Thats how it is for me. Bands like Blacktusk and Baroness are typically as far as I can get into hardcore.

Mainly sludge, although it shoudln't be too core influenced.
Oh and I like grind(core) from time to time.

They're good. Its hard to find good hardcore, really. It starts to just sound the same. Plus I despise the "scene" that grows around it.
