Ok, you should probably get Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos , Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness, Autopsy - Mental Funeral , and Morpheus Descends - Chronicles of the Shadowed Ones

they're the best ones out of the essential death stuff people have rec'd me
None of those are anything like the Atheist album he was looking for suggestions based on.

Meatplow 02-09-2010 10:18 PM
Piece of Time is better. More straightforward, though. As far as other bands...uh...I don't know about better, but here are some things that mesh stylistically with it.

Hellwitch - Syzygial Miscreancy
Martyr - Feeding the Abscess (vocals are awful, but it's in the same vein, just more technical)
Death - Human or Individual Thought Patterns
Hieronymus Bosch - Equivoke
Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette
Capharnaum - Fractured
Psycroptic - The Scepter Of The Ancients (A more modern version, but the vocals are burpy and croaky and bother some people)

As far as Gorguts, I'd probably say From Wisdom to Hate before Obscura, but it depends on if you want the weirdest one first (Obscura) or not.
Fantastic, this should do me. Thanks.

Si1v3RfaNg 02-09-2010 10:19 PM
Thanks.

This is my death metal folder, within I have probably the most popular album for each artist and that's it. Some albums I haven't listened to yet may or may not be death metal.

eww
None of those are anything like the Atheist album he was looking for suggestions based on.
I just thought I'd throw some death metal albums at him since I figured he would probably skip obvious ones to go for more random ones

Meatplow 02-09-2010 10:21 PM

I'm pretty set for entry level stuff, I can always do my own research. Thanks though.

Tyler 02-09-2010 10:23 PM

I put some [mostly] non entry level stuff based on what you axed for up top

Ventriloquist 02-09-2010 10:38 PM
albums like Atheist's Unquestionable Presence but better?
You can also check Theory in Practice - Third Eye Function out. They are not better than Atheist but they make weird tech death songs with flamenco sections and shi.

Meatplow 02-09-2010 11:02 PM

Sounds good, thanks.

Heya, I'm looking for something similar to Ulver's Bergtatt or Nattens Madrigal or Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger. Or something similar to Burzum's Hvis Lyset Tar Oss or Walknut.

Tyler 02-11-2010 02:44 PM

Belenos - Specilege

Meatplow 02-11-2010 02:47 PM
something similar to Darkthrone's Transilvanian Hunger
Get Panzerfaust, from what I remember it has similar enough production that it could be considered pretty much the same album.

Morumbar 02-11-2010 02:53 PM

Will check those out. Thanks.

I've also been meaning to give Peste Noire a more serious listen sometime, so I think I have enough to keep me going for some time now.

Tyler 02-11-2010 02:53 PM

yeah listen to peste noire's first and third album's as well as the Lorraine rehearsals.

Any recs for bands similar to Coheed and Cambria, Dance Gavin Dance, The White Stripes, Misery Signals, Horse The Band, The Fall of Troy, Despised Icon, Deftones, Alexisonfire and Brand New?

Oh, and does anyone have any recs for bands that they listen to for working out? I need some angry, fast paced music. Maybe some good death metal or thrash metal.

Jaundice 02-16-2010 02:15 PM

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
