it seems to have a bit of a desert theme, but it is not very clear. Masters Apprentices has my favourite ever clean vocal part.
Yeah, I love the clean part almost as much as I love how it goes back into the heavy part. That just blew me away. |

what I admire so much about Opeth is: they can blend in so many different parts. try this: take along song of them (almost any :p) which has both clean an growling parts (almost any :p) and take four short sections of the song. one clean singing part one growling part one accoustic (interlude) part and 1 heavy riff keep those sections in your head, and then trry imaging how you could put all of these so different song parts togeher in one song, I fail at that. and thaen I listen to the song in it's whole, and realize how brilliantly it's done. transiton's from DT growls to the most beautyfull clean vocal parts in 5 seconds. Mikael is awesome :thumb: |
you have some awesome taste for music :thumb:
and I like your approch of looking at lyrics. have some rep+ man! grtz from a fellow Opeth, Porcupine tree, Tool and DT fan ;) ps. are you going to any of the PT concerts?
I will try...I live in Arkansas, its hard to get close to anywhere where PT would play. I think their new album comes out in March? So, I'm hoping Opeth tours with them, like they did for In Absentia. Also, I heard Mike plays guitar on a track for the new PT album...also, Steve ripped off the Face of Melinda riff in Prodigal...in case anyone hadn't seen that. Thanks though man! I love seeing people who love PT, DT, Tool and Opeth!...those 4 are probably my favorite bands of all time! :) You rock, dude :thumb: |

that middle part reeks of Steve Wilson and you can hear him harmonizing with Mike on the "Ahhh" part...to me, its one of my favorite I think my favorite soft part in an Opeth song might be on Still Life with The Moor and Godhead's Lament (Thought I could not leave this place on this immient day...god I love that part) |
yeah steven wilson can sing bloody high, check out how high he sings in the backing vocals in harvest

Seeing as the thread I made on this got ignored, a link to a site with spoilers of the new Porcupine Tree album, which has memebers of the Band OPETH appearing on it. Opeth rox! |
Say hello to Opeth's newest fan!!
Oh god. I can't believe I have been missing out on this band. I agree with you Flynn, they CERTAINLY do deserve their own genre IMO as well. :thumb: I love how several Opeth songs began with hell-raising riffs then tranquilize you with beautiful acoustic then raises your sedated body back with a vengeance(prime example, Masters Apprentice.) I am in love with this band(is that normal?). I only own Deliverance and Blackwater Park but the entire collection is soon to be in my possession. phew...I'm hyperventilating. lol Oh don't mind this offset post...I had skipped about 30 pages. |
hehe up opeth! nice post, rep++:thumb:

New avatar. :) Check it out!

I got mine from smoke dreams on flinders street but of course thats closed up shop now. Im pretty sure you can order from Metal Mayhem. Its worth going up to Heartland near the Vic Markets too they sometimes have opeth shirts and they have so much rare vinyl and metal cds its well worth checking out :thumb: |
i meant order one from melbourne lol but yeah thanks
|
/is very angry with polls
I hope you guys have all voted. GO OPETH |
I voted BWP. Seems like in all these polls they come so close but never win.
|
ive never really been an Opeth fan, i liked a couple of songs i heard. But a couple days ago i picked up Blackwater Park and was so surprised by the talent of this band. Now i'm obbsessed with this album. Once i get more money im definetly picking up some more
thanks guys for getting me informed about Opeth :D |
My Blackwater Park review didn't make it onto the new CD Reviews site.
|
I've been getting into Opeth for a while now. I liked them before, but I fell completely in love with them after seeing my friends Lamentations DVD recently. Ordered Blackwater Park and Morningrise off the internet, I already have Orchid, and soon will get ****ation and Deliverance.
March 21st :D . PT are definatly my favorite band, followed close by Opeth. I REALLY hope they tour together this year. Yes, Mike does do a guitar part for the new PT album |

Just re-post it, that's what they advised anyone who's review didn't get copied over to do. :thumb: |

Still the only Opeth album I don't own... :upset: |
Still Life is the only Opeth I still own...
(My car was stolen with most of my cds in it) |
that sucks cardboard, u insured?
|
That's why I only take about 5 CD's into my car at a time. Just finished learning how to play most of Bleak on my guitar, I'm pretty pumped about that. Certainly needs lots of fine tuning but I have the main body of it down.
|
There are like 4-5 different guitar tracks in this song. I'm in a Opeth cover band and we play Bleak, very cool to play but somtimes I think it fails to deliver (think about that beautiful bass driven riff shortly after the acoustic break).

Yeah, its kinda hard playing it as a single guitarist. I just do my best to kind of blend the parts together. But its a bit impossible at some points so a lot of times its just one part. |

Aye awesome man! What other songs do you guys cover? |
Ok, well since we're on the subject of covering Opeth, the band I'm putting together at San Francisco State is most likely going to cover When. Oh man, I can't wait to sing the end of that infront of an audience, it's fun enough just singing it to myself.
