I've been listening to this Mos Def/Prefuse 73 album I found on soulseek entitled Urbanrenewalprogram/Ninjatune. For the most part it's really a V/A compilation with RJD2, Miho Hatori and some other dudes (such as.. Tortoise???). It's pretty good considering I haven't heard most of the artists in it.
So I got Speaking In Tongues and Little Creatures, the last two Talking Heads DualDiscs I want yesterday. Speaking In Tongues is another album I only ever heard on vinyl and mp3. The new stereo mix is superb. Superb, superb, superb. Little Creatures I always kind of ignored, and always heard was plenty good compared to their earlier material, so I took its re-release as an opportunity to give it a fair chance. It's great too.
I've got the former on regular cd, a teacher at my school sold it to me for $2 or something. I'd be interested to hear the new mix, I might even buy it. |
Bad Brains - Black Dots
In some ways I prefer it to their s/t. It's got Don't Bother Me and the Man Won't Annoy Ya. The production is also very good. |
Hypatia Lake - ......And We Shall Call Him Joseph
Holy ****, this is good. Reminds me of The Jesus And Mary Chain. It's a shoegazey concept albumy thing. "Hypatia Lake seamlessly merges elements of noisy shoegaze a la Slowdive, the electronic textures of M83, weirdo-pop via Mercury Rev, organically psychedelic elements similar to Pink Floyd, and woefully emotional vocals reminiscent of Arcade Fire's Win Butler." |
Alarm Will Sound
I can't stop listening to them. |
Tub Ring, because I'm going to see them tonight.
The Offspring - Americana, because I've been meaning to take a trip down memory lane to where I was about 9-10. |
Super Furry Animals - Mwng
Listening to music sung in Welsh makes me feel hip. |
Mogwai - Mr. Beast
More specifically, the DVD that came with it. This is a gorgeous album, one of their best records. The DVD is a 40 minute documentary on the recording of the album. So you see the guys screwing around while some record and others play games, talk, make eggs, etc etc. It's a nice little accompaniment to the full album. |
I didn't know it came out.

It comes out next Tuesday and since I preordered it, it arrived a little early. |
Modest Mouse - Whenever You Breathe Out, I Breathe In (Positive Negative)
Cursive - Art is hard Beats for Beginners - Need You Tonight Elliott Smith - Independance Day |
Black Flag - First Four Years
I can play a mean blues guitar version of Wasted. |
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
|
Le Car - Auto-Biography.
Pretty fun. |
The National - Alligator
I still think there is some filler, but this album gets better every listen. City Middle is an incredible song though. If you want to hear the National download that song, it's perfect. |
Mogwai. I'm getting ready to see them on Tuesday.

1 Clutch 122
2 Cock Sparrer 79 3 Conflict 59 4 Coliseum 32 5 The Wildhearts 30 6 Elvis Costello 24 7 Sufjan Stevens 23 7 Cocteau Twins 23 9 Talking Heads 21 10 The Beatles 18 Big Fat Pig, by Clutch, came on with my playlist on random, and the lyrics caught my attention and got me properly listening to Jam Room for the first time, really. I need more Clutch. Conflict and Cock Sparrer always come together for me, for some reason, so that's them. Coliseum's still a new purchase, and the Cocteau Twins got plays just because of all the other Cs playing. The rest are incidental. At the moment I'm not listening to anything; trying to think of the name of an Annie Lennox song from the early 90s (I think), and failing, badly. |
Harmonia's Musik Von Harmonia is amazing. I described it to a guy who has already heard it as having "an alien rainforest vibe," and he agreed. This is the drummer from Neu! with the 2 guys from Cluster. Eno called them "the world's most important rock group." I love it!
