Hah, cool. How much is $5.99 in British money?
It's about £4. |
EDIT: And thank you too, Tojes, I feel a little better now. It was just very odd seeing my ego (rightly) destroyed and then being offered to jam with Petrucci after the fact.
Perhaps that is a little surreal, but when you get a gift like that, don't question it. |

Ah, you know what the R&M community thread is all about: Sharing love/digital support to our fellow musician friends and discussing gore, the devil, goats, bloodbaths and other cute subjects found in metal. And some Rock. but Mostly metal. |

Goat's cheese. Yeah...gore too. |
Glenn's right. If I'm serious about guitar than there's no excuse for not learning as much as I can in as many ways as I can, even it isn't my primary focus. I've just developed a way of doing things that suits me but does not suit advancement, so I simply have to change, adapt, and grow. That's the whole point. :)
You're starting to catch on. I think that's why everyone should have at least one close teacher or mentor who never once is going to let us get too full of ourselves. On a side note, I had an interesting moment in Scriptwriting class. I've been reworking the outline for Under the Moon, so the second act was a little disorganized, and I was still trying to figure out the best way to get to act III. Well, during the brainstorm session in class to help me out, the Oscars came up. Based original song came up, and none of us could remember what the title was, so we just called it It's Hard to Be a Pimp (title was actually "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp"). At one point, the professor brought up that every movie you write has to have something of you in it, which is what distinguishes good from great. He said, "Like you Alex, I know you're not a werewolf, but..." My friend Brian then quips, "Alex's theme song is 'It's Hard to Be a Werepimp.'" I guess you had to be there, because it doesn't look as funny in print. |
Haha, Cain, you'll make it son, you'll make it.
What I heard of your playing was some of the best amateur playing I've heard. |
Wait...if I'm reading this correctly, people are suing Clay's record labels because they thought he was gay, yet turned out to be straight? Or the other way around, him being straight but really being gay?
What. The. Hell?
They're complaining that he was portrayed as non-gay, when in fact it now looks like he is gay. Saying it violates the trades descriptions act; "equivalent to a company not saying anything on the label of a defective product", or something.
Clay Aiken? /ignorant
American Idol contestant. I didn't know who he was - beyond a name - earlier today either.
I mean, I doubt he'd be a wanker to you and destroy all your guitar playing dreams.
And if he did, you could always earn your fame by being the man who strangled John Petrucci with his own guitar strings.
It's about £4.
Less than that, even. What EP are you talking about? |
"Like you Alex, I know you're not a werewolf, but..."
 You do have a perfectly healthy obsession :p NP-Black Sabbath-TV Crimes
Less than that, even. What EP are you talking about?
Trev's band's EP. |
I've sinced realized I haven't been as good at guitaring as I thought I was either...
I can do rhythm/chord changes/some melodies perfectly fine, but ask me to try and solo over some chord changes, and I can't do it very well. I'm pretty sure that's more of a technical aspect though...it has to do with not being able to move my fingers fast enough in the higher frets. Odd thing is, though, I can play ridiculously fast (well, maybe not ridiculously, but rather fast) in the lower ranges, but not in the high. I don't know what it is... Ben, I never realized Leah was that good at guitar...:smash: |
Well, Lucas, I'm not the greatest guitar player ever, but I play to have fun. When you stop enjoying playing and taking your playing to new areas, then you should stop playing.
IMO, of course :-D |

That's very true as well...guitar should be a fun thing to do, instead of a chore. Have fun with what you do, and don't try to compare yourself to others.
I've since accepted my condition, and I'm fine with it. Sure, I'd like to be better (we all would...even my dad, and he's been playing guitar for 30+ YEARS), but I don't want to kill myself trying to do it. |
Ben, I never realized Leah was that good at guitar...:smash:
I didn't either. It's depressing. :upset: |

I have no misconceptions. I know they "used to be a death metal band" because you've said so thousands of times. And I have heard the older material. |

Seems interesting. Not all movies made in Hollywood are bad, just most. Both Crash and Walk the Line were two really good movies. |

Oh, ok. Definetly rent or buy Crash and Walk The Line. Two top notch movies. Crash will definetly be remembered as a classic (possibly the same will go for Walk the Line). |
Walk the line was a great movie.
What is crash about?
Taken from the International Movie Database: Plot Summary for Crash (2004) Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a black police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the distracted district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful black Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more. |
It's a bunch of interwoven stories dealing with the issue of racism. As with a lot of people, I suspect, I didn't think it deserved to win. But what do I know. I wasn't as acquainted with the nominees this year as I would have liked to been.

Man, you missed the good one though...
"Unfortunately, Bjork couldn't be here tonight; she was trying on her dress, and Dick Cheney shot her."  My mom rented Crash one night, I didn't see much of it...but what I did see, twas quite powerful... |

Chuck Norris is President Bush's favorite actor
that's not a Chuck Norris joke, that's actually true. I was kind of hoping Good Night And Good Luck would win some awards. I haven't seen it but it's about Edward Murrow taking down Joe McCarthy so it's good just on princible. And Martin Lawrence (of Big Momma's House 2) got robbed of Best Actor. |
Hah, Big Momma's house 2 is supposedly one of the most terrible fims ever devised.
NP-Blind Guardian-Mirror, Mirror Bed for me I think. |

Martin Lawrence gained 200 pounds AND underwent a sex-change operation for his role. C'mon, cut the brotha some slack.
finding out funny facts just owns the hell out of memes based on b rate actors.
It is indeed THE single best Chuck Norris fact. And it also gives you a further look inside our President's psyche. I'm not expecting him to be some big Scorcese fan or anything, but the fact remains that he probably spends his Saturdays watching Invasion USA or reruns of "Walker, Texas Ranger". |
Bush is a genius, don't question the workings of that mind!

I question the working of YOUR MOM'S mind! Oh! R&M hasn't had a good "your mom" joke in a while... NP: The Autumn Offering - Revelation Hmm..they're ok. We're playin' with them so I won't talk no smack :p |
