Well their best song is the first one on the destroy, erase, improve album. But Nothing is really good too.
and on topic: I would recommend Spawn of possession, immolation, morbid angel and nile
That isn't on topic. Read the first post. |
Alright, I'm huge into Radiohead and have 5/6 of their albums. Ever since I got into Yes and Rush a couple months ago, my taste has widened and wierdened. I believe Radiohead - OK Computer, Rush - 2112, and Yes - The Yes Album and Tales From Topographic Oceans are masterpieces. I was recently told to get Sigur Ros - ( ), so I bought it yesterday. And I absolutely love it. It's amazingly simple and beautiful, and continues to blow my mind.
Where do I go from there?
Try listening to some King Crimson (In the court of the Crimson King) and Porcupine Tree(In Absentia, Stupid Dream). |
Thank you, good sir. I think that will essentially cover my Progressive fix.

No problem :) On another note, due to your FF avatar, have you listened to The Black Mages? |
No problem :)
On another note, due to your FF avatar, have you listened to The Black Mages?
I've only heard "Those Who Fight Further", and I am rather intrigued. I think Nobuo Uematsu and his ilk (like Yoko Kanno) are brilliant, and I like his music, and having it set in that fashion was quite cool to listen to. I'm seriously looking into obtaining the album. |

We had a rather lovely thread on them Here. If you read it from the start it mentions ways of obtaining the album. If they don't work for you just let me know and I can upload one, or both of the albums for you. |
bookmark'd.
Is Buckethead associated with Les Claypool?
buckethead did some work with clapool in Colonel claypool's bucket of bernie brains. |
Consider getting Agaetis Bryjun, which a lot of Sigur Ros fans think is their best album, even beating ( ). For more prog, I'm recommending Be by Pain Of Salvation to anyone and everyone who'll listen at the moment (expect a review in the next few days), as I think that's a great album. Although it's not prog as such, if you've never heard Endtroducing by DJ Shadow, I think you should do, as that always seems to have progressive elements to me.
Thanks, Med. I'll look into these things. |
Pearl Jam - Greatest hits is an amazing album get it :)

Where do I go from there?
have a look for some anthony curtis, escpecially book of the key, which was with bill bruford and mike keneally, very good prog. Also oceansize - effloresce, who are about as prog as radiohead, and fairly similar to radiohead aswell in places. |

I don't actually know any Dream Theater, but it has been highly reccomended to me by a fellow Prog fan with a similar ear for artists as me. I'm seriously looking into them as well. Epic songs, endless solos - yet another group for me to get lost in. w00t!

Can someone recommend me a band or two similar to Dillinger Escape Plan? Not only in the sense of technicality, but with the same sound(vocally and musically).

Converge, maybe. You might have more luck asking in one of the community threads in the Hardcore/Emo forum, I think.
Mission Of Burma-Vs
I need to check those guys out, too. |
Can anyone recommend me stuff similar to the Alice In Chains EPs? The acoustic stuff.

What's the best of Dream Theater and/or Rush that really flaunts its keyboard work?
|
Tom Saywer comes to mind with keyboard and Rush as does the Spirit of Radio.
You can do much better than me with Dreamm Theater though. |
What's the best of Dream Theater and/or Rush that really flaunts its keyboard work?
For impressive DT keyboard work try and pick up Train of Thought, and possibly Scenes From a Memory. |
