I need Hemispheres. I got 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Permanent Waves (on vinyl), and Moving Pictures, and if I get Hemispheres I think I'll have all their 76-81 studio albums. Which is pretty much considered their prime.

BludgeonySteve 01-21-2006 10:25 PM

I'd also get Roll The Bones and Caress of Steel. But yeah, Hemispheres next. You must priorize

BludgeonySteve 01-23-2006 11:28 AM

Yep. Priority. Yep.

Both of those are great (and really underrated.) The Fountain of Lamneth is one of my favorites songs by them.

I finally started learning some rush songs on guitar :p Starting with A Passage to Bangkok. Dunno why I never took time to learn the stuff earlier :-/

GenuineImitation 01-25-2006 10:27 PM

God I need more Rush. I have 2112 and Moving Pictures. I have only enough money for one cd at the time. Which Rush cd should I get?

That riff is very fun to play on the guitar.

I just went to a second hand store and bought a rush: moving pictures record for $1.00

...anyone?

rockinbass17 02-01-2006 09:45 PM

The main character is living in a futuristic Orwellian society in which the "Priests" have taken full control of the "Federation". They moniter everything about hte citizen's lives- artwork, music, and anything else creative is provided by the Priests themselves. The mian character, in ignorance, thinks he has a good life, until he finds an ancient guitar behind a private waterfall. He picks it up and plays it, and loves it.
When he presents it to the Priests, they scold him and crush the guitar. He comes to the sudden realization that life under them is not in fact life at all. In a dream, an oracle shows him the past when men had freewill and createive minds. Realizing he will never get to live free, he kills himself.
This is where the plot gets iffy to me. Something obviously happens after his death. When I listen to it, I conclude that friends/family find his body, and it spurrs a revolution. That's the only way I can explain the ending "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation, we have assumed control...." thing.

Have you ever read Ayn Rands novel entitled Anthem? It is very similar to that in some aspects.

Thank you very much. :)

Cygnus X-1 Book 2 is one of my favourite songs ever. Such a fantastic story and lyrics...

Anybody know if Neil Peart wrote them all himself, or was it inspired by another piece of literature like 2112 and Xanadu?

Cain 02-17-2006 02:17 PM

I think Neil wrote that all himself. To be honest, I find the lyrical themes of "Hemispheres" to be rather weak.

rippa32 02-18-2006 01:57 AM

I wanto get into some Rush, what album should I get? I was thinking of 2112 but is there another that makes a better album for someone just getting into Rush?

blue3 02-18-2006 02:18 AM

Moving Pictures is good too.

Huber 02-18-2006 02:41 AM

Moving Pictures is probably the best first-buy.

Jacaranda 02-18-2006 02:45 AM

I'd go with 2112 personally, its what got me into Rush. Plus it has "A Passage to Bangkok". Which kills.

deathscreamingsheep 02-18-2006 05:49 AM

I love Farewell to Kings because Kublah Khan is one of my favourite poems of all time. Other than that I also love Moving Pictures.

Get them in this order:

1. Moving Pictures
2. 2112
3. Fly By Night
4. A Farewell To Kings

pohl_56 02-18-2006 11:16 AM

Ya know what us RUSH fans should do? Start a RUSH mailing list and other Prog rock. It could be different from the other lists int hat only Prog rock was sent. Anyone else agree?
Ya know what us RUSH fans should do? Start a RUSH mailing list and other Prog rock. It could be different from the other lists int hat only Prog rock was sent. Anyone else agree?
would that be allowed?

pohl_56 02-18-2006 11:26 AM
would that be allowed?
It happens in a bunch of other threads. Mailing lists and such. Just gotta use emails and then send the links so that MX doesn't become incorporated in it. Maybe? Am I right?
