^Yeah dude, i've seen the roots perform on leno, conan, and carson and all 3 performances sucked. The music is so generic this time around, im very dissapointed.
I like their performance on this video though, especially the second song they perform:

On the whole though, I'd say it's one of their worst albums yet, I'll have to listen to it a bit more before I can say if it's better or worse than The Tipping Point (which I liked).
haha, I thought you were serious, so I listened to the beginning of every song only to realize you were joking.
Haha,

If not 50 cent, what did they put?
For a while all you'd hear was 50 Cent, Chingy , Etc..

I agree, te Roots Album is pretty lame, some of the songs are pretty awesome.

well, they could all be mainstream beats, cause I'm not too familiar with mainstream rap and I only recognized two of the beats: Where Is The Love by Black Eyed Peas, and some Lil Jon song. Regardless of the credibility of the beats though, I think the end result is awesome.

We_Love_Lime 09-18-2006 07:40 PM

Heh cool.

Glitterati 09-18-2006 08:37 PM
What does everyone think of the new Roots album? I think several songs could qualify as classics and I haven't even listened to it in it's entirety yet. It's probably the best Roots album I've heard.

Who likes Big Moe? A-lot of his songs can be mediocre but there a few songs ("Bar Baby", "City of Syrup", "Purple Stuff"..etc) that are infectiously catchy.
I'm just getting into The Roots, their new album is pretty sweet.

We_Love_Lime 09-18-2006 09:48 PM

I admit it's pretty sweet at some parts.

Some parts are just weird, yeah BT's singing is pretty lame.
But I belive they stepped up their Instrumentals alot, even though that the CD was centered aruond BT.

Street Spirit (Fade Out) 09-18-2006 11:12 PM

What does G.O. mean? The Geto Boys say it a lot.
It's called American Hunger. I've only heard the first disc, but it is great. Really, really, really good.
awesome i'm looking for it now with much excitement. i've only heard his stuff with MF Doom, which is pretty wicked, so i've got high expectations.

JonM 09-19-2006 08:57 AM

If you have soulseek it should be relatively easy to track down.

JonM 09-19-2006 04:23 PM

Okay, so one of the tracks on the last disc samples "Helter Skelter." This album is INCREDIBLE. That's all I can say.

Tyler 09-19-2006 04:33 PM

Isn't he "GM Grimm" now?

JonM 09-19-2006 04:34 PM

Not on this record.

Tyler 09-19-2006 04:36 PM

Ah.

They're releasing a comic about his life. I'm going to check out the Triple Disc too. The idea of a triple hip-hop disc is almost as awesome as the claims Im hearing that it works.

The Jungler 09-19-2006 04:59 PM

I've never heard anything by him but (score!) Rhapsody has quite a few LP's by him. Including the triple.

JonM 09-19-2006 05:04 PM

So the last track is a 7+ minute Doom diss track, and it's really intense, but what's hip hop without a bitter rivalry every once in a while? So I finished the album. It doesn't have an un-spectacular track on it.

The mask took control of you, like Jim Carrey

I gotta get that MF Grimm triple disk album.
I gotta get that MF Grimm triple disk album.
I'm getting it now, so I'll have it on soulseek (lintmunro) if anyone's looking.

The new Method Man album is surprisingly decent.

The Jungler 09-20-2006 03:07 PM

The Grimm tracks I've heard have been just alright, but The Book of Daniel is fantastic.

What do you guys think of RJD2?

Good turntablist. Bad rap producer. Aceyalone should get compensation for RJD2's beats on Magnificent City.

The Jungler 09-20-2006 03:52 PM

I really haven't listened alot of Magnificent City. The one song I heard wasn't all that badly produced though. He works well with Copywrite on June though. Then again, that song is on one of his albums.

Tyler 09-20-2006 03:54 PM

American Hunger is amazing so far.

I just read that he was the Ghostwriter on Dre's Chronic album. I didn't know that.

Rams 09-20-2006 04:05 PM

His production has a very "me first" quality, I think. He didn't give Blueprint any space on Soul Position, but I don't really think Blueprint is very good so I didn't mind. The same I find true for most solo DJ's. Shadow and Madlib can do some good stuff alone, but I find their production to be really poor when working with able rappers.

The Jungler 09-20-2006 04:08 PM

I was just listening to more Magnificent City. Its pretty bad, that goes for Aceyalone as well.

Madlib and Shadow are pretty awesome thouugh. Have you heard any Quasimoto? Madlib is pretty awesome on those records.

ATM 09-20-2006 04:13 PM

Apparently RJD2's next album is going to be him playing all of the instruments, with only maybe 1 or 2 samples.

The Jungler 09-20-2006 04:17 PM
Apparently RJD2's next album is going to be him playing all of the instruments, with only maybe 1 or 2 samples.
Awesome, seems like a much better sound change than DJ Shadow chose.

RJ's voice is pretty great as well. I would like to hear more of it.

ATM 09-20-2006 04:21 PM

Where did you hear it?

The Jungler 09-20-2006 04:23 PM

He sings on Making Days Longer off Since We Last Spoke. Probably my favorite song on the CD.

ATM 09-20-2006 04:25 PM

Awesome, I'll have to try and hear that. I'm actually going to see him on Saturday at Virgin fest so I wonder if he's going to do any live instrumentation.

The Jungler 09-20-2006 04:57 PM
Awesome, I'll have to try and hear that. The fact that my local club's Rap shows are all 21+ doesn't help either.
