That kid is awesome.

Crysiss 10-20-2006 10:00 AM

I do that face when I air drum^^. Thats how good I am at it.

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 11:06 AM

I've never heard of anyone yawning when they are air drumming, maybe when its really boring but then again air drumming is never boring.

On a different note I fell asleep last night listening to Orchid, which was cool cause I've never really considered it a sleepy time album.

pate 10-20-2006 11:43 AM

Air drumming is awesome. Anyone who says otherwise is not awesome.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-20-2006 12:00 PM

That face could easily be mistaken for 'metal' face, guys, give him a break. :p

I do a bit of air drumming while I'm driving. Mostly I just try and do a mock job at imitating Danny Carey's fills on my steering wheel.

TojesDolan 10-20-2006 12:12 PM

I air bass drum a lot. I play a lot of air instruments.

Trombone mostly.

Neoteric 10-20-2006 12:14 PM
They are a must have. This topic reminds of a kid in my elementary school who would set up a drum kit with his pencil box and binder etc and use pencils to drum all throughout class.
I used to do that! Ah, great times.

I do that

lightningmetal666 10-20-2006 01:29 PM

I know a guy that's building a drumset out of 5 gallon paint containers and sh*t. He doesn't sound too bad on them.

I'm not that bad at air drumming, depending on what I'm playing.

metalhead_matt 10-20-2006 01:45 PM

how do you guys pronounce opeth btw?

Daven 10-20-2006 01:46 PM

O-peth.

Ithink.

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 01:57 PM

Sounds kinda like a cheap Stomp rip off to me. Air drumming while driving is good, but braking to the beat of the music is better.

Stoo 10-20-2006 01:59 PM

I say O-peth.

Others say O-Pith...

They suck.

Eliminator 10-20-2006 02:00 PM

it's pronounced o-peth

i used to say o-pith but that's when i jerked off little boys

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 02:02 PM

I know one guy who pronounces it like the word opus except with eth instead of us.

Stoo 10-20-2006 02:03 PM

like...Awpeth?

Edit; I dunno. Buh.

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 02:06 PM

Yeah pretty much like that. Its kinda hard to describe via interwebz and it also kinda depends on how people pronounce opus.

Eliminator 10-20-2006 02:07 PM

so is he some fudgepacker with a lisp?

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 02:08 PM

Lisp: I suppose you could say that
Anal Rapist: Hopefully not

Stoo 10-20-2006 02:08 PM

I wonder if any tards pronounce it Awpith.

Eliminator 10-20-2006 02:09 PM

"awwww PITH"

".. what happened"

"i'm talking abuot the band you thdupid hed!"

Stoo 10-20-2006 02:12 PM

1st guy: "Aww Pith"

2nd guy: "What's Piss?"

3rd guy: "No dude he doesn't have a lisp"

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-20-2006 02:12 PM

I go with OH-peth. Works for me.

beso negro 10-20-2006 02:54 PM

I have always pronounced it as O-peeth

sonicst0rm 10-20-2006 02:59 PM
Air drumming is awesome. My dormroom has a tile floor, so I get a nice loud bass sound. Sometimes I'll take two spoons or something as my sticks and drum on various books for different sounds. :p Good times.
Today in physics class we started a whole class drum cirlce, it was so cool. everyone was tapping things like pencils, text books, feet, desks

then i started tapping a 5/8 beat really loud and everyone got confuzzled, it sounded cool though with like 8 kids doing it. those are so fun to start.

denboy 10-20-2006 03:10 PM

"We are Oh-peth" - Mikael.. And I'm sure he knows how to pronounce his own bandname

Duman 10-20-2006 03:32 PM
like...Awpeth?

Edit; I dunno. Buh.
The way I imagine that sounds so Mikael-ish.

I just say 'Oh-peth'.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-20-2006 04:02 PM
"We are Oh-peth" - Mikael.. And I'm sure he knows how to pronounce his own bandname
Psh, he can't even spell his own name right though! :p

metalhead_matt 10-20-2006 04:06 PM

yeah, i was just having a debtae bout it lol
so O-peth(peth rhythm with beth)
excellent

TojesDolan 10-20-2006 04:27 PM
"We are Oh-peth" - Mikael.. And I'm sure he knows how to pronounce his own bandname
My thoughts exactly.

It's on the DVD so there's proof of it.

Det_Nosnip 10-20-2006 05:14 PM
I know they all line up, I'm just saying I just think of them as notes and dotted notes. I don't know, I'm a piano player more so than a drummer even though I play them, so I don't really worry about values as much as a drummer would. It just bugged me when you said "triplet feel" rather than "swing feel" because I've never heard anybody, even my jazz instructors refer to them as triplets.
That's funny, because I hear it pretty much interchangeably and have always been told to think of it that way. Honestly, it kind of scares me that someone could get into a position where they are a "jazz instructor" and not at least know to emphasis the triplet base, but maybe guitar or piano teachers can get away with it.

Eliminator 10-20-2006 05:16 PM

So I really need to get My Arms, Your Hearse after listening to some of it.

BurningSky 10-20-2006 05:19 PM
So I really need to get My Arms, Your Hearse after listening to some of it.
I can send it to you, if you want. Do you have AIM..?

Eliminator 10-20-2006 05:19 PM

haha two people say that within like ten minutes

yeah just look in my forum profile or something

i'm going to buy it eventually tho

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 05:47 PM
So I really need to get My Arms, Your Hearse after listening to some of it.
MAYH isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be. It is definately a good album, but like many Opeth albums abit overrated. It doesn't really stand up to Orchid or Still Life.

Eliminator 10-20-2006 05:49 PM

Well I don't like Orchid, so..

Stoo 10-20-2006 05:49 PM

I think it takes a little longer to grow on some people.

beso negro 10-20-2006 05:52 PM

MAYH is easy to get into. "April Ethereal", "Amen Corner", "Demon on the Fall" and "When" are all actually rather accessable tracks. I liked them all the first time I heard them.

Stoo 10-20-2006 05:54 PM

The 2 Opeth albums I found easiest to get into were the first 2 I bought;
Blackwater Park then Ghost Reveries.

Apocalypticon 10-20-2006 05:54 PM
I think it takes a little longer to grow on people.
Because its a flower right :p

Anyway yeah I guess its abit more inaccesible, but it is still super good. I don't get what people don't like about it. It has all the perfect Opeth elements, without being over the top like some of the later releases. And anyone who doesn't like Still Life is just plain dumb.
