You're likely to make more money over the course of ten years working as a construction labourer than you are doing a four year degree and then trying to work in that field for the next six.
Though, it's probably best to try and get a degree early in life because once you've worked for a while and gotten a taste for having money it's unlikely you'd ever want to go back to studying for no guarantees. |
It would help if you were built for construction; at 5' 4" and 60kgs (yes I mix metrics and imperial bitches) they'd probably just laugh at me if I tried to apply for a job like that :p
|
Nah the weediest blokes can pull it off hey, it's not just that but any job that pays decently is usually a better bet than doing half a decade of school thinking you'll come out of it at the top of the business heap then ending up being manager-in-waiting at Wendy's or some shit.

I'm going to be moving back in with my parents and cutting back by 20 hours per week for the next two years to get my degree. Not excited for it. |

Having said that, because a majority of them are deadshits who can't organise a fuck in a brothel, you can capitalise off them in accounting/advertising, etc. |
Everyone I know who got an accounting degree for example is not an accountant, just saying.

Um, which country single handed fucked up the entire economy of the world quite recently? |
you tell em Australia, we got your back.
no offense to you America, we like you too *shifty eyes* |
We're important man we're the number one exporter of camel meat to the Ruskies.

There're a million posts I can comment on over the past page, but dang. Camel meat? That's something I think I could do without for a long, long while.
Coincidentally regarding the construction discussion I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Fort McMurray, Alta. right now and he was telling me about going back to work for a company he left four months ago with a day's notice... and those guys hired him back like nothing! Man oh man, labour is the bomb-diggety up there. Although cost of living bankrupts like a billion percent of people in Fort Mac, but hey. |

YOU DONT KNOW SHIT YOUR STATE SUCKS ASS" same thing happens when you insult soccer (gayest sport in the world) "SOCCER DOESNT SUCK! AMERICAN FOOTBALL SUCKS, YOU SUCK, SOCCER DOESNT SUCK!!!!" and what just happened when i insulted australia "AUSTRALIA DOESNT SUCK!!!! AMERICA SUCKS!!! YOU DONT EVEN!!!!!!" its like some kind of autistic knee-jerk reaction to instantly assume that i will get as upset as you over my country being insulted lmfao |

A math degree, however, will get you into loads of places. That sounds almost as delicious as the brain tacos that I ate yesterday. I didn't really notice that brains (cleverly disguised as "cabeza," meaning "head") were served up in Mexican restaurants, but it is. Incredibly rich flavor and amazingly tender. I couldn't eat more than a few, though, because it's just that rich. |

I keep thinking of Tacos for Zombies or something :| but hey, if t'was delicious, I guess that's what counts! |
Next time I shave, I might just leave the soul patch, and let it grow, haha.
Then again, maybe not. |

I've never been ID'd for anything ever. But then, I also don't drink. I keep as much of a beard as I can grow... which admittedly is not very much! Don't get it on my cheeks really. And I hate moustaches, so that shit gets whipped right off.

You're in a fairly successful rock band in a country where the legal purchasing age is 18, but you don't drink? That story doesn't make much sense. |

Someone I know has a sweet job in some kind of high up position in Games Workshop. He was supposed to have like an English degree for it or something, idk, but he blagged it because he has an obscure degree in dark ages/medieval history. So yeah, sure it opens doors. Just not always the ones you expected.
Must suck to have a drinking age of 21. I can't even comprehend that. |
Yeah 18 years drinking limit was awesome, go British colonization!
Probably only bought alcohol for myself/others like 3 times since then, which was about two years ago lol, poor student life is balls. |
Do it.
I find that keeping a short beard helps to extend my face just a little bit and saves the hassle of pulling out my ID when buying liquor.
I just realised how much harder my job would've been if I worked in America. Over here the general rule (which no one follows) is to ID someone if they look under 25 even though the age is 18. Anyway, my theory is such that I believe it would be more difficult to tell if someone is over 21 than it is to tell if someone is over 18. By that I mean, the difference in people who're 20 and 21 is decidedly less than the difference in someone who's 17 and say 19 (at least in most cases, discluding man-children). |

I'm sick of this "poor student" whinging. My friends do it to. I live in a nice place, save money and buy shit I don't need all the time. I study full time and play in a band 2-3 times a week. I have the time and energy to work enough to support everything I do and then some. So by my logic, everyone should be able to. |
Not everyone is as awesome as you Ryan.
And besides. I've bought a lot of shit in the last two years. Three computers, a 40 inch HDTV, pedals, an amp, a six string bass (I eventually sold it at a profit), lots of takeout...etc etc etc. But alcohol never really took priority, mainly because all the above stuff came out a savings fund. Spending savings on alcohol doesn't really work very well. It's the week to week money that's very tight. |

Which I guess is essentially what you're saying. Doesn't matter what you studied, the thought process and general education puts you above the person who didn't spend 4 years studying their ass off. |

Anyway, I've pulled too much out of savings lately, needed a new laptop for uni, bought my bike earlier this year, I'm sure there was something else useless in there. I'm not sure how I manage to get by week to week in retrospect, I must be more careful with my money than most people. At least people I know. |
