Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, Nothing(remastered) and Catch Thirty-Three. Those are the other Meshuggah albums I have.
Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, Nothing(remastered) and Catch Thirty-Three. Those are the other Meshuggah albums I have.
So what, it sounds like a general mix of their past material?

publicastration 01-22-2008 10:39 AM

lol wait I thought you meant which releases am I comparing it to.

Um, it's actually pretty different, I would say maybe the best comparison would be Nothing, but imagine that with 10x the energy, and thrashier at times.

If by thrashy you mean a degree of DEI vibe, I'm sold.

publicastration 01-22-2008 10:46 AM

Yep.

The songs are quicker paced on the whole, and even the more mid tempo ones have energy if you know what I mean.

And the first track is awesome, it's pretty much a straight up Meshuggah-ized thrash track.

the2stranger 01-22-2008 10:49 AM

If you want thrashy Meshuggah, get ther first full length.
Great stuff.

Nebulous is quite a slow track on Nothing and one of my favorites.

OMG extreme post-thrash discussion in the death heads thread. :p

Toaster 01-22-2008 11:45 AM

Meshuggah have forgotten how to write a fast-paced song :(

seriously fast-paced does not mean you hit the snare more times per minute, riffs and vocal patterns have to do with it also. Jens puts forth his most plodding patterns yet

the album sounds VERY slow to me besides combustion and pravus. i would compare it to catch 33 and I. I hear almost no chaosfear or DEI.

^ yeah Nebulous is slow but damn that song is good

RetiredAt21 01-22-2008 01:40 PM

I don't like Meshuggah.

pate 01-22-2008 01:42 PM

I like Catch 33 and some of Nothing.
I don't like Meshuggah.
i like only two songs by them

in death is life
in death is death

RetiredAt21 01-22-2008 01:45 PM

Are Meshuggah considered death metal?

combustion07 01-22-2008 01:46 PM

I don't consider them death.

repcak 01-22-2008 01:47 PM

repcak 01-22-2008 01:53 PM

beans 01-22-2008 02:30 PM

combustion07 01-22-2008 02:31 PM

I just call them metal.

beans 01-22-2008 02:41 PM

yeah, they remind me of math metal with thier lyrics and stuff, but im not sure if thats where to stick them either. yeah id just classify them as metal

Dies Irae 01-22-2008 02:42 PM

i wish i knew how to write math metal lyrics

Toaster 01-22-2008 03:07 PM

so does anyone want to discuss Meshuggah's new album without either sucking their dicks madly or being asinine

the2stranger 01-22-2008 03:24 PM

Meshuggah = extreme post-thrash. :)

I'm willing to dicuss them.
As I said before, I was really disapointed with Catch 33.
Everything before that was sweet, really enjoyed it.
But Catch 33, the songwriting and the lack of real drums really made me dislike it.

But I'm really open minded about the new release, I will prbably first download it and might buy it if it's good.
I can't lsiten to them all the time anymore though, like I used to do some years ago.
But every now and then, hell yeah, powerful crazy music and the lyrics are great too, although sometimes a bit to semi philosophical for its own good.

It's really solid and good.

beans 01-22-2008 04:19 PM

im hoping its going to be good, i really didnt like catch-33 it was ultra boring.
do you have it luc?

combustion07 01-22-2008 04:21 PM

I was kind of bored with catch 33 but in small doses its not bad IMO.

Toaster 01-22-2008 04:23 PM

I dunno how i feel about it yet actually. its good and bad, namely 6, 7 and 8 are brutally bad but the rest is good

some of the riffs sound like theyre making fun of meshuggah sort of, like pravus is just garbage
]\
i loved catch 33 at first but i can't stand listening to it anymore

combustion07 01-22-2008 04:24 PM

When is this coming out?
I can't find a download anywhere.
