The thing is, from a normal standpoint it isn't out of place, I agree with everything you said. However, when I'm listening to the album I kind of get the mindset of being in a dark, gloomy swamp-like forest. This is simply because of the albums title. Despite whether or not the name had anything to do with the songs' sounds, all the other ones work with that theme for me except Bleak. It was more of a personal critique rather than a general one, but I figured I'd bring it up just to see if anyone else had that feeling going.

Ah. Sorry I couldn't help you there. :) |

Eh, I disagree even with that. "The Funeral Portrait," for example, calls to mind a snowy landscape with a raging inferno. "Harvest" is a warm song, with more oranges and light browns than greys or blacks. |

Also, The Leper Affinity brings up a snow image (lost are days of spring...your gaze covered in virgin snow) I think Mike is talking about a wide array of emotions and is associating them with seasons. He does this a lot, especially on ****ation with Summer. Like in "In My Time of Need"...Summer is miles miles away and in Death Whispered..."Out on the road, fireflies circing", which is in summer. I think that's just Mike style...I jumped back in this, so if someone already said this...my bad |
is that the one where they start with Godhead's lament?
No, Still Life starts with The Moor. Godhead's Lament is the second song...The Moor = A mind****... then, comes Benighted...has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever! |
Like I said fellas, its just what I feel when I listen to it, nothing more. But at least give me that BWP, the song, gives a little dark forest vibe (or maybe not).

More Swampish...because I think it shows someone overcoming and becoming powerful and leaving his problems behind...that's my interepation |
i think it does, but thats only my thought on the song

I've seen them online at Sanity.com, so they could probably get them in store for you. Although, I wouldn't buy from them, apparently their shirts a dodgy, and I just don't like Sanity. |
ok, im going to buy one from melbourne, blackwater park looks good.

He's talking about on the streamed concert from the link. |

When you find some tell me. I got a deliverance shirt from Smoke Dreams, it was the last one, apart from the ones with old style logo, which I don't like that much. I also tried Metal Mayhem but they only had long sleeves (and a lot of them, which pissed me off). |

 i love it, shall be done, and people, is Epilogue a good song to do by yourself to show your music teacher an understanding and a small repertoire of guitar? Most of the stuff i listen to/play is heavier and over 11 min long. So i was thinking epilogue as a nice little thing for music |
:naughty:
Every time i see that face it gets laughing. Good last couple of posts :thumb: Anyone no where i could find a bootlet of Godheads Lament live over the net BTW? |

Yeah, The Leper Affinity does have a "wintery" and cold feeling to it. "We entered Winter once again..." Come to think of it Ivortheenginedriver, Mikael does use seasons alot. Although, I didnt' notice it much, if at all, on Deliverance. Speaking of Deliverance. I know the title track is about a guy who drowns a woman and then realizes he'd lost is salvation, or "deliverance". Does anyone think there is meaning below the surface, like most Opeth songs? peace, Chris

I have been listening to Opeth for about a year now, but I have a bit of a n00bish question. What is "master's apprentice" about?
|

I like Steven Wilson, though I wish he would stop producing Opeth's albums, he's done his part, now they need to expand and grow without him. *I love PT, man, glad to see someone else like them as well. I think we all have associations with weather and seasons. Its a staple of writing, you know, when someone says its raining in a song, usually means something isn't right. I think Mike is just using his prog roots and taking this mantra and running with it. Personally, I agree, MJK, Mike and Brandon from Incubus are my favorite lyricists (along with Dream Theater and PT)...Mike's lyrics are amazing, especially on The Drapery Falls. God, that song is an orgasm! |
