i love what Metallica did to astronomy, they added beef to it, it sounds a lot better than the original. The blue oyster cult isn't exactly heavy lol.

Amen brother. My sentiments exactly

I just saw S&M and Cunning Stunts the other day and I was blown away. Me and my friend busted out some guitars and played a bunch of stuff because watching those got the adreneline pumping.
|
Lately i've been listening to loads of 'Bodom and In flames - the melodic death scene basicaly, but a few days ago i felt something was missing, so i put in MoP and was blown away like the time i brought it home for the first time. Just something about Metllica that words can't describe. Thought provoking lyrics, heavy / melodic / meaningful / powerful when its appropriate, they experimented and wrote the best **** music on earth.
I just had to say that :) |
dudes **** the technicalities, metallica ****ing rule

------------ here's what i like to play: mop, one, nothing else matters, for whom the bell tolls, fade to black, 4 horsemen and leper messiah. there are easy songs, i can't really play hard ones because i've ben playing for only 8 months. and leper messiah is one of my favourite songs. shame that tallica guys never play it live. and i can't play it correctly. there is no perfect tab for this song on the net and i had to tab it myself. |
So... how about that song "Escape?" Does it sound like Hetfield singing Iron Maiden or what? Especially in the chorus.
So... how about that song "Escape?" Does it sound like Hetfield singing Iron Maiden or what? Especially in the chorus.
Yeah, "Escape" just sounds so unnatural coming from Hetfield's pipes. Escape is a total contrast to RTL it doesn't seem to fit in at all and is just an all around poor song. It sounds so cheesy too, when I picture them performing it live I think of some hair band strutting about doing all these stupid poses. It's so not Metallica.

I like Escape. I listened to it one day and I just got attached to it.
My fav songs are Blackened, AJFA, MOP. I used to love playing Fade to Black but I got bored of it 'cus I plyed it like three times everyday. Creeping Death is pretty cool to. |
Escape is sweet, as is the song that appears before it. :D:D:D
so whats new....i haven't been to this thread even forum in ages..
Me niether, actually this is my first time in this thread so if i say anything that has already been said, sorry. A question for the Metallica fans out there who play the guitar, Can anyone tell me what key Metallica mostly play in? Why do they use this key? Also what scale(s) does Kirk Hammet use in his solos? |
Hammet is usualy using E pentatonic scales and a bit of Phrygian ( Where-ever i may roam ), im not too hot on theory so im probably not overly reliable.

I'm finally seeing Metallica in concert on March 28th... I'm counting down the days. I'm just hoping they play all the good old stuff. But there are so many awesome Metallica songs out there. My favorites are Orion (see name), Fade to Black, Creeping Death, Battery (when you need something heavy), Four Horsemen, Sanitarium... well jeez i have too many to list. And I think the hardest Kirk solo is in Dyer's Eve... the drumming is wicked too. iliketoplaydrums check out the double bass in that song. Lars apparently can't even play it anymore. Is that true?

He can't play it live. I think they had to use some special device or something to get him to play that fast. I'm not really sure, sorry, I just know he can't play it live. |

And thats just bull****....do you go on the Metallica web site and watch the met on tour videos? i guess not then. first video for evidence that they may be playing it very soon.... Kirk is practising the dyers eve riff. Rob busts in to the dyers eve bass line, on "what does rob do when he warms up" and to top it off. all of the st anger drumming is faster then dyers eve. edit - the dont play it because of the lyrics.. James was pissed off at his parents when he wrote it. |

Erm, which song on St. Anger is faster than Dyers Eve ...?
edit - the dont play it because of the lyrics.. James was pissed off at his parents when he wrote it.
So what ? they play Until it Sleeps and The God that Failed live and thats about his parents DEATH.. the reason they dont play it is mainly due to the fact that the band cant pull it off respectably due to Lars' poor drumming and that Kirk can't play the solo anymore. |
I read of an occasion where Metallica played Leper Messiah live, apparently they dedicated to two local television evangelists
http://www.allmetallica.com/info/songinfo/lmessiah.html • Leper Messiah (Hetfield/Ulrich) Because of the instrumental style of the song it has also become one of Cliff's trademark songs for many fans. Album: Master of Puppets The song live: The first time the song has been played live was in the "100 Club" in London, England on a secret gig which has been afterwards called "Damage Inc." on August 20th '87. The entire song has been only played live various times on tour between '87-'89 and once in '92. On the Load tour Metallica played it instrumentally as a pre-encore jam. Such a "Leper Messiah" jam is also included on "Cunning Stunts" which was filmed in September 1997 in Fort Worth, Texas. Jaymz's dedication: Once on tour James sarcastically dedicated the song to Jim and Tammy Fey Baker, two TV evangelists who embezzled millions of dollars of charity money. The claimed credits: Dave Mustaine claimed he wrote the song's main riff and was not given credit by Metallica. The matter was settled quietly. The subject matter: It is about so called messiahs who make a good profit on other people's faith. "Send me money, send me green" "Heaven you will meet" "Make a contribution" "And you'll get a better seat" |
Can you direct me to these videos?
Album: Metallica The song live: The first time the song was played during a concert was at May 30th 1994 in Buffalo, NY. The song was only played live during the gigs of '94 and '95. The background sound: In the intro and end of the song there is the background sound of James reloading his rifle as it can be seen in the "A Year And 1/2 In The Year Of Metallica" video. Why James wrote this song: James wrote about his mother's death by cancer. She believed solely in her faith to heal her that she did not accept any medical aid. She died. Song Interpretation: It is about broken promises. • Until It Sleeps (Hetfield/Ulrich) This song was the first single release of the "Load" album. Based on singles sales it is Metallica's fifth largest hit to date. Album: Load The song live: It was live performed at the 1996 Mtv Video Music Awards. It was just a fixed part of Metallica's live setlist on the "Poor Touring Me '96 - '97" tour. The subject matter: It is another dealing of Jaymz with the Christian-science. It was written by James to cope with the illness of his father by cancer. "So tell me why you've choosen me ..." |
well, you learn something new everyday. i didn't know that he played that solo cause i thought he was doing the acoustic guitar part, huh?
I'd have to relisten to the song to know what you were getting at with the "acoustic guitar part" but if it was in the background while James was playing his solo it's possible it was an overdub.
|
It's a pretty nice solo indeed.
|
Metallicas guitar solos are easy, especially all of the One solos. It's just a bunch of fazzle dazzle. Its just catchy .
|
Metallica is my most favorite band. Ive been a fan of them for about 1 year now, and I love most of their songs. I got a few of their CDs, I have Metallica figures with instruments. I know how to play lots of their songs on my guitar, im preety good at playing their songs. I love to play nothing else matters. Most of their songs are my favorite, but if i would choose my most favorite song from them I would choose Unforgiven. My most favorite solo from them is the Master of Puppets solo. :)
