myself, no.

I don't know if any of you listen to Slayer, but Dave Lomardo used this cymbal on the South of Heaven album and I really want one, but I can't figure out what it is. It might be a chinese splash because it sounds like a very high pitched china when it's stuck, but it has a splashy decay. I've heard Lars Ulrich use something similar on The Shortest Straw.

bobby__johnny 07-20-2005 03:16 PM

could be a smaller china...16" or less.

im looking for a new ride cymbal thats in the price range of about $200. I want something thats heavy of course, something with a good sized bell on it and is versatile in all types of music(well a lot of music) like hardcore, rock, punk, alternative, and stuff like that. 20inch of course. and umm thats it. thanks.

oh yea and mixes good with AAXplosion and Stage crashes as well as a AA chinese.

and no im not a brand whore so it doesnt matter what brand its from(and dont be stupid and put something from camber lol)

what about a peavey ride? hah..

i'd go with a 20" Paiste Alpha Medium Ride for that price range, all paiste rides are beautiful and alphas are the more affordable ones IMO

look into the AA Medium and Rock rides....both are good, the Rock ride has more deinfintion and presence, but the Medium would be more versatile overall.

Tim 07-21-2005 03:07 PM

coo coo. ill check them all out. thanks a lot.

JamesXKillXyou 07-22-2005 01:45 AM

hey guys! I play the new age Hardcore/Metal scene based stuff. But I do like to kick back with some solid rock rythms as well.

Im fond of Zildj. What can you point me towards? Im wanting something that gives a nice heavy sound for it but is fast too. I was looking at the fast crashes and the projective A series. For a Ride I would like more of a Crash/ride. Ive heard A series medium rides are nice. And for Hi hats Im kinda lost.

thx! I dont want obnoxiously loud cymbals I want something that will cut through with definition but still maintain a tough sound for the hxc/metal.

Dr.Who 07-22-2005 03:02 AM

OK guys I play mostly metal hardcore. Just faster music but i also like to play some jazzish grooves. I have the sabian b8 set up * shakes head * And i want to start up grading to Zildjian 14 inch A custon hats, two a 17 and 16 inch fast crashes a Z custon 21 inch megga ride bell . and a 18 z custon med. crash some help on what u think and if someone could find me a deal on these on the web ne wear i will shower you with kisses. ( not really) but thanks guys!

definatly go with the medium ride....20" or so.

Crashes, definatly look into the no Thinner than the medium crashes...A or A custom

as for hats, never can go wrong with new beats.

stay away from the Z customs. look into A Zildjian Rock Crashes/rides if you need the durability....everything else looks good though.

...actually, dont bother with the fast crashes either. in your genre, they'll crack up easily...look into the A Custom Projection or Medium crashes if anything.

A Rock Crash, Z Custom Medium Crash, A Custom Medium Crash.

Murd_666 07-22-2005 12:51 PM

jamesXkillXyou- also look into sabian, crashes-AA Mediums/rocks, HH Mediums/rocks,
RIDE- AA medium, 20" AA craash ride, AAX Stage ride, hats AAX stage hats

Crash VS Crash-Ride?

Hi guys! Can anybody explain to me the differences between a ride cymbal and a crash-ride?

I'm currently experimenting with using a normal 17" crash instead of the ride cymbal but the sound always ends up as a continous crashing sound (ok i'm not very good at putting this into words) so I'm wondering if getting a crash-ride would be the solution

crash=a crash and a crash/ride= a big *** cymbal that isnt worth gettign because usually they are so freakin heavy an the sound from them sucks. its supposed to be light enough to crash on and heavy enoughj to ride on but it sucks,

DruMMeR_BoY14 07-22-2005 08:58 PM

Yeha crash rides are not relaly worth getting, if you want a cymbal you can both ride and crash on, get a ride no hevier than medium weight, the edges usally have a pretty decent crash sound and you can stil ride on them.

Seafroggys 07-22-2005 11:58 PM

Or you could get Rudes....I don't think they come in crashes.

stevoibanez 07-24-2005 10:49 AM

Ok, so I just got my new cymbals, but I need another pair of crashes. I want them warm and dark, to contrast with my AAXplosions. I was thinking 18" sig Saturation crash, and a 18" HHX stage crash. Would these two blend well together? And what thickness is the Saturation crash?

geeseks 07-24-2005 10:53 AM

doh. thanks for the tip. luckily i haven't bought a crash ride yet :D

hyperdrummer 07-24-2005 01:23 PM

k...umm i was looking and i cant decide between the zildjian a custom pack(20" medium ride, 16" medium-thin crash, and 14" hats) or the a classic pack(16"medium-thin crash, 20" medium ride, and 14" new beat hi hats)....or should i just get an entirely different cymbal pack?(...yea i dont want to get em one by one, id prefer to get a pack...)

stevoibanez 07-24-2005 01:27 PM

^^ the classic pack looks good. But I would suggest a AAX stage pack.

And seriously reconsider the "pack" thing. If its because of the price, you can get the same sizes and the same line for the same price as the pack

hyperdrummer 07-24-2005 01:36 PM

k ill look into the AAX stage pack...thnx for the help

hyperdrummer 07-24-2005 03:12 PM

o and if i do buy my cymbals one at a time...any suggestions? (only looking for hats a crash and a ride right now)

stevoibanez 07-24-2005 04:14 PM

Depends on what sound you want.
I suggest AAXcelerator hats, or AAX fast hats.
AAXplosion crashes. Really versatile. You can use them to play softer stuff, but they also explode when you lay into them a bit.
The stage ride is really nice. Also the AA medium ride

Chrysler 07-24-2005 06:15 PM

Can someone give me a list of about 5 decent rides for rock/alternative please. Im going to Birmingham Drum Centre and im going to test alot of them, but I want a few tips on ones you have and like/dont like from personal experience. :thumb:

BradDawg 07-24-2005 08:06 PM

Help with set up please.

Currently I have:

14" AAX Stage Hats
18" Vault Crash
19" AAXplosion Crash
19" Paragon China
22" Paragon Ride

I am looking to buy 2 more crashes and 2 splashes(Sabians), i know im a brand whore.

For the Crashes I was looking at getting a 17" Vault and a 17" AAXplosion.

For the splashes I wanted to choose between the 8 and 10 paragons, 10 and 12 evolutions, and the 9 and 11 max splashes.

If anyone could offer some insight on making some key cymbal choices it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

you need some dark sounds in there....17" HHX Stage Crash and an 18" Hand Hammered Medium Crash :thumb:

splashes? 10" and 12" AAX Splashes...best next thing to the Max Splashes....and cheaper.

Troy9915 07-25-2005 04:18 PM

What sound characteristics do the Sabian AAX series cymbals have? I might get the performance pack but I'm not sure about the sound.

Tim 07-25-2005 04:30 PM

AAX series are bright cymbals. they are loud in all volumes of music, but can also be played in softer music and still sound really good. they dont get distorted in high volumes....(my fav feature). They are a versatile cymbal. Id recommend them. Especially the stage crash.

bobby__johnny 07-25-2005 05:30 PM

basicially, they are a little more focused and controllable than the AA's, but the AA's will have a more energetic sound to them.
