To Amit

Yeah, what I really meant was if I say I listen to Beethoven, I wont get someone going 'Why would you do such a thing? Chopin was much better on piano'. I didn't clarify enough.

NP:Prokofiev - Piano Sonata nr.3 in A minor op.28 - I. Allegro Tempesto

Cain 02-01-2006 12:25 PM
actually the classical world is completely dominated by who plays better or worse than who

that's cool though

i was never into any of the classical music besides stuff made by dirty russians
Not quite. Liszt violin virtuosos and so on being an exception, I feel it tends to be based less on individual musicians than individual composers with a rounded musical vision as opposed to the showcasing of just one instrument. The elitism of classical comes across on much larger scales than the rather narrow views of quality in metal music, which are based primarily on technical skill. Classical is an elitist genre all to itself, or at least that's what the establishment's become over the past hundred years, being as it is "high art." Pretty much any classical musician worth his salt will have tremendous repertoire and technical facility. The question is will the composer's music demand that kind of talent, and does the musical vision expressed via the presence or lack of the skill speak to the listener? This is why nobody talks about "durr, this symphony's better than this other version of the same symphony because this orchestra has a better violin player blah blah blah," it's just "I like this symphony."
damn dude, you look mad cool
I do my best.

Mazeppa 02-01-2006 12:29 PM

Just fyi, Liszt was a virtuoso pianist.

Edit: to Cain

i like having a name with a face :thumb:

Tons of musicians talk crap on others. I think its only to compensate for their inability. If you are GOOD, its obvious. Its not like you need to flaunt it like a new pair of teets from Doctor 90210

Heres my album list... http://www.last.fm/user/Guitrguy/charts/&charttype=overall&subtype=album
actually all of my friends who are classical majors are just like that
You don't need to be a classical major for that, some musician's interpretations are just plain better then other's.

kurrpt 02-01-2006 12:45 PM

grtguy: ive hear about half of those albums. Thats VERY good considering

gmoneyguy 02-01-2006 12:46 PM

kurrpt 02-01-2006 12:48 PM
considering what?
considering my exposure to newer realms of music that were not available...

Steerpike 02-01-2006 01:15 PM

Thanks for the Edguy tracks, Josh. I love this band.

If the rest of Rocket Ride is even half as good as this stuff, then those who are being all emo about the album need to get the hell over themselves and grow a sense of humor.
Not ALL of us are overweight, but a LARGE portion are.
That too. It's kind of gross, actually.
However, fat people = excellent musicians.
Charles Mingus, Notorious BIG

I have to agree

I GOT THE JOB!!!!

I'm now a guitar counselor at Long Lake Camp for the Arts. Awesomeness. I get to chill for five weeks before going to camp and then I stay for two months and play guitar nonstop ALL SUMMER.

RE: Fat People

They're pretty gross, but as I have a ton of overweight relatives they tend to elicit more sympathy than antipathy from me.

Steerpike 02-01-2006 02:24 PM
Man-period.
There's some mental images I could live without.

NP: Sabaton - Metal Machine

kurrpt 02-01-2006 02:25 PM

hows the pay?

most camps don't pay per hour, so you kinda get hosed unless you are REALLY into it
