That would be more than enough to trade abck and forth. Thing is I have a horrible net connection meaning that I have to upload from another connection and download from another connection. Its a pain and half the times, the connection doesnt work but I would be willing if we could get some more peeps here.

Rush Virgin

If you're a Rush virgin and fancy getting into their stuff then it's probably best to start with the two Retrospective albums...they've got a good mix of tracks.

Subdivisions is one of my favourite tracks...but to be honest they've done too much good stuff to list. I've been listening to them since I was about 12. First album I heard was Fly by Night , Geddy Lee's vocals were so different to anything I'd ever heard that I was instantly hooked.

Personally I've not really been able to get into their newer stuff. I'd say Counterparts was the last album they did that I enjoyed. Perhaps it's just me...or maybe they've gone a bit off the boil? Interestingly when Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson released their solo albums I thought they were both great...perhaps they've started to stifle each others creativity within the band?

Perhaps someone could recommend a few of the tracks off Test for Echo and Vapour Trails.

TojesDolan 02-20-2006 06:10 PM

Earthshine from Vapour Trailsis quite good.

Resist and Dog years for Test for echo.

pohl_56 02-20-2006 07:47 PM

Well if anyone does decide to upload any albums by and prog rock band including Rush, I am:

styx_rock_man@yahoo.com

But yea. Personally, I favor Hemispheres. It was the first Rush CD I got and has kinda stuck with me for a long time.

thunderzstruck 03-01-2006 08:14 PM

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I went on a big non-Rush thing. Well I now have every studio album of theirs so I have a lot of Rush to listen to now!

But I am listening to Test For Echo and it's extremely good. Limbo is a great instrumental with Geddy's choir like singing in the back. Resist is a nice little song too.

I have noticed their newer stuff sounds more.. alternative less "rocky" feeling to them. (With the exception of Vapor Trails) Which I think was a good direction for them. What do you think about it? I perfer their more rockish ealier material. But maybe it will grow with time to me.

thunderzstruck 03-02-2006 08:52 PM

/ahem

any thoughts? discussion?

rockinbass17 03-04-2006 12:11 PM

Yea, I would like to keep this thread alive, too, but I haven't heard anything off of Test for Echo.

I was in Virgin records in Union Square yesterday, with a gift card that "was supposed to" have fifty dollars on it. So, I brought two albums, Hemispheres and Yes' Fragile. As it turns out, the card had two bucks on it. Two! And I couldn't bring the albums back to hte shelves, becasue that would be humiliating. So I dug into my wallet, and spent all the money I had on me. Got home, realized all the rest of my cash is in the bank. I am now kinda broke.

At least they were worth it. Hemispheres is wonderful (it finally completes my collection of their late 70's albums) Cyngus X-1 book 2 is insanely good.

Hemispheres

Hemispheres is an amazing album...there's an atmosphere to the whole album that is too difficult to put into words...it's one of those albums that you come back to time and time again and somehow it transports you back to the first time you heard it.
Yea, I would like to keep this thread alive, too
I agree...keep it alive. Why is it that the interesting threads die a death and the boring "Metallica are amazing" threads go on forever with copious amounts of pointless posts? :)

That's a good question

/wants to see R30

rockinbass17 03-04-2006 10:55 PM

Hell yea, they're godly live. Is it out yet?

/knows there was discussion about this a while back

BigTrav415 03-04-2006 10:57 PM

I just got 2112, and I absolutely love it. I plan to buy some more albums soon. Suggestions?

rockinbass17 03-04-2006 11:04 PM

A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permenant Waves. That order.
But pretty much you can't go wrong with anything from '75-'81.

thunderzstruck 03-04-2006 11:57 PM

Yeah, I enjoy their '75-'81 albums the best. The newer sound has attracted me all that much but I'm giving it a few chances to grow on me. Test For Echo is a pretty good album but nothing can compare to their earlier "rockier" material.

2112 is a fantastic album with not even one weak track.
