Sick man.

katana_manatee 10-07-2010 10:59 AM
Doing pretty well. Just finishing up the last month of my current lease and prepping to move into the parents' rental house. Doing the full-time work/part-time school thing, right now, but I've been approved for some student loans, so it's back to school full-time in the Spring.

How could you forget about us, ass-wipe?
Nice one man, how long you got left of your degree now?

Basically, because I'm an ass-wipe. :p

I'm at college just now, though it is a little different from what you guys in the States term a college. In the US, university and college are terms which are more or less interchangeable, while in Britain a college is usually an educational institution which is somewhere between school and university degree level, or is a constituent part of a university.

I'm studying Highers (type of Scottish qualification equivalent to final year of high school level subjects in the US) in Biology, Psychology and Modern Studies (basically politics) and am hoping to go to Sheffield University in England to do Japanese. I need three As and hopefully I'll be able to get in.

About 2 years left if I spend all my time on the math degree, but I can likely get both the math and physics degrees done in 3 years. Not terrible.

College here in America has a few meanings. Generally, a college is considered to be the first two years (aka lower division) of a university. But then, universities do this thing where they have different "colleges" within the university (John S Grant College of Medicine, WP Carey College of Business, etc) and it's basically a fancy, useless term that defines your degree requirements.

Best of luck to you, good sir. I think you have the right mindset for collegiate life and will truly appreciate and benefit from it.

Aside from the scholastic life, what else has been up? Anything in the musical forefront?

Ah, so that is how the word college is used in the US. In the UK we don't tend to think of having say a lower division at a university, it is simply thought of as 1st year, 2nd year etc. Like in the States though we do have different "colleges" within universities, like King's College which is a part of the University of Cambridge if I remember rightly, but students would always describe themselves as university students.

Thanks a lot man, I really look forward to proper university life, I have matured greatly since my days at the Bass Institute, I think I have a much better mindset for it now rather than being Mr. Party-Time as I was before...

Musically I have become somewhat stagnant unfortunately. I've still been jamming on and off with people but I've not tried to get into any bands or anything like that and stopped playing much for quite a while. I've now got a little regime going of bass playing and acoustic playing though, so I am getting back into it. Learning some Preston Reed stuff just now, just about finished learning Tractor Pull, just need to polish it up a bit. The main thing I suppose is to always be learning something.

What about yourself, you in any bands just now?

gaslight 10-07-2010 09:20 PM

Funniest thing I've noticed after going to uni is that after you've tried to teach, you gain a much better appreciation of how you could have been a much better student yourself.

funkyhoney 10-08-2010 01:50 AM

So, I thought I could get my brother a birthday present at JB after work. Evidently it closes the same time my work does. That sucks.

About the same here. I've played a few benefit shows this year with various local groups (tax write-off AND it looks like badass volunteer service for scholarship applications). Other than that, after my 1-2 year stint with Cycles of Surrealism ended, the music scene just kind of stopped for me. It's given me a chance to focus on school and work, though, so there is an upside to things. I still play my basses on occasion, try to help out on the forums (both here and TB), and do some electronics/refinishing work in my spare time (which is increasingly lacking lately).

At the very least, working on craigslist guitars and basses will always be a hobby of mine. Every one presents a unique challenge and I can usually flip them for some sort of profit.

Aww man, that's the coolest way to ramp up volunteer hours I've ever heard!

funkyhoney 10-11-2010 12:23 AM

So my band got a dance remix done by some cat out of LA. It's pretty cool.

gaslight 10-11-2010 04:18 AM

Haha.

Let's hear it?

I can give you a link to a YSI file but it's not going on myspace of FB for a while I think. We got a sweet royalty deal though.

funkyhoney 10-11-2010 05:32 AM

PS what's your email? So I can t3h send it.

http://www.myspace.com/riverstonehaze

Familiarise yourself with 'drive on' first.

gaslight 10-11-2010 06:36 AM

What kind of royalty deal?

funkyhoney 10-11-2010 06:50 AM

70/30 split our way.

gaslight 10-11-2010 07:49 AM

Pretty sweet if he ends up selling it at all.

funkyhoney 10-11-2010 08:12 AM

Apparently he played it at some show 'last night' and it got a good reaction. We got an SMS telling us as much anyway. So we shall see. I could use some free money.

gaslight 10-11-2010 09:07 AM

Make sure he sets you up with the links for people to buy the download of it, then all you have to do is whore the link as much as possible.

FunkMetalBass 10-11-2010 05:00 PM

Is it pathetic that I want these?

I'm not ready to gauge my ears yet, but it'd be cool to have them for on-stage and just to see, in general, if I wanted gauges.

gaslight 10-11-2010 08:47 PM

Yeah save your money they're gay.

Logo of the site should be a warning :p.

gaslight 10-11-2010 09:03 PM

Haha shit, have you ever seen those drinks in a store?

They sell them up the road.

They terrify me.

Convectuoso 10-11-2010 10:32 PM

They are pretty creepy I admit.

They had a special last week at the supermarket, like 99c for a 6 pack (was expiring soon). Got like 4 packs, I think I am slowly developing diabetes.

funkyhoney 10-11-2010 10:50 PM

They don't even taste good.

Sablate McNuff 10-12-2010 12:05 AM

They look like they are about three seconds away from killing me and feasting on my blood.

gaslight 10-12-2010 01:42 AM

They're not meant to be good really.

My understanding of it is that they are a really creepy to get children to drink fruit juice, or something vaguely claiming to be fruit juice, by making it look like an energy drink and covering it with cringeworthy internet references.

Or, you know, parents could just do it the old-fashioned way:

That's how I learned to drink all of my juice.

gaslight 10-12-2010 09:06 AM

I'll stop fucking hitting you when you stop fucking crying

FunkMetalBass 10-12-2010 11:19 AM

I don't understand why kids wont drink juices and stuff. There are easily 9 million varieties and brands that are all sweetened beyond reason and taste f**king delicious.

gaslight 10-12-2010 02:30 PM

I think freshly squeezed orange juice tastes the best, everyone should enjoy it.

Simpleton 10-12-2010 02:33 PM

BLAHHHH BLAHHH BLAHHH JUICCCCCEE LOL ha drink my semen.
