Pete also played "Here for More" (Daltrey song,).. Pete playing Daltrey tune..hhhmmm....isn't that the sign that world is about to end.. :)
he also played "Cut My Hair" on piano, Sheraton Gibson...

JohnXDoesn't 06-04-2006 10:08 AM

Ah, man. I would of loved to of heard Cut My Hair on piano. And Sheraton Gibson is a small gem. And yeah, the world must be upside down with Pete playing a Daltrey tune. Must be the impending date of 6-6-06 at work or something. I'm sorry I missed that....

wanderer 06-04-2006 12:51 PM

I of course meaned to write '"Mini opera" will be 30-35 minutes long on album' not '"Mini opera" will 30-35 minutes long album'
hopefully my bad english didn't confuse anyone...

cheers

Looks as though Pete's brothers band Casbah Club will be opening the tour. They claim to be a "Mod Rock" band, but I've listened and they sound like a fairly standard hard rock band to me. Although their excellent musicianship and some interesting songs save them. Very experienced players, one and all. The drummer and rthymn guitar player are from the band Big Country, who were always known for being a very tight unit. Might be worth getting to the shows early for if you are going...

MidnightRider 06-05-2006 08:03 PM

I almost bought the Tommy/Quad DVD the other day but decided not to blow all my money. Hopefully it will come down below $35 bucks soon, I'd have to throw aside all of my morals to pay that much for a DVD.

Lunch 06-05-2006 08:20 PM

Yea that is a little over the top. I paid $25 for mine copy (Best Buy had a sale when it first came out), and I think that price is right.

JohnXDoesn't 06-05-2006 10:29 PM

Yes, I also have been waiting. Check Amazon regularly. But then even with a sale S&H will inflate the cost. I'd be willing to go $30 all included, but no higher.

EDIT: $31.00 free shipping, before tax. I'm not quite ready to bite yet...

EDIT 2: Used from $17.00! 103 available. I think I may be hooked...

zabbit82 06-06-2006 10:33 AM

I would go used. Cheaper price and just a tad bit less than perfect quality.

Lunch 06-06-2006 12:42 PM

On Amazon they have the "Used and New from x" price, but some of those are supposedly in new condition and are cheaper than the Buy Now price. I've never bought anything from one of them, but I'm going to try it on my next amazon order to see if it's legit.

WhiteVolta7 06-06-2006 02:39 PM

the other day my friend thought baba o riley and we dont get fooled again were the same song.

I have bought used games from them before and everything has gone well. I think Amazon has a quality guarantee of some sort for the items they sell used by independent sellers. So even if the seller doesn't want to honor the return, after going through a little form filing you can get your money back or an exchange. I think I'm going for it. They have good sellers. And I'll be happy with the Quad disc alone.

I could see how that could happen if you are new to the group or not very familiar with their work or nearly deaf. They don't sound the same at all, but the synth intro's can easily throw a Who newb off the track.

PinkFreud 06-06-2006 06:13 PM

I've bought the Cream "Those Were The Days" boxed set used on Amazon for like, half the list price. It was new but had a factory defect where the booklet is upside down. Damn good deal. All I have to do is flip the box over!

Did he call it Teenage Wasteland? Because that's ultimate Who noobdum.

PremierManiac 06-06-2006 07:44 PM

That is my number 1 Who related pet-peeve.

Guitarist_ 06-07-2006 06:50 AM

ive been meaning to buy "whos next" next month ( i only buy an album once every 2 months) but now im considering getting cream's "disraeli gears". Hard decisions..
i still love L@L. i also have the unofficial greatest hits "my generation" which got me into them. Im also keen to see what the new album will be like. Its great to see Pete update his site with info often.

rockinbass17 06-07-2006 04:09 PM

School let out today for me. Due to my high energy brought on by this fact, I've been listening (and dancing) to LaL and Who's Next all day.

I'm so glad about the tour. I hope tickets aren't too expensive, I want to be close to the stage this time.

Some kid told me today that The Who sucked.

I punched him out Pete Townsend style.

dr._feelgood 06-09-2006 09:01 PM

The Who are always overshadowed by Led Zeppelin, but personally, I'd say The Who are slightly better due the the lyrics and songwriting abilities, but it is a very close tie at best, people arealways saying Led Zeppelin is so much better, without even hearing a majority of The Who's work.

Ephemeral 06-09-2006 10:15 PM

To me:

The Who > Led Zeppelin

Pete Townsend's lyrics and music beat theirs anyday.

Also, I like Moon better than Bonham.

pandoraa 06-09-2006 10:50 PM

ace mate!

Guitarist_ 06-09-2006 11:17 PM

its hard to vote whos better. page's guitar solos are sometimes sloppy which i dont like. But i think the quality of songs between the two are equal, but led zeppelin have more quantity of quality songs...if that makes any sense

i don't agree

while i do admit not knowing much of Zep's back catalog, especially post Zozo, i only know about half the Who's catalog anyways, only owning 4 albums and seeing several DVDs as well as their radio tunes.

A 1-on-1 analysis.

Moon and Bonham: Moon. I doubt this needs explaining.

Townshend and Paige: Technically, Paige, but songwriting-wise (and vocally), Townshend.

Daltry and Plant: Daltry, no question. Plant's voice is so thin, and so feminine. And he don't spin mikes.

Entwistle and Jones: This is perhaps the biggest overkill in this competition. Even if you think Zep is better in the other three catagories, only a fool would think so in this one.

those are all really good points. I think both bands have great abilities in constructing songs. I think the vocals in "The Who" are better then zeppelins but some of zeppelins music compositions like "since ive been loving you" and "the rain song" (cant remember if thats what its called but its acoustic and starts off with "in the spring time of my summer" or sumthing) are amazing

Guitar over the head, amirite?

Yeah, of course. And in a fight the Who would kick Zep's arse. :)
No contest, fist fight or otherwise. You can't even compare the two. The Who are the cure for all things Zeppelin. I Can't Explain is a better song on it's own then Zep packed into whole albums.

Oh. and didi anyone see the NBA Finals, game one? The Dallas Mavericks had a "Who" introduction. It was way cool. After the visitors were introduced the arena went dark and you heard the drums of Moon, the crowd roaring. Then that famous Daltrey scream and the announcer began to introduce the coach and bench players as the end of Won't Get Fooled again was blasting thoughout the arena. And they looped it so the vocal wouldn't start again and the song wouldn't end too soon. Then right as they introduced the last player the song came to an end. Perfectly timed, very dramatic, and obviously well done and rehearsed. And right after the last bench player was introduced the synth intro to Eminence Front started and the crowd went nuts. And then Kenny's drums kicked in and right as the full band joined in a big explosion in the arena and the announcer began introducing the starting line-up for the Mavericks which again was perfectly timed to end with that big Eminence finish right when the announcer was done. And it was loud.

That was sweet..:chug:

Dragon_Prince 06-10-2006 11:19 AM

Ps. eveyrone knows they are playing one of the tommy tour cocnert(without moon) on townshend's site?

Jody LeCompte 06-10-2006 11:26 AM

Is Pino Palidino really going back to play for the Who on the next tour?

JohnXDoesn't 06-10-2006 12:26 PM
Ps. eveyrone knows they are playing one of the tommy tour cocnert(without moon) on townshend's site?
That was good to know. Funny news clips from back then. Pretty good MTV peice. That is a good band they play with. Pete's solo touring band, actually. Except for the guitar player. You can see the same percusionist and back up singers on the much more recent Lifehouse performances, where his long time bass player also joins him. As well as Bundrick on keyboards, of course. And the drummer (Simon Phillips) is excellent. He played on Pete's solo album Empty Glass. Pete "discovered" him in a music shop and enlisted him when he was just 17. They sound good.
Is Pino Palidino really going back to play for the Who on the next tour?
Yes. At Pete's website (http://www.petetownshend.co.uk/) they have all new info in his Diary Pages, including pics and a short and crude video from a rehearsal. Pino is there. They also have info on the new stuff. Apparently this "mini-opera" is centered around a teenage rock band who find fame and fortune via the internet and is based on Pete's short story "The Boy Who Heard Music". I hope it's not overtly pretentious. Or just as bad corny and cheesy. The Who have always been able to pull stuff like this off, but I'll wait and see. The new album on the other hand I'm very much looking forward too. The mini-opera as well, but that's more a curiosoty for me.

Jody LeCompte 06-10-2006 12:29 PM

Man..

As much as I love The Who, this means the John Mayer Trio won't be playing anymore. I was hoping they'd bring blues back into the mainstream...
