What do you guys think about Thurisaz?

Silenius 10-17-2007 06:22 PM

Hehe

DJ Vikerness - Clubbin Norway

RiceMonster 10-17-2007 06:23 PM

Hviss Lyset Tar Oss is the best overall, however, Filosofem has a few songs that I like more (ie. Jesus' Tod).

TojesDolan 10-17-2007 06:23 PM

I had some time to listen to Absu, Abigor, Alkonost, Amok and Astarte and I noticed all of the albums I listened to had the same as‪s sh‪it "wind effect #04" for the intros.

Equus also uses this wind effect.

NemesisDivina 10-17-2007 06:24 PM

I like Varg's Black Metal a lot lot lot more than his ambient. That's why I think Filosofem is so boring apart from Dunkelheit and Jesus' Tod (which are both fantastic tracks). The only Burzum ambient that I've come across that I've actually found enjoyable was Channeling the Power of Sou off of the s/t.

EDIT: Tojes, which Abigor?

Silenius 10-17-2007 06:24 PM

Abigor's Orkblut - The Retaliation is the only really good album wroth checking out by them.

About Burzum, Filosofem has a lot of really good songs on it, but the 25 minute one is kinda lame. Erblicket Die Toechter des Firmaments is easily the best song on Filosofem.

Awesome band, both albums rule. I think their second is my favorite.

Stormrider 10-17-2007 06:26 PM

I listened to Abigor for the first time last weekend, and I didn't finish the album. It was good in the beginning, but it got boring a couple of songs in... I'll give it another chance some other time, maybe.

TojesDolan 10-17-2007 06:26 PM

Nachthymnen

The album had its moments but still I found it funny that the intro wind effect was pretty much the same in all three bands in selected albums.

Yeah, the 25 minute one is so ****ing boring. I agree with you on Erblicket Die Toechter des Firmaments. Basically I just listen to the first three songs then shut it off.

That's the only Abigor album I have. It's pretty good, I enjoy the subtle incorporations of folk in it. The album as a whole is pretty repetitive however... Unleashed Axe Age is a good song.

Nostalgia 10-17-2007 06:28 PM

Tons of band use that effect. Some bands let samples intrude on the music, like Geimhre's For the Blood of Hinterland. Between each song there's a 2 minute Braveheart sample of a bunch of horses running around and naying.

Ah, you checked it out? Kickass.

NemesisDivina 10-17-2007 06:29 PM

Blood Fire Death uses that effect way too much as well. I hate how Quorthon used up a whole track just for horses naying and battle sounds.

On topic of Bathory, I just uploaded Under the Sign of the Black Mark (finally). I'm gonna wait for a while to listen to it. I'd like to hear it under prime conditions...

Angmar 10-17-2007 06:30 PM

Nachthymnen rules :o

Orkblut is also really awesome.

Dargon 10-17-2007 06:30 PM

Basically all black metal bands have used a wind sound effect at some point, thanks for your incredibly astute observation Toejam. The secret of black metal has now been solved.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that intro. Sets a really good mood and leads perfectly into A Fine Day to Die.

I'm listening to Scent of A Dream. It's really good.

NemesisDivina 10-17-2007 06:34 PM

3 minutes of horses naying, galloping and battle sounds? I don't think so. It would have been a lot more effective if he just used it as a minute long intro or something. A Fine Day to Die is such a good song though...

@Jammie

Nostalgia 10-17-2007 06:34 PM

Why haven't you been on lately, Dargon? I've missed your company, buddy.

Yeah. Then again the intro to the s/t is no shorter. **** off austin.

Nostalgia 10-17-2007 06:36 PM

Glad we're still on good terms!!!

Well yeah I suppose they have to add BLEAK AMBIENT to the whole album and windeffect04.wav or whichever obscure analog tape they use must be around in the recording process.

By the way, I can't figure out which song is featured after Necromansy in that live bootleg I got.

I thought it could be sacrifice but maybe it's just an extended version.

Have you heard Mollachd? There's a hilarious Braveheart sample somewhere on that album. It's really retarded.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-17-2007 06:41 PM

i see you are travelling nicely down the path of pretentious bullshit fageric

fukk off non metal

Stormrider 10-17-2007 06:43 PM
Yeah. Then again the intro to the s/t is no shorter.
Now, the intro to the s/t could have been a bit shorter.

But eh, I think I'm the only one who likes Odens Ride Over Nordland.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-17-2007 06:44 PM

nothing will ever touch aakon ketreeh's orc orgy on 'suffering'. classik dark ambientz

I don't really like or dislike little one minute intro tracks

I like it within the context of the album, but I would be pissed if it came up in a shuffle or something.
