string theory is like...the frontier of all frontiers in science.
concepts of tiny energy packets vibrating as strings...multiple universes, 15 or so dimensions etc. wild stuff.

im thinking pre-med. is it a lot of work?

Tyler 02-02-2006 01:20 AM

I got my old join date back!

<3 DBJ!

Leper 02-02-2006 01:20 AM

I'm very proud to say that somehow I came away with a 62% in both grade 11 and grade 12 Physics.:)

Tyler 02-02-2006 01:22 AM

I failed grade 10 science. I did it in summer school, passed and never looked back. Me and Science/Math do not get along.
Well, the pre-med track at JHU means I'd be taking basic Physics in Junior year :-(

*sigh*

In other ways, being pre-med is quite awesome :-)
Heh, yeah...you may have some trouble working up the pre-reqs for advanced Physics courses then heh.

Eh, I never really "got" pre- professional programs. I don't know why you'd not just get a regular degree. But then I was never interested in law/medicine so I never looked far into it.

Especially because I know I could still get into med/law school with my degree if it so tickled my fancy.

Nah, it's not at the forefront as much. It's a few years old and getting well-known in the science circles. I know I've read several articles about it, in HS. On the other hand, my Physics prof last year was working on the first steps towards a quantum computer. That stuff can blow your mind. Instead of storing a 0 or 1 in each bit, it stores an unknown value that you can't see, but you can use. It's insane.

I got like ~93% both sems of AP Physics  I think I was one of...3 or so A's in all the classes :D

Leper 02-02-2006 01:34 AM

Yeah I'm in the same boat with not getting along with Math/Science. But I took Physics because I needed at least 1 science to get into University, and it seemed like it'd be the most interesting (which was very incovenient for me considering it involves more math than biology or chemistry).

See, I much prefer Physics to Bio or Chem, though I am rather bad at Math tbh. I'm very reliant on my calculator hehe. Bio is like ugh. I haven't taken it since 4th grade.

But this is something Im actually good at! :(

I am getting a regular, albeit ultra awesome, degree (Neuroscience \M/).

The whole meaning of a pre-med or pre-law focus is that it just tells you what classes you'll need to take to fulfil medical or law school requirements.
Especially because I know I could still get into med/law school with my degree if it so tickled my fancy.
Really? How will you fit all the med school requirements into your engineering profile?

I would've been reliant on my calculator as well, but half the time I didn't know what to put in it.

Well ok, I suppose a brief look of smugness will be acceptable.

Oh...hmm. Eh, being an engineer it's almost hypocritical to say this, but I always saw it as too focused. Like, even with my engineering degree, I could literally work in almost any field, it's just very flexible. Although I know what I'd like to do, it's nice to have the flexibility. Even if it's one of the harder "4-year" (most do 5 nowadays though) degrees.

From what I understand, if I wanted to go into a professional degree program like that, I'd get accepted, but need to do some more remedial courses first. Although like I said, I've no interest in doing it so I'm not well-researched on it. But I am under the impression I am able to apply this degree towards applying to med/law school.
I would've been reliant on my calculator as well, but half the time I didn't know what to put in it.

Haha, it's great. I'm in these Junior/Senior level courses and these guys are doing pages of work to solve a problem, I write a few equations, put them in the calculator and solve like 3 problems per page. It drives them crazy.

oh ok

i'd never be an engineer

could never be happy with doing so much work in school for so little money

yeah you could do that but the fast track remedial programs are insanely difficult to even survive

So much work? Au contraire. I do less work in uni than I ever did in HS. I'm taking 17 credit hours (which is supposed to be death by itself) this sem plus doing honors coursework in 2 of the classes. I spend an hour or two on homework each week, except when I have a lab write up, which is generally 4+ hours by itself.

Besides, it pays enough :)

Haha, well, like the above...I'm not used to working hard. I have a....unique...learning style that enables me to attend classes and usually have little to no outside learnng to do.

Leper 02-02-2006 01:52 AM

I'd be one of those guys if I was in your class, with one exception..rather than getting frustrated, I'd just copy off you lol.

Nah, engineers are a silly bunch. They always try to get me to explain it, and so I teach them how I do the problems, and they never get it :( They always add like a million more steps and it's so pointless.

I wish they would just copy, but they want to learn and understand :-\

Leper 02-02-2006 02:03 AM

Pssht, as if they'll ever get anywhere that way..

Friggin MORONS!!

i won this ebay auction for a digitech whammy on ebay (140 with shipping). I sent payment on January 27th, and they tell me TODAY that they have "paypal" problems, and that i need to cancel payment.

It appears that the canceled the payment, and they want me to send a check or money order.

What do you guys think I should do? Just say fuk it?

Stoic 02-02-2006 07:30 AM

since you've already sent the money, well yeah!
since you've already sent the money, well yeah!
i checked my paypal this morning, and theres a CANCEL TRANSFER on there. Considering the confusing nature of paypals statements, I do believe they have in fact sent that money back to my card.

Im going to call the credit card company during my lunch hour to verify that I have received those funds back

Aww, I missed all the good discussion. :(

To summarise; Large breasts are more interesting than small breasts in general, because A = boring.

Tattoos can be hot, confer Angelina Jolie or the video clip for my favourite game. =) Piercings can be nice too, like a nose button or whatever it's called, as a rule, if it doesn't go into the realms of excessiveness and it suits the girl, it's fine.

Bodytypes, heh, depends on the girl, attractive is attractive, I say, too skinny or too fat is not attractive though, obviously.

Threesomes seem like a nice idea, but I don't know. God knows I've tried. :upset:

To whomever wrote "your dreaming" on his hand: You're gonna dream about bad grammar.

Umm, evolution, yeah, it's pretty foolish to ignore the evidence.

As for atheism, I don't think it's the right state of mind, because even there is no adequate evidence for the existence of God, the same can be said about God (or a higher creature, if you wish) not existing. I suppose it's more logical to not believe in something that is not verifiable, but still, atheist is such a strong word. Why be against something that you don't believe to exist in the first place.

That's why not caring or not knowing is the best and the most rational thing to do, agnostic all the way.

He's not even that good of a screamer is what's funny.

I think it would be funny to see someone like Angela Gossow go on just to get a few kicks by seeing what the general American public considers entertainment.

superpeer 02-02-2006 10:14 AM

Wow, what a homosexual, too hardcore, yeaaah. People like that need a punch in the nose. I'm glad I don't watch any of the Idol things, Belgian or American or anything else, bah!

Steerpike 02-02-2006 10:16 AM

I'm not sure, but I think he got that tone by using the Dani Filth technique of inhaling and vocalizing at once. Bad idea. One mistake is all it would take to paralyze your vocal chords.

Interesting. I don't see why he's even bothering with American Idol though, surely he knows they wont accept him. I've seeen it done loads of times before.
