Oh, sorry, dude. To be honest, the only thread I'd worry about is the CoB one.
|
Just leave it alone. Didn't we try closing all the threads that got big and became a community thread? Look at the CoB thread; the people in there cannot go 5 posts without changing the topic to something guitar-related, and if their thread was closed, you don't think someone'd just create another one a week later?
I don't see what the problem of this situation is. Do people actually care that threads get big and people talk about useless things? The banning of general talk in band threads will never work. Now say that we do close all the big threads like last time, you don't think there's going to be a lot more complaining like before? If we do the same procedure as last time, we're going to end up with the same result.
Yeah, I do think people would complain and argue, and I do think they'd try to start up new ones. I still think getting rid of them makes for a better forum, though. |

Oh, I realized why R&M is on a decline. We have become a very strong core group of like 15 people. We all have similar tastes that have pretty much grown with each other as we discover new stuff, so we can all talk for hours about music, etc.
The problem is that soon enough, we'll all grow out of the lifestyle of being able to sit on our arses all day and talk about music. Some people have done this already, hence the dwindling speed of posting around here. And since we're so tight knit(a relative term on the internet), it's really hard for new people to break into the culture and stuff. It's nearly 07 and I can't think of one good 06 user off the top of my head. Granted, I may be forgetting someone(sorry if I am, oh and enc, you don't count), but overwhelmingly, we're a very old group. This is pretty much unfixable though. That's the problem. |
My guess is that the forums will eventually enter into a whole new phase once the last of this generation has died off.
Kind of like moving from dinosaurs to people or something like that. |
I honestly don't see myself stopping coming here for any reason, both in the near and far future.
|
I just don't want to be like Flynn, that's my aversion to being a 40 year old on a web forum.
|
Unless this place gets unbearable, I definitely see myself coming here throughout college. After that, it's all up in the air. I may not have an internet connection at my crappy apartment, etc.
|
Yeah the old metal generation is pretty much gone too, only my and Apocalyptic Raids left.
|
Well that's for the better.
|
That depends on your view, I won't get into a huge argument here but you can't deny the immense knowledge that users like Freezing Moon and Dargon had of metal, even if you didn't like them. Perhaps those who don't care for metal never noticed anyway.
|
oohhh, I thought you mean "old" metal as in Black Sabbath and traditional metal and stuff.
I take back what I said. |
I don't really think this forum is that bad. Of course some users left, and are still leaving, but we can't really do anything about that.
However, I will admit the BM thread was a lot better back when Dargon was around, but not because of his attitude or anything, just basically because he, like many others back then, knew what they were talking about and it was more based on the BM genre, not reccommendations. I still don't have a big problem with it though. |
I don't think it's bad either. It was for a little while, but it seems like the normal growth cycle of forums has not been present here.
|
It just seems slower than ever. This could also be due to most Americans being on break though.
|
Yeah, that's really true too. And do you guys really want a larage influx of new users joining R&M? I sure don't.
|
Dargon was at least entertaining and brought a change within R&M. The reason, I think, that I stopped posting is because everything is kind of looking the same. =/ I think an influx of new users could be nice and refreshing, you know?
Edit: New ideas, new thoughts, you know? Don't get me wrong, I love the community here although I don't participate in it as much, but when I read certain threads it's the same users over and over. MX may have a large amount of users, but honestly I see the same people posting in threads all of the time. Edit #2: But, what do I know? I lurk and I still have my halloween avatar on, heh. |
There usually is such an influx around Christmas/New Year, because of people getting new computers.
This whole exchange reads weirdly to me because all the people you're mentioning are firmly in the "new" section of my mind. |

Meh, it'd be nice but only if they didn't blow. Cain is another valuble casualty. And Bart, how much traffic did R&M have during your first year or so compared to now? |
What happened to Cain?
|
Cause of Death unknown.
AKA, he hasn't been around for a long time. College happened. |
He posts in the pit, I know that. But I haven't seen him in R&M in some time.
|
Ah. He's a cool guy, I wondered what happened to him.
I think the best time I had in R&M was the summer of '05. |
Yeah, no lie Aaron3. That was good fun, heh.
Cain still posts in the pit Austin? wtf |
Cain dropped by R&M a month or two ago briefly, but I haven't seen him since then. I was hoping he'd stay around. :-\
|
munkymagik always makes great cameos every few weeks. He was a beast as well.
:nostalgia: |
Yeah, no lie Aaron3. That was good fun, heh.

Kingofdudes is the other.

The forums in general were smaller, I know that, but what was discussed under 'R&M' was more loosely defined back then so people who would now post in other forums about other kinds of music posted in here too (OrbDragon and Nacho, for example), and there was a much higher turnover of users than there is now. Anyway, without avatars I paid a lot less attention to who was who. |
Hey, it seems like Vince has neglected RMOTM and he hasn't really posted here this month. Would I be jumping the gun if I did it?
I'd email him, but I don't know it and I'm too lazy to check his profile. :p Austin - He still posts, he's just the prime example of what I mentioned earlier. He's at home, got his job back, spends time with his fam and girl, etc. He ought to be back. |
