How about some actual conversation, good god enough with the lists! THey are BORING.
|
I heard Passeger-Deftones a while ago and its a pretty bad song and maynard singing the chorus is pretty cool.
|
Hey! That's an awesome song, how dare you....
Chino's and MJK's voices really compliment each other, or so I think anyway. |
Ken, do you have any new Tool news?
 |
i meant its a Great song is how i should've put it..yeah i think both their voices do comply with each other. and its funny that maynard is mostly singing the song

Seeing as Mr SonorKen thinks lists are boring I think Ill take a shot at interpreting 4 degrees. My interpretations appear italicized.
4 Degrees Get up and free yourself from yourself. This is the very start of the song, so its kind of ambiguous what it could mean, but I think it has to with personal inhibition. Locked up inside you, like the calm beneath castles, is a cavern of treasures that noone has been to. Let's go digging. Bring it out to take you back in. The cavern of treasures is all the aspects of the person(Ill refer to him as Jimmy from now on) that he either doesnt know are there, or does know but doesnt use. Lets go digging means, lets see what kind of potential is here, lets use this etc. Bring it to take you back in I think means by doing what I described for the last line that the person will be able to really live to their full potential. You won't do what you'd like to do. By this I think Maynard means that Jimmy would rather just sit and do nothing about the problem and so he has to exit his comfort zone to become a better person. Also I think theres an element of the unknown here... Lay back and let me show you another way. ...And now Maynards going to help him... I'll kill what you want me to, take what's left and eat it. Take all or nothing. Hmm...I think he means that he'll kill the bad parts, and then poor Jimmy will have to either come to terms with the good parts and evolve as a person or hes basically screwed. Life's just too short to push it away. Its srupid to just not try. Take it all. Take it all in. All the way in. Let it go. Let it go in. I think this has a little undertone to it as in, (dont be afraid to) Take it all in. Basically dont be afraid of living. You won't feel what you'd like to feel. Once again the element of the unknown, I think this means Jimmy is going to feel stuff hes never felt before and it might scare him but... Lay back and let me show you another way. ...It will be better to suffer a minor pain and know what else is out there then the alternative. If you knock me down I'll come back running, knock you down, If you try to resist it will backfire and make things worse, or at least no better. In other words, no progress will be made, which is the point of the song I think; personal progress. it won't be long now I think this line is obvious... All the way in. All the way. So far this song has been kinda hey Im helping you, hooray! but now it almost seems like Maynard is forcefeeding poor Jimmy this new life, which opens a completely different avenue of interpretation, basically a dichotomy of whether the protagonist(Maynard) is really the good guy here. Take it up higher. 4 degrees warmer. I think the 4 degrees bit might be a scientific reference; a metaphor of global warming. See there are all these scientists talking about how just a little warmer would be such a drastic change, yeah you figure it out. But I think that might be kinda saying that Maynard isnt telling Jimmy the side effects of whats happening, you know kind of a filtered reality. Give in now and let me in. You'll like this in Don't pull it out. And this is where its obvious Jimmy is being force fed, threatened etc. It brings us closer than dying and cancer and crying. This is kinda like "Were family! You have to listen to me now!" Kind of a scary cultish blood brother bond. These lines are probably lies. Come on . You can take it all. Just like that. And finally this is where the "New and Improved" Jimmy2000 is born, with a delusion of invincibility, and now he is just a pawn...Hmm... Well there it is. The whole taking a good thing and using it badly and the cultish seduction give it the ubiquitous anti-religion glow but as always I think its more then that. I think theres the also TOOL-ubiquitous message of think for your self even if all the answers are there. If they are the right answers, think about why that is. Even if someone is telling think for yourself, think about why that person would want to tell you that. I think Maynard might be kind of saying not to take Tool so seriously that every action you take is Tool influenced or not even Tool any band or person you admire dont be to easy to influence basically. Conclusion: This song is a warning not to be to easy to influence by any influence you might have. Also its about personal progress, and I suppose might have some religous portent, but I wont get into that. The End :) God I hope I didnt erase anything... |

Cause noone else has. |
The anal cavity is 4 degrees warmer than the snatch, in case this hasn't been established yet.

My myspace. I put the video for My Own Summer and a game on there.... Oh and Four Degrees = best song off of Undertow. From the lyrics, it seems like a pre-Stinkfist type thing. |
I really like the intro. Really not even sure what kind of effect he's using though. :-/

I think hes probably using some sort of delay or flange and picking between the bridge and the tailpiece. |
Oh.
Whats a snatch?
 **** I missed my 2k post..... |

My Opiate Favorites:
1. Part Of Me 2. Cold And Ugly |
Cold and Ugly is easily the best off Opiate. Jerk Off is like a mediocre + vulgar Cold and Ugly.
Sober is the best off Undertow. Probably Third Eye from Aenima. And this is tough but...Lateralus is probably my favorite off of Lateralus. |
im lovin the name dried muffin remnants
|
Im thinking Ticks and Leeches or The Patient from Lateralus.
I don't care what you say the outro for Jerk-Off is the highlight of the album.
I mean come on..... SHOOT YOU IN YOUR FUCKING HEAD!!!!
Agreed. I like the intro too. He just badmouths the crowd, and the crowd loves it. But the Cold and Ugly one is better: "Throw that Bob Marley Wannabe Mother****er Outa Here!"
im lovin the name dried muffin remnants
Wow! Just noticed the change. Sweet. In Chains 36 was definitely too generic. |
"Throw that Bob Marley Wannabe Mother****er Outa Here!"
.
Great quote |
The Sweat intro is awesome too, as well as the song.

I wasnt a big fan of Opiate, but from undertow on was amazing. I think they have progressed more with every album.
My favorite songs from them are The Patient, Pu****, and Disposition/Reflection/Triad. |
Im thinking Ticks and Leeches or The Patient from Lateralus.
I looked at the number of times I've played Ticks and Leeches, and it's ridiculous. It's easily my most-played song on iTunes. I think it's a very approachable song, so-to-speak because of its drum-intro. |
