Are you dead yet and Bastards of Bodom are my favorite off the new CD.

GenuineImitation 05-03-2006 06:12 PM

Are you Dead Yet is probably my favorite song as well.

MRDuCran 05-03-2006 06:26 PM

I always though the verse was too bland to be Bodom, the intro riff is good though. I much prefer We're Not Gonna Fall and In Your Face.

Lil’ Bloodred Ridin’ Hood 05-03-2006 06:27 PM

They said that everyones favorite seems to be Bastards Of Bodom

Ahh I wasnt thinking, I forgot We're Not gonna fall. We're not gonna fall is my all time favorite from all the CDs, although its pretty short and I dislike shorter songs.

I joined for ye, though. Be grateful and stop advertising, you greedy sonofabitch! <3

Anyway, I'm learning Bodom Beach Terror right now on guitar. It's nothing special, but a fun little tune.

Bass owns you. :D

I love bass; even more so than guitar, but both are quite a good time.

Crysiss 05-04-2006 12:15 PM

I like playing bass more then guitar, I like the sound of guitar more. But I like the feel of bass.

/takes up bass instead

blue3 05-04-2006 12:24 PM

I like playing guitar much more than bass.

MRDuCran 05-04-2006 02:34 PM

Me too.

/guitar

if you find two different tabs of a song, do you choose the easier one or the harder one? i found two tabs of Trilogy (Yngwie Malmsteen) and don't know which one i should learn now. :p

awesome Trilogy version -> orchestra version

MRDuCran 05-04-2006 03:18 PM

Link me to both tabs, I'll see which one I'll think looks the most accurate.

repcak 05-04-2006 03:24 PM

its the first one - the easy one

hard as hell

Squirrel 05-04-2006 03:48 PM

meh, trilogy suite is boring and not crazy hard

Crysiss 05-04-2006 04:08 PM

I thought it was a pretty cool song:)

Squirrel 05-04-2006 04:10 PM

boooooooooooooooooooooooooooring

Crysiss 05-04-2006 04:13 PM

Man dont be an ***. You already said its boring, no need to say it again just because someone thought it was cool.

A-S-S-H-A-T 05-04-2006 04:13 PM

I've stopped relying on tabs to learn a song. I find it much more accurate when I sound a song out by ear. Plus, since it's a slow process, by the time you get the whole song figured out you pretty much got it mastered. It could be a little hard for stuff by shredders like Yngwie, but yeah, with everything else, it's better to learn on your own.

MRDuCran 05-04-2006 04:14 PM
its the first one - the easy one

hard as hell
Well there's not that much difference in the two, but the second tab is more accurate overall.

For the first main theme, it's the bit that says "alternative fingering" above, that's the 2 bars that are correct, then the open G string bit is all right.

The section after is pretty much perfect.

The first tab has many mistakes and position imperfections.

repcak 05-04-2006 04:27 PM

i think i will take the easier one... in the second one, there are these speed-changes for a very short time; it would be too hard for me... i just want to learn the intro, not the whole song for fun.
there are other songs i want to focus on and who are more important for me.
right now i learn following (parts of) songs:
- Kalmah Swamphell (yeah, still :p )
- Symphony X - Inferno (Unleash the Fire) (intro)
- Towards the Dead End - CoB (sweeping part)
- Sinergy - Passage to the fourth world / the first solo part of Roope
those are the songs i want to focus.

for fun i learn/practise:
Nile - Lashed to the slave stick
Slayer - Raining Blood
Malmsteen - Trilogy

edit: nice post number 2,666 :D

I'm only talking about the first section of the song. The first tab is Wrong. If you want to learn it the way he plays it, the 2nd tab is what you want.

Shattered_Future 05-04-2006 05:11 PM

I got the first part of Inferno...first...3 seconds, maybe. :p

Sleepy 05-04-2006 06:16 PM

Swamphell's beyond me, but I've only been playing guitar for a few months now. I know how to play it the whole way through on bass, though - it's a fun tune.

It has a killer intro. I might try it once I've learned Bodom Beach Terror.

The pre chorus is a bitch.

MRDuCran 05-05-2006 09:20 AM

/checks Swamphell tab.

The Masked Guitarist 05-05-2006 09:23 AM

/is getting angry with his bass
/contemplates if he sould smach the bithc

MRDuCran 05-05-2006 10:19 AM

Why, what has it done wrong?

Anyway, I got the Swamphell tab and realised I've downloaded the song before and I kidna like it, so I'm gonna get it again and also give it a shot.
I'm just trying to re-arranged the tab so I can find an easier fingering, the one on the net looks a bit tricky with the pinky barres on the 17th fret etc.

I've got one version that uses a load of position shifts but it's easy for me, I might play it that way.

The Patient

Hey, I know this is kind of a throwback, but I kind of wanted to get this forum back on track... you know... theories on the songs?
One of my all time favorites is The Patient off of Lateralus. I love the guitar intro and the drums throughout, but I've been thinking a lot about the lyrics:

03 the patient •

A groan of tedium escapes me,
Startling the fearful.
Is this a test? It has to be,
Otherwise I can't go on.
Draining patience, drain vitality.
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act's a little old.

But I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I'm still right here.

Wait it out,
Gonna wait it out,
Be patient (wait it out).

If there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
Gonna wait it out.

If there were no desire to heal
The damaged and broken met along
This tedious path I've chosen here
I certainly would've walked away by now.

And I still may ... (sigh) ... I still may.

Be patient.
I must keep reminding myself of this.

And if there were no rewards to reap,
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
And I still may.

Gonna wait it out.

I have a theory: This song is about Maynard's mother, who was a cancer patient for 27 years (this might also be the reason for the title "10,000 days (27 years is 9,855 days... almost 10,000.)) ANy thoughts?

repcak 05-05-2006 11:22 AM

äh... wrong thread? this is about Cob, not Tool ;)

Yeah that looks wrong to me. Obviously I don't know for sure it's how they play it, but I definately wouldn't play it like that. I can't find any videos on video Google or youtube. Try re-arranging the notes around to make it easier on yourself.

repcak 05-05-2006 11:38 AM

i learn this song in that way now for some months ... it would have to start from the beginning if i would re-arrange it.
and why, do you think, if you haven't seen a video, that it's wrong?!

kurrpt 05-05-2006 11:39 AM

hes probably used to laiho style, given the vast amount of songs/riff hes learned from CoB. Hes literally the "residential expert"
