Hey all im new, this thread is awesome, very educational. I was wondering what the band Himsa would be classified, im gessing metalcore...
i'm guessing shit

BuddyBigsby 09-08-2004 11:40 PM

Himsa = Metal / Thrash

Wuh woh, several things to reply to

Cb: No, I'm pretty sure Hand of Hope isn't a sub-label of Eulogy (I could be wrong). The reason Eulogy advertises it is because it's owned by members of Evergreen Terrace, who are on Eulogy. I think they're just helping them out

The Warriors are so awesome. They're like Rage Against the Machine if they went hardcore. I know that doesn't sound too appealing but oh... *jizzes self* I HIGHLY recommend seeing them live if you ever get the chance.

iHATEgc: Weren't you insisting that Haymaker was a good album?

BuddyBigsby 09-08-2004 11:49 PM
pfft you guys are so ignorant, listening to different styles of music broadens your ability and style hence making your music more original and interesting
No way dude, Hardcore is the only music you should listen to ever. Don't be stupid.

Hahaha, it's cool.

Converge:
"Last Light" (song with clean, yelly vocals)
"You Fail Me" (best song on the album. slow, gritty and dirty, and just sinister)
"In Her Shadow" (the acoustic one with the 'creepy chanting' we were talking about')

Zao:
"Breath of the Black Muse" (Good song ruined by clean vocals)
"The Last Song from Zion" (POD song)
"The Last Revelation (The Last Prophecy)" (GOOD SONG)

Good list although a couple things need to be mentioned.

Daughters - Not screamo. Just crappy.
The Locust - Not screamo. but good.
Fear Before - Not entirely screamo, they mix it up, and that is why I love them.
Blood Brothers - Also mix it up
Saetia - Also also mix it up. I'm seeing them next month. Ohhh yeah.
Grindcore in its purest form consisted of short, apocalyptic blasts of noise played on standard heavy metal instrumentation (distorted guitar, bass, drums). Although grindcore wasn't just randomly improvised, it certainly didn't follow conventional structure, either; while riffs could sometimes be picked out, pure grindcore never featured verses, choruses, or even melodies. Grindcore vocals sounded torturous, ranging from high-pitched shrieks to low, throat-shredding growls and barks; although the lyrics were usually quite verbose, they were very rarely intelligible. Some bands in this catagory can also be known as Mathcore. Meaning they're more complex in the musical writings.

Grindcore bands:
Napalm Death, Dillinger Escape Plan, Death, Carcass, The Locust, The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, Cock and Ball Torture, Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed...
Not grind. Great job writing this but you contradicted yourself. You said that grindcore didnt follow conventional structure, yet dillinger escape plan is one of the most technical bands ive ever heard. Never heard mathcore being known as grind... D E P doesnt have any blast beats, they dont have 30 second songs, its not all distorted. There is no growls or high pitched shrieks, and D E P does have intelligble lyrics, therefore there is no reason for D E P to be called grind. :)

i dont know they sound screamo to me, they sound like other screamo bands, what are they then?

The locust is definitely somewhat screamo, they are grind, but they do have the chaotic feel of screamo.

Chaos, yes. The emotion which is the main characteristic of screamo, no.

Eh, it's kind of hard to say. Technical is sometimes associated with grind because the instruments work together very technically I believe?

sexcore 09-10-2004 03:28 PM

could u guys even try to define afi, like the last 3 albums..

Pop-punk. And you're not supposed to talk about them here. Go to the pop-punk forum.

Its wierd, its kind of oxymoronic, they have technicallity, but they are simple... Hard to explain.

I see, that means "The number twelve looks like you" is what then? not emotional, but it has the chaoticness, Im lost at what genre they are...

BuddyBigsby 09-10-2004 04:44 PM

Can't really say. I don't really like them. Probably tech, if I remember correctly.
