Got some good supplies at the music store today.
Can't wait to see how these 2Bs feel on a kit . |
I just posted a "new song" thread. Go and check it out if you're interested.
I almost banged a chick once that had her conch done.
Then I thought it was probably a bad idea, because she was obviously into more pain than I could have dished out, being that I'm only mortal. I had 4 piercings in my tongue, and the venoms (the two side tongue piercings) were the worst. I bled for 2 days because of them, like spitting out mouthfuls every few hours. I guess one of them hit a capillary. I now just have one piercing in my tongue and both of my eyebrows. I've considered gauging my ears to a 6 or an 8, but haven't done it....yet.
I had my eyebrow, took it out a while ago. Now have anti-tragus, industrial, inner conch and helix. Conch hurt like a muthafucka. Anti-tragus didn't hurt that much but the sound of "crunch-pop!" is unsettling. |

Conch was still the most painful thing I've voluntarily submitted myself too. |
Ironically I just found this image of one of the most painful things I've involuntarily submitted myself too.

My ex had over 20 ear piercings o_O And the one after that had at least a dozen. Neither of them complained about them hurting though, they both just complained they couldn't fit earphones in anymore ¬_¬
|
I complain I can't get earphone in anymore. Luckily headphones offer better sound quality and combat against hearing loss.
|
Oo, that brings up a silly question... I remember reading or hearing somewhere that wearing earphones increases the bacteria in your ears by a ridiculous amount. Is that the case with headphones as well?
rockin' my headphones right meow  |

I don't really like headphones. You have to spend more to get decent ones in my experience, and they have way more spill, which isn't good when you're on a bus or something. They can be a bit intrusive sometimes, and it's all but impossible to listen to only use one headphone at a time - I quite frequently have only one earphone in so I can hear what's going on around me, or when I'm at work. It's probably an endless debate though :p

Christ, lost my net connection for a while, got busy and totally forgot about this place.
Hey people, I have returned from the grave of real life. Hey Chris, long time no see. Heard some of the recent Mae's Lost Empire stuff, you guys are getting incredible these days man. I may be at Sheffield Uni next year too so I'll probably catch you live someday. |
steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve
come hang in sheffield. jamie's here too now! hardly seen him though :( |
Sheff will be at the top of the list for my UCAS choices. I hear they have a beast of a Japanese degree. Just hope I get accepted, back at college doing some more Highers (roughly equivalent to AS Levels). Hopefully I will get 3 As then they will take the A from my Music Higher into account... Sheff seems like a cool place man.
We should definitely meet up if I end up down there. What you up to these days? |
I heard that Sheffield uni had a good Japanese department a while ago, but I'm not sure who from and and I'm not sure how reliable that is. However, our combined information seems to show positive correlation. That's probably a good sign.
I think the entry requirements are a bit more relaxed for mature students anyway, so you might not need to go too overboard on the other qualifications. Wouldn't take my word for it though D: Not doing too much at the moment bro. Just working 5 day weeks and doing music in the spare time. We're training a new drummer up at the moment, so we can't even tour or anything even though our album's just come out :/ |
I hear the drop-out rate is two thirds for the Japanese degree though, it is apparently pretty hardcore intensive! This info was from a guy on the course. But, it is meant to be a damn good department with good connections.
I should hopefully be okay, the lovely lady at admissions seemed to think I'd be fine. I need at least 3 As and a B for Highers to get in. Already have ABBBC, so getting 3 As this year should sort it. Ooft, sounds like it will take a bit training up a drummer with the kind of stuff your band does! I bet you're itching to tour, any chance of a Scottish tour in the nearish future? |
It's looking unlikely we'll be out playing shows until the new year I think. We could play before then, but it would still be rough round the edges, and we want to get back out there just as good as (if not better than) before, so it's worth taking the time over it. We do want to get more widespread gigs going on though, and I'd love to do Scotland. Our friends in Flatlands have been up there a couple of times and they love it there. We've got vague plans for a 10 day stint in Europe around March or something too, but we'll have to see about that one. The world is our oyster :)
You've been into Japanese for a little while though now, right? I imagine you'll have a headstart over some of the people starting it from scratch - I suppose it's probably those people who end up dropping out? |

Scotland is supposedly a good place to play gigs in, haven't been to many gigs outside of Scotland so I couldn't really say of any differences on average crowd temperament, though we are quite open to good music up here and usually very friendly. I got sidetracked from learning Japanese for quite a while though, thought I was gonna do Norwegian instead but realised there is more money in Japanese and I can learn Norwegian in my spare time with help from my mum. I am working towards the lowest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test in December, hopefully I can manage to pass it and it will give me a heads up over most but that said, it gets pretty mental on the degree apparently. It has some of the highest workloads for degrees out there, almost same league of work involved as for doing a Law degree from a good uni. Couple that with the fact you need to actively communicate with what you learn, a lot of people's heads just explode. I only hope mine won't. |
Well you're obviously genuinely interested in doing it, and you've got at least a bit of proficiency in it, so you're setting yourself up right I reckons :) Do you do facebook? I tried looking for you a minute ago, but there are too many people with your name :(
|
no, wait, totally found you.

Joe! Hey man, good to see you are still on here. Totally forgot about this place for so long, I just remembered about this place yesterday and I was like holy shit! How you doing man? What you up to these days? |

How you doing man? What you up to these days?
Doing pretty well. Just finishing up the last month of my current lease and prepping to move into the parents' rental house. Doing the full-time work/part-time school thing, right now, but I've been approved for some student loans, so it's back to school full-time in the Spring. How could you forget about us, ass-wipe? |
Hey Joe do you know anything about axial, tangential and/or oblique modes?
I need to make a tally of all the modes below a certain frequency. And I figured that you know if an axial is just between to parallel surfaces, it just needs 1 figure in one of those boxes. Then Tangential is 4 surfaces, so like two figures would mean tangential and three figures would be oblique (which is six surfaces). But like, that same logic doesn't apply once you get to like 121.4Hz where there are four figures. Gah acoustics is balls. |

Yeah I figured as much but it was worth a shot :p
Ah sorry the columns were length width and height. Yes I think it's a combination, I'll figure it out though. |

so it turns out that guy from youtube was actually legit
he mods the game jedi knight academy (into a standalone) and offered payment based on song, or to recommend me to other paying jobs for game sound we're talking more via email pretty cool |
That's sick. Hope it works out for you, holmes.
