for the grand sum of thirty-six pounds, plus ten pounds pstage and packing, I am now in an entirely theoretical sense the owner of one Tascam Porta02 multi-track recorder.
I hope it gets here soon. |

If that don't get you talking, what will? |
Speaking of stuff, my "g" key seems to be stuck and I have to absolutely smash it to make it work.
Anyway, I want to get some analog drum machines or at least ones that aren't based on my computer. What are some classic ones that I could be on the look out for in second hand stores and so on? |
My new toy:

that looks cool, lick.
|
thanks, it is pretty cool. Just been playing around with it finding out cool things. Backwards audio is pretty nifty, just switch the tape around and record, although it switches the channels round too.
also, in the first pic, you can see a V-amp case.. Long live Vamp! |

If that don't get you talking, what will?
I showed that to a girl in my class who is obsessed with Johnny Depp in Priates of the Carribean. She was devistated. She's now an environmental activist attempting to stop global warming before pirates are wiped out all together. And horray for both the Tascams  |
Im Ed, play guitar and 11(yea young but alright at guitar)and in a band.
|
hi ed.
you are pretty young. i'm not sure i even noticed girls at that age =s Where abouts in the world are you (just country is fine...)? What kind of band are you in? |
Rock/punk band and in england. Y?????
|
If you're 11 and already competent enough at your instrument to play in a band.. keep at it, you could become a welathy session musician :p
|
lol long way to mainstream :) but working on it lol. The band is just an idea one of us had, so we started some songs and stuff ( i put lyrics to one on sonwrting forum)
|
I also live in england.
waycool. |
G'day Ed :)
Have you done any performing or recording with your band yet or...? That's pretty sweet to be in a band at that age. I started with bands at 12 and it really got me into it. How long have you been playing guitar for? |
um abit over a year now for guitar playing and no we aint started recording because we havent got the equiment (no money but we are trying lol)
|
Alright, that's awesome :thumb:.
Yay, I'm jamming tonight . At a year 10 assembly the other day, it got announced that Deprived of Sanity is playing at the yr 10 break up . We're going to do some songs like U2 - Vertigo and Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight; the stuff we can get them really into. Should be awesome. How's everyone going with gigs/recording/whatever? |

I never had any money age 11. in fact, in my first (and only really) serious band when i was 14-15, we didn't have any money and we only managed to record because somebody did it for free. |

Hey dude, welcome to Jam Session.
I never had any money age 11.
No-one did. It was the age of the tamagotchi. |
Hey all.
I had a test on parabolas yesterday. |
Sup Folks,
I'm Chris - Bass player from Niagara Falls.I'm 26, play an Ibanez SRX400, and an Ibanez SR405 - both fretted. My amps, I have a 1968/69(hard to date) ampeg B25B head (with original tubs still - how - I have no idea - they must be magic) and going through to a BXT-410HL4 ampeg cabinet. I also picked up an 30 watt ampeg practice amp for shits n giggles. Currently bandless and looking to jam - I am pretty experienced on stage having well over 1000 shows under my belt between bass an drums. |

I might of got this completely wrong or right and ill look like a fool anyway so who cares lol cause it looks great and if its cheap illlook for one:thumb:
It's a multitrack recorder/mixer. In this case, a 4 track. So you have a maximum of 4 tracks to record onto. It also has a mixer interface. So it's like a mini-studio. (hence it's name portastudio :p ) as it combines all the mixing and recording in one lil box. I can't remember what inputs that model has because I've never owned it. I've got it's little brother http://media.zzounds.com/media/brand,zzounds/p16083h-b49aeef7290ae21b16996a8e2d803fb4.jpg and it's big brother http://www.kellyindustries.com/recorders/tascam_424mkii.html Tascam are the best people to go for with tape multitracks. |
Price range??? seems pretty koool thing and very useful (to me).
Please could some people check out my lyrics on the songwriting forum, cheers |
i don't do lyrics, sorry
my one that i've got (tascam porta02 mkII) cost me £36+£10 on ebay, i'd guess LS's cost quite a bit more than that |
Thanks KKK, yeah its just basically a little multitrack recorder. Its got 4 jack inputs at the front for unbalanced signals which each have their own amplifier and trim controls, 2 XLR mic inputs at the back for balanced microphones and a special 'electric guitar' input also at the back, with its own trim control.
I wanted to have my own one so I could record whenever I want and not just at college. Also I figured I better start with analog since it'll help my understanding of it all. I got mine for £150 new (from www.gak.co.uk), although I shared it with a friend, so really it was £75. Its good because he doesn't use it that much so it stays round my house more. BTW mines the Tascam 414mkII |
the only bad thing about them is that type II tapes aren't so easy to come by nowadays.

Yes they are. |
Yes they are.
not really. Type II are dead in terms of home audio use compared to the other type (normal position) |
not really.
Type II are dead in terms of home audio use compared to the other type (normal position)
They stock TDK SA type II in pretty much every single supermarket for about 90p a cassette. |
