so let me get this straight, jaymes writes most of the solo's? why doesnt he perform them as well?
He plays them sometimes in replace of Hammet i think. Rarely?
ah, what ones did he right, basicly all of them?
^^ so there is such a song?
There is some ****ty instrumental going around Kazaa with that name, but it's bull****. |
Yup.. Theres not that kind of songs. Metallica will say it in theyr own website if there is.
Actually i think James just writes the slow solos, i really cant see him writing fast leads
metallica are a good band il give em that this forum is equaly as good :thumb:
If anyone is good in guitar here i would like to ask how do u play fade to black ending solo, as the solo is approaching to an end, there this part where u start off at the 12th fret and began pulling off from the 14th fret..
i love this part i can't manage to play it very smoothly, is there any methods to it or does anyone have some tips on that? (ride the lightning- fade to black, around 6:10 onwards) |
I'm sorry. Where is all this "JAMES WRITES EVERY SOLO" comming from. James writes the slow solos. The ones he is credited with writing are ones like the first solo in MOP or a solo in orion. James said himself he can't solo that well. The reason most people think hetfield writes them is because hammet barely gets writing credits. This is probably because coming in and writing a little solo and shredding for 30 secconds does not count as "writing the song" and so he doesn't get writing credits. i suppose you have to actually write the "song" part to get credits. But hammet writes those solos. Can you imagine hetfield even dreaming of playing one's solo. Amazing rhytm player but come on
James may or may not be able to play a master solo. But at least he is able to sing and play power riffs the same time without losing his concentration.
If that was directed at my last post then my message came across wrong. I think james is an amazing player. To be able to play that fast and that solidly and sing at the same time is quite hard. Definitely and understated guitarist for sure. Are metallica bask in the studio now or is that just me?
ok to answer a few questions
YES METALLICA IS IN STUDIOS JAMES DOES NOT WRITE EVERY SOLO he wrote Nothing Else Matters and several little solos. All those incredible solos you hear like in Fade to Black are all Hammett. How could you think Hammett didn't write the solos? Go to 15:18 on disc 2 (Mexico City) of Live Sh*t track 5. |
I know what you mean, this happened earlier on in the thread, a bunch of people started saying james wrote all the solos, It happens every now and again lol. HE DID NOT
Cheers for the studio answer though, thanks. |
Yeah, james dont write master solos.. but well the least he did was he wrote an awesome nothing else matters solo. It's all full of emotions, and purely just Nothing Else Matters. During the S&M concert, he did another improvised solo, so much better, so incredible.
Then again, he is also good at writting other catchy riffs.. and not to mention about the lyrics... |
And now can someone answer me question?
how many songs will be on the next album?
my guess is north of 10, south of 15 :thumb: by the way, there's an edit button if you want to add something. |
I'm not sure how were meant to know that. But in an IDEAL world I would say 8 nuggets of pure thrash gold
nah. the most likely thing is an early 90s black album type thing but with the obligitory E flat tuning. they've listened to the fans and the last thing theyll do is a "re-anger".
looking at all the rumours thats my conclusion. |
Well you can only hope eh
And now can someone answer me question?
what's your question? i want 8 songs on this album, a classic RTL or MOP |
why? how about 20 songs, classic RTL MoP or AJFA :thumb:
Not quite on the same train of thought. But does anyone here wish they would release a new straight (no fancy stuff) live Dvd with a bunch of their old stuff. Like a minimalized Live; **** (i.e one disc) Basically that kinda thing but with the better modern day sound quality. Plus a chance to see rob. Actually summit like the St. anger dvd would be amazing (But obviously NOT playing St. anger songs)
no. it would have to be a long one spanning their career, st. anger songs are awesome live because they put guitar solos in them.

do you have any videos of the solos added? i really want to see it |
Does anyone know what the tuning is going to be for the new album?
Why do you wanna know that? I mean, personally i dont care about tuning. Exodus downtuned for new stuff and it turned out killer
Cause there better stufff is in standard tuning.
James can no longer sing in the key of E, they have to move it down to E flat. Some songs sound better in E flat (puppetz) but some sound horrible (seek and destroy)
NP: Dark Tranquility-White Noise/Black Silence
You quite like that song don't you? |

Yeah, he really killed his voice making Black Album. |
ironic, considering he took singing lessons in 1990.
Not that it matters, but it would be cool if he grew his hair again
Yeah I like it alot, I'm really glad you posted a link to it. Cheers man :)
You're on a dial-up aren't you? |
Not that it matters, but it would be cool if he grew his hair again
actually there's quite a funny site about het's hair through the past 25 years or whatever. it is a bit het-bashing, but its quite good. put in james hetfield on google and its the first one. |
can somone explain how tuning can affect someones singing?
'Fraid so :upset:
Ah, poor show. If you had broadband/cable I would've uploaded their newest album, Character, to yousendit for you. |
can somone explain how tuning can affect someones singing?
Different people have different ranges, so there's no point in playing with instruments tuned to E when your singers voice is most comfortable in Eb. |

it's very simple really and any good musician should know this. if jaymz was singing as if the song was in E, but in actuality is was in E flat, it would sound out of key. also, voices often deepen over time, and jaymz finds it more comfortable to sing in a lower pitch now. |
