Rattlehead 03-20-2006 02:42 PM

just like to say i saw trivium on saturday. they levelled the place. *neckache!!* -lol. but yea they did the usual gr8 ascendancy songs and...... seek and destroy baby!!! hell yes... they got a singer up on the stage to do master of puppets, and some a**hole emo got up there and told matt that he didnt know the words after all. but yea they did their tribute to dimebag etc, did walk, domination. drum solo ruled, as did the combo guitar solos... as i say they levelled the place, a definate highlight of my life.:thumb:

Dreaming Neon Black 03-20-2006 02:45 PM

Ah, whats up Trivium thread?

First time here, just got into Trivium last night. :)

Is it just me, or does Matt Heafy do a really good job on the vocals of Master of Puppets? The whole band does really well. The sound better doing MoP live than Metallica themselves.

/hopes to post more here

Rattlehead 03-20-2006 02:49 PM

i dont think they do better at MOP than their own songs, but ur definately right, they sure do make 'Tallica proud when they play it. as i said, they played it on saturday...:thumb:

Ibanex0110 03-20-2006 05:54 PM

i'm sure this has been brought up, but i downloaded some songs from the show in astoria from the 16th, and it seems matt sings nearly everything. and when screaming is required, corey does it. is it because matt threw his voice out, or are they just trying to not scream as much?

i can agree with that but ive only seen them once, on saturday. i noticed that corey did the majority of the singin, yeah. but i dunno if he usually does that.

SimonCore 03-21-2006 10:48 AM

Matt screamed for the first few songs. but the rest he sorta gritty shouted them. All good though. the only one Corey sung was Ember to inferno.

Invicta_Veritas 03-21-2006 12:12 PM

I find it funny that all these singers continue to throw thier voices out (Matt Heafy, Corey taylor, dude from A7x). You would think at some point that guys would start to get a clue of how to take care of thier voices and how to sing properly........in 10 years, there won't be any singers left..........

alexmonty12 03-21-2006 12:22 PM

Trivium are meant to be supporting Maiden this December, and i'm going, should be awesome stuff :D

i am the robots 03-21-2006 12:26 PM

Matt Sanders (A7X) didn't blow his voice out for the same reason, he was having breathing difficulties and it wasn't really possible for him to scream correctly with the condition.

There are plenty of singers who scream well and won't blow their voices out:
Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy, ex-Bloodbath)
Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity, ex-In Flames, ex-Hammerfall)
Anders Friden (In Flames, ex-Dark Tranquillity, ex-Ceremonial Oath)
Bjorn Strid (Soilwork, ex-Darkane)
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth, Steel, ex-Bloodbath, ex-Katatonia)

all three have been doing it for over 10 years anyhow.

Other examples:
Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage, ex-Blood Has Been Shed)
Jesse Leach (Seemless, ex-Killswitch Engage, ex-Nothing Stays Gold)
Phil Lebonte (All That Remains, ex-Shadows Fall)
Brian Fair (Shadows Fall, Overcast)
Dallas Taylor (Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster, ex-Underoath)
Derek Bonner (Lilitu)
Jon Martinek (Bereavement)

your right, Matt doesn't scream properly, but i like the sound all the same. which, i suppose, makes it all the more tragic.

You won't blow your voice if you scream properly, i learnt the hard way. I like all of that quote^ except, Jesse Leach isn't a good example, as part of his reason for leaving Killswitch was his continuously being blown out. :thumb:

Part of the reason Jesse left KsE is because he couldn't stop blowing his voice out, and it contributed further to his depression. KsE were debating parting ways with him because of his vocal issues.

SimonCore 03-22-2006 10:28 AM

I think Matt heafy didn't even try to have any proper training, or technique. He just screams until his voice goes.

Invicta_Veritas 03-22-2006 10:30 AM

I warm up sometimes for hours before practice to ensure I'm comfortable, so i don't blow my voice out. I think Heafy just goes straight into it......

SimonCore 03-22-2006 10:33 AM

I can do it without hurting my voice. i used to go hoarse after every practise but know i can do it without putting effort into it. safe as.

Did you read the interview in the booklet for the re-release of Alive or Just Breathing? Those were all rumors, his voice blew out a few times because he drank too much, then he quit drinking and went vegan and his voice was fine.

For me with vocals, as long as my throat's in good shape I can scream and growl all I want, however if I'm sick (as I am now) my throat closes up and it's not a good plan, unfortunately my group's German video is due soon, and I play a giant and have to growl for it, so I ended up hurting my voice pretty bad last night because my throat is almost completely closed... I can barely breathe.

Also, I'm whoring them everywhere, and it's relevant cause Heafy does vocals:

Do you (your band) have a purevolume or myspace?

Shred Danson 03-22-2006 01:51 PM

they have a myspace I think, but I don't know if they have any music up.

SimonCore 03-22-2006 02:18 PM

My band's recording in the Easter holidays. Then we'll have Myspace:amaze:

Shred Danson 03-22-2006 02:19 PM

My band just wrapped up recording :D and we're probably goin' back in the studio in the next few months...

SimonCore 03-22-2006 02:26 PM

We're doing it for free! I know someone who has a home recording studio and the quality is much better than recording studios which you have to pay for!

Shred Danson 03-22-2006 02:28 PM

we did the EP for free as well.

SimonCore 03-22-2006 03:08 PM

Seriously my mates stuff is extremly good quality.

i am the robots 03-22-2006 03:29 PM
Do you (your band) have a purevolume or myspace?
As Trevor said, we have a myspace, however we've got no recordings yet or anything really because in order to record we need to get into my one friend's basement, but his parents are really gay about just about everything.

It's not so much a band anymore as it is just us fooling around playing grind/hardcore/death metal/black metal/industrial and not being serious. It's mostly just jamming.

SimonCore 03-22-2006 03:33 PM

^ So you do covers mainly then? Do you play guitar aswell?

Joe 03-22-2006 03:38 PM

So have you guys heard about the Master of Puppets tribute? Trivium is doing the song Master of Puppets. Apparently they play it really well.

/am too late again.
^ So you do covers mainly then? Do you play guitar aswell?
No, we've done like 2 covers, Numbered Days by KSE and Hourglass by Lamb of God.

We mostly just write ridiculously unstructured songs and I come up with lyrics on the spot, lol.

I mostly just write the black metal guitar parts.

I have heard, I think Trivium should do a great job of MoP. However I am dreading hearing the Funeral For A Friend and Fightstar covers.
