Honestly, I think Lopez's best work is on D&D. The whole Damnation album, and Deliverance's title track. They win.

Kaiwaz 04-22-2006 12:54 PM

I don't know...the drums on Karma alone seem to be more advanced then anything on Deliverance and Damnation combined to me.

denboy 04-22-2006 01:04 PM

Some of the grooves on Windowpane are quite advanced.. And Deliverance (the song) has some of my favorite drum parts..
I haven't listened much to My Arms, Your Hearse though, since I don't own it, so I wouldn't know

Kaiwaz 04-22-2006 01:27 PM

It's definitely worth owning if you like Opeth. I think the album has some of their best work in all areas.

Shattered_Future 04-22-2006 01:31 PM

I love his drums on Damnation...he uses a rather minimalist kit, and manages to craft some beautiful drum lines out of them...

Crysiss 04-22-2006 01:52 PM

I agree with Shattered.

np. Closure:D

Not to mention Lopez's beats are very original.

Case in point.

Crysiss 04-22-2006 04:49 PM

You were the one that made me want to listen to that track.

Shattered_Future 04-22-2006 05:01 PM

Well, I feel happy that I did now. :p

Round 3 of my question:
Hey, I tried this a few months ago and got like 2 responses before I was drowned out in the usual "official thread" mindless banter, but here goes...

I recently got my copy of Lamentations signed by Opeth at Scrape Records in Vancouver. It's super cool, but I can't tell whos signature is whos! Does anyone else have anything signed by Opeth that they can compare this to to help me out? Can anyone identify these scribbles?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...l/c2417ecb.jpg

I'm pretty sure the bottom right is Per Wiberg, but beyond that I'm lost!
Agreed. You haven't fully experienced the band until you've heard every song they have.

Crysiss 04-23-2006 12:12 AM

Has anyone heard Steel?

Or I Hate Hip-Hop:p

Slapping Penguin 04-23-2006 12:20 AM

I am seeing Opeth on Tuesday :D, I want make sure I have the full experience by knowing ever song there. Now I have ever Opeth album buts its hard to get to everthing esepically when we all know the length of Opeth tracks. Can people tell me songs they are really likely to play?

PS: Does anyone else Closure just cut off kinda at the end?

Killtacular 04-23-2006 12:26 AM
PS: Does anyone else Closure just cut off kinda at the end?
Mine does that, as I'm sure everyone else's does, too. And I really, really don't know why. I guess Mr. Wilson had a bit too much nose candy that day.

This is from the Perth Show. Post taken from somebody on another forum.
Ghost of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
The Baying of the Hounds
Closure (w/ extended Improv)
Under a Weeping Moon
*power goes out*
Martin Axenrot drum solo
*power back in*
Under a Weeping Moon continued
The Grand Conjuration
The Leper Affinity
-------
Deliverance

Obviously the drum solo and power outage weren't part of the show proper but was due to the stupid venue and their faulty fuses. There was a power outage just before Eternal were due to go on as well, which caused a delay. Mikael handled it all like a ****ing champ though.
They'll probably play "Ghost of Perdition" and "The Grand Conjuration" because they need to promote the new album. They'll also probably play something off of Deliverance (probably the title track) and that's about all I can guarantee you.

Just be prepared for an awesome time! :thumb:

Jude 04-23-2006 08:21 AM

The setlist Gmac posted is basically the one they've been playing this whole tour, they probably won't deviate too much from that.

Thor 04-23-2006 09:04 AM

Well then there you go. I haven't seen them yet, but I've seen some videos and I know that they'll play popular songs.

Vaper 04-23-2006 09:19 AM

just got back from opeth in melb and damn it was good , only dissapointment was they didnt play demon and there was no dark tranquility support. Support band was a aussie band named "the eternal" oh and i was in a cue for about 5hours besides that it was awesome, setlist i think was like this.
Ghost of Perdition
White Cluster
The Amen Corner
The Baying of the Hounds
Closure
Under the Weeping Moon
The Grand Conjuration
Deliverance

at the end of the show mikael said tommorows(todays) setlis would be somewhat different

Jude 04-23-2006 09:24 AM

BWP hasn't been in the setlist this tour...

Thor 04-23-2006 09:26 AM
BWP hasn't been in the setlist this tour...
Well that's a shame, seeing as how The Leper Affinity and Bleak are two of my favorite Opeth songs.

Shattered_Future 04-23-2006 09:53 AM

I think everybody thought that you meant they didn't play BWP the song, Thor. :p

I would have rather gotten The Leper Affinity, but The Drapery Falls still kicked some ***.
