is. heh.

I only ban people with numbers in their usernames

Ah, the antiquity of not-school.

*cough*

There wasn't a community thread in '03. There was LC, and us LCers are the true vets.

RunAmokRampant 12-22-2005 04:16 AM

how long does it take to "become" a vet?

SubtleDagger 12-22-2005 04:25 AM

You're a vet (by my standards) when:

1) Almost everyone you used to talk with on MX has left aside from you, save 1 or 2 people.
2) Everything on MX has gotten dramatically worse than it used to be, and you actually start thinking that it was better when you started, even though it was still bad.
3) You've been here (consistently) for at least 1 and a half to 2 years.

All of the above must have taken place.
