I'm downloading their first album right now, if I like it I'll definitely get the 2nd.

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 09:51 PM

Yeah, that album is ok. The 2nd track is really ****ing good, but the rest isn't up to par tbh.

RetiredAt21 07-02-2008 09:55 PM
Sombres Forets are a good band. You should also consider checking out Gris if you haven't. Il Etait une Foret is a good cd, also all I've heard by the band so far. The last song on that album is all piano, violin, acoustic guitar and it is absolutely brilliant.

The typical dsbm sound gets tiring extremely quickly.
Yeah, for DSBM they aren't bad at all.

Stormrider 07-02-2008 10:00 PM

Tbh, I don't really group Sombres Forets and Gris with bands like Nyktalgia, Sterbend, Kaeltetod etc.

RouteOne 07-02-2008 10:00 PM

Sombres Forets has some really solid songs, but after a while I have to listen to something else.

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 10:00 PM

Dude, Jammie, that Christicide isn't that good. I liked the direction they were going on Apex - it wasn't quite mature, but on their new album they completely cleaned up their sound... it's pretty generic and uninspired. All they have to show for themselves now is poor English.

I'm glad they got rid of that tin can snare sound, though. God, that almost completely ruined Apex for me.

Hmm, I haven't even listened to yet, but from the 10 seconds I listened to I realized right away the production was much different and I much rathered how the demo sounded.

RouteOne 07-02-2008 10:06 PM

Just checked out sterbend, pretty decent imo.

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 10:07 PM

yeah. I listen to them a lot when driving, and i get so absorbed i often close my eyes.

Angmar 07-02-2008 10:09 PM

I think Sterbend are a little too obvious Burzum worship, don't care for their vox either. You should also check out Nyktalgia if you haven't Ron.

Hope you have decent airbags. :p

Daven 07-02-2008 10:10 PM

What's Sterbend like?

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 10:10 PM

dude yeah. i was driving home a few weeks ago on some seriously little sleep, and i nodded off while listening to headphones and completely sideswiped a telephone pole. only took off my passenger mirror, but it could have been worse.

1338 h4x0r 07-02-2008 10:11 PM

It's really like Burzum

But I still like them tbh

I have Peisithanatos, I love it.

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 10:12 PM

All very mid-paced. Has a really depressive Hvis Lyset Tar Oss feel to it, with higher pitched and more distant vocals. Sticks to a pretty run-of-the-mill depressive black metal sound, but vocally is where it stands out.

RouteOne 07-02-2008 10:12 PM

Vocals are so important to me. I hate it when I hear good musicianship then their vocalist sounds like utter ****.

Daven 07-02-2008 10:14 PM

Well, sounds good. Which is a good album to check them out?

Stormrider 07-02-2008 10:14 PM

About Nyktlagia:

I never got passed the first song and last time I tried listening to it, I found the first 2 or so minutes kinda uninteresting, but it finally picked up after that into something good, but after a couple minutes of that went right back into the intro stuff that was dull.

I stopped it after that.

yeah, you'll listen to a track intro and think "this muzik is pretty siqq, good find" and then *dickpunch*

Nostalgia 07-02-2008 10:16 PM
Well, sounds good. Which is a good album to check them out?
Dwelling Lifeless. The first song (not counting the intro) is so great. Strictly Burzum worship, but still great.

DERSIEGDERKRIEGDERKAMPF 07-02-2008 10:21 PM

I tried listening to them but after hearing them rip off Burzum pretty much note for note I didn't bother.

RiceMonster 07-02-2008 10:28 PM

I listened to Sterbend about 3 times and then it got boring because it was, like others said, a burzum ripoff.

Stevie II 07-03-2008 11:46 AM

so whats with NSBM bands singing in english when their native language differs? i want to ask rob darken that

RiceMonster 07-03-2008 12:11 PM

Hmm, I never thought about that. A lot of NSBM bands do sing in their native language, but I guess it boils down to the fact that 99.99% of NSBM band members are retarded.

They have a couple really good songs. Very tasteful use of keyboards imo.

RouteOne 07-03-2008 12:28 PM
lol
What? I d/l'd it.

masada 07-03-2008 12:29 PM

their first one is way better
