Get rid of it.
Get a really good four. Or get a fiver. The low B could be handy. But this is my opinion speaking not yours. What should do is listen to me. Really, you should. Honestly. I NEVER had a need for the high C unless I was gona play some solo bass (read: lol).
Yeah I never use it at all, a good five string would be ideal actually. I mean my other basses have a place, my 4 string is customised up the arse and I use it for most everything. My musician is not going ANYWHERE. EVER. All that's left is my first bass, aka practise bass and the 6er which never gets plugged in let alone picked up. I could only sell it for around 700 though I reckon. I'd love to get a good 4 string acoustic and a nice 5er (or build one) but don't really have the cash for either at the moment. I should get onto that tax return... |
This made me lol. Now if you were always this mildly self deprecating things between us would be a lot better bby.
The thing about the internet is that it's difficult to convey tone. I'm quite often like this. What I don't like is people unnecessarily being assholes. Criticize me and my music, say what you will, just don't be a total dick about it and all is fine. I never actually get mad about what people say about my music, but that doesn't mean I won't give a genuine response to what's said. |

But I can't.
It's quite nice, not exactly a sitting down bass though. A good strap and it's pretty nifty. I'm gonna keep my listen out around locally but if nothing comes up in the near future I might ebay that shit. |
I was originally looking for a Cort 6 because I really liked how Joz's looked and I was impressed with the 5ers that I had played in Guitar Center.
Do you guys have something equivalent to Craigslist down there? Or something like a popular free online classifieds ads? |

Joel stay out of Australia.
|
Bitch you don't get to tell me where I may or may not live.
|
I'm watching Eagle vs Shark at the moment you lot did well on it. |

Shit my house is copping some epic thunder at the moment.
|
Lol I hear the boat that rocked is quite good too. Eagle vs. Shark was very kewl.
Really I should visit my birthplace some time, who will put me up with a couch, food and blow? |
I might. You'll have to live on a couch though.
|
I thought the main caveat would be that you won't blowing him.
|
I see you've forgotten to take into account my mirror balls!
|
Money came my way and that compressor is mine tomorrow :D.

Man, I'm so tempted to put a 4-band Noll preamp in my 8-string. It's the same one that Ritter used/uses and it's amazing.
|
I've been toying with the idea of replacing the preamp in my SRX500, to either an ACG or an Aguilar. I loved the sound I got out of it at the last rehearsal though so I'm loathe to spend any extra cash seeing as I'm dropping a bit to upgrade the bridge, pegs and hardware in general.

I like Aguilar, but I've heard great things about ACG. However, I've never used a filter-based preamp before and the $300 price tag have deterred me from it (then again, the Noll will cost $275 to import from Germany lol) If you liked the sound out of it, don't change it. If you like the sound you get from it, but think you could use a bit more tonal control, then replace it. |
With that bass, I don't want to tweak the settings, and never do once they're set. So, control isn't so much the issue for me, I just like to get a great tone and set-and-forget it. I guess for now the tone is fat so, I'll slap my wrist as I reach for the wallet. There's plenty of other stuff to buy after all :).
I seriously need the bridge though, the thing is that that bass lives in C tuning and I'm worried about the intonation (maybe even the neck itself), the intonation has always been out above the 12th fret, especially on the two highest strings, because the bridge couldn't adjust far enough to take it - I'm banking on the Schaller bridge to be more adjustable than the stock Ibanez bridge was because I really need that thing to get into proper intonation from tip to tail. |

As a rule of thumb, move the saddles nearly all the way forward and measure with them in that position to place the bridge. That way you'll always have enough room to adjust the saddles back for intonation. |
Joel, I'm looking for a microphone that will make my voice sound halfway decent and not so nasaly. I'd say I'm somewhere in the baritone/tenor range. Any suggestions for a relatively decent price ($200 - $300 USD)?
|
Just buy a 58.
|
Unless you're asking about a proper studio mic. Some of my favourite albums were recorded with a 58 on the vocals though.

I do like what an SM58 does for my vocals, especially as compared to the cheap POS's I have now or even an SM57, but I was looking for something a bit better without so much mud in the lower frequencies. I've been reading good things about an SM7 and the Heil PR30. |

SM7 is a really good vocal mic if you have a good pre amp; dunno how it'd go live. It's a bit chunky and for the price I wouldn't trust it on stage, could get broken easily.
Just get a 58 man. A mic won't make you sound any less nasally. Case and point, an album I'm working on we had done most of the lead vocal. But had to punch in just one syllable at the end of the song. The original mic we used (AKG C414XLII) wasn't available so we used a Geffell UM92.1s (or something like that). Which is a tube mic with a totally different sound to the AKG. But once we matched levels, you couldn't tell the difference. If your voice sounds good, the mic will make it sound better. If your voice sounds great a good mic will make it sound amazing. If your voice is shit, it always will be. |
