Hm, that's quite tough. I agree with Reach Out but apart from that i can't really think of any Maiden that you could say was 'Stadium Rock'.

PAJJ 06-09-2006 12:00 PM

Can't really think of any, but maybe Bring Your Daughter, or Run to the Hills, i think that's probably the closet but nothing really stadium rock, i think Fear of the Dark would probably work, but a bit long.

Rattlehead 06-09-2006 03:02 PM

been listening to Powerslave alot of late. great album.

NP: Back In The Village

great song. RotAM is sooo great.

It's the greatest song ever.

the_uber_penguin 06-09-2006 06:35 PM

I guess RTTH has the advantage that most people will know it.

PAJJ 06-09-2006 06:58 PM

yeah i think that's what you want from a stadium rock/cover band, not much point doing a song that no-one apart from fans will know, i still think BYDtTS as it was maiden only no 1 single

Lord Abortion 06-10-2006 02:11 AM
The Trooper is easily by far the easiest Maiden song.

Most of the Songs on SSOASS however... :p
Yeah, the trooper is fun to cover.

I think Back in the village is pretty uderrated song.
*points to location message*

in other news
Watching bruce introduce people to the seventh tour of a seventh tour of maiden to the crowd at donnington '88 really makes me wish i had been a teen durring the '80s
the videos on youtube somewhere

ashman 06-10-2006 06:00 AM

The Duellist is another oarsome song from that album :)

Mikesn 06-10-2006 08:42 AM

Flash of the Blade, The Duellists, and Back in the Village are all underrated.

Surtr 06-10-2006 09:01 AM
I suggest Rainmaker. The riff to that is very fun.

Or The Fallen Angel.

And the solos in Paschendale aren't that hard, except for Jannick's, but I've found you can normally get away with fake-shredding his solos...it's what he does live.

So when I go to University, I'm going to start a stadium-rock-cover band (probably going to be called Epica, but we might call ourselves The Penguins Of Doom instead) Anyway, I was talking to the bassist for that and we were trying to chose our Iron Maiden cover...it was really wierd...couldn't really pick one which was a "stadium rock" in the same way I Believe In A Thing Called Love (The Darkness) or It's My Life (Bon Jovi) are... (we discluded the the "epics from that, since we'd mostly have a half-hour set list, and 6 or 7 minutes is too long to dedicate to one song out of that)

Any help or suggestions?
Epica is already a band...:p
Flash of the Blade, The Duellists, and Back in the Village are all underrated.
That whole album is the most solid album maiden has ever made. All killer no filler. Not a bad track on there.

Surtr 06-10-2006 10:38 AM

I like Powerslave..But I have a problem with Flash Of The Blade..Great song, don't get me wrong, but it's lacking at a few points.
I like Powerslave..But I have a problem with Flash Of The Blade..Great song, don't get me wrong, but it's lacking at a few points.
Yeah, I was never big on that or The Duellist. Its still one of my all time favorite Maiden albums, though.

crag 06-10-2006 11:18 AM

Its a really strong album. Personally i think 23:58 is the weakest song on it.

Surtr 06-10-2006 07:17 PM

I'd say Flash Of The Blade or The Duellist have to be the weakest songs.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-10-2006 08:37 PM

I agree.

I find Flash of the Blade to be a pretty good song.

Surtr 06-10-2006 09:52 PM

Well..It's good, but it's one of the weaker ones. The intro is cool though.

-The Frank 06-10-2006 10:24 PM

I find them all great songs.

pep 06-10-2006 11:54 PM

I like the Flash of the Blade chorus. Bruce's voice sounds really good.

JamJar 06-11-2006 03:05 AM

Flash Of The Blade is amazing. I love the harmonzed instrumental section.

I also realized how much SSOASS owns yesterday. I think it's overtaken Powerslave as my favourite Maiden album.

Apocalyptic Raids 06-11-2006 03:22 AM

SSOASS has always been my favourite.

Lord Abortion 06-11-2006 06:33 AM

I prefer Flash of the blade to pretty much everything on there, apart from ROTAM and Aces High.

JamJar 06-11-2006 06:37 AM

My order on that album is probably:

ROTAM > Aces High > Powerslave > Flash Of The Blade > 11:58 > Back In The Village > Losfer' Words > The Duellists

It's my second favourite Maiden album. So damn good.

crag 06-11-2006 06:43 AM

RotAM > Powerslave > BitV > Aces High > Duellists > FotB > Losfer Words > 23:58

:)

Lord Abortion 06-11-2006 06:46 AM

ROTAM>Aces High>FOTB>Powerslave>The Duellists>11:58>Back in the village>Losfer words

Josh 06-11-2006 07:43 AM

all of Powerslave pwns, although IMO The Duellists is the weakest song on there.
i may edit my mp3s of Back in the Village and Powerslave so that the evil intro and drumroll are part of Powerslave when it cycles up on my mp3 player, but i don't really think i can be arsed.

PAJJ 06-11-2006 07:46 AM

Aces High > 2MTM > Powerslave > ROTAM > BitV > Duellists > FotB > Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)

SSoaSS pwns live.

Quick poll

Which Live cd should i get?

Deth 06-11-2006 08:41 PM

Live After Death or Rock in Rio. I would go LAD myself.

Mikesn 06-11-2006 09:18 PM

For Powerslave I'd say...

Powerslave > Aces High > Rime of the Ancient Marriner > 2MtM > Flash of the Blade > Back in the Village > The Duellists

I'd go for Live After Death. Of all the live albums, it has my favourite tracks on it. Really, depends what era of Maiden you prefer the most, I guess. That's how I would chose anyways...

pep 06-11-2006 09:53 PM

I bought A Real Live/Dead One instead of LAD and im regretting that decision. If Wasted Years appeared on ARL/DO i wouldnt be regretting it though.

live after death or death on the road.

But im a bit biased considering i bought the death on the road dvd last night.
You really cant go wrong with any maiden live cd, except for a real live/dead one. The rest are all ace.:thumb:

Number of the Beast is my favourite album

JamJar 06-12-2006 01:01 AM

Get Live After Death but if you're after a DVD, get Rock In Rio.

666Ozzfan 06-12-2006 05:11 AM

Rock In Rio is a great DVD. Even if it's just to have some background noise while you're doing something else

-The Frank 06-12-2006 08:56 AM

Today i was thinking how great it would be for the next maiden tour if they chose 'the edge of darkness' as the blaze-era song they would play live. It just sounds like a kick *** live song
