Great band.

How did it go?

Matt? 03-02-2006 10:58 PM

um something about body and soul were the only lines that really stuck with me

but the melody is still in my head, it's their new single i think

YDload 03-02-2006 11:05 PM

I'm guessing it's called "Where Soul Meets Body" because that's the only song I've heard from them as well (It's on MTV/VH1 too).

Kurtz 03-02-2006 11:29 PM

Yeah, it's definitely Soul Meets Body.

I'm really digging Band of Horses. The First Song is so good. and for some odd reason it made me think that even though Radiohead - The Tourist is a great song as it is, it would have been awesome like this.

Matt? 03-02-2006 11:38 PM

someone should upload some death cab for the mailing list, i really dug that track, really catchy

For an indie-rock hipster frontman, Ben Gibbard sure is fat. People like him are supposed to be thin and wiry! He looks more like a tech support guy who plays Warcraft while trying to help people fix their computers.

I couldn't think of a better description

Matt? 03-03-2006 12:12 AM

is he really fat? i find that hard to believe, that that voice came from a fat guy

sgrevs 03-03-2006 12:13 AM

Hahaha, nice. I love him though, his lyrics and vocals are just beautiful, and often heart-wrenching.

Death Cab rule, I really want them to come to Australia. Come!

Sunset Rubdown - Sunset Rubdown (EP)

I might be addicted to "Bubblegum" by Annie.

asymm 03-03-2006 11:28 AM
"The First Song" is the good kind of epic, as opposed to the bad kind of epic (Blueberry Boat or Destroyer's Rubies). There needs to be more "The First Song"s in the world.
I still think it sounds like a B-side from My Morning Jacket's Z. It's not that bad, but it's definitely not special either. Oh well, I can handle them being a buzz band, as long as its not a CYHSY-like group, I'm happy.

-The Essex Green - Everything is Green

A nice little E6 group (at least I think they're from E6?). Nothing special, and pretty standard as far as the whole E6 neo-psych thang goes, but they're pretty enjoyable.

-Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

I'm sure y'all are quite familiar with it, but I just gave Wilco my first proper listen last night. Me likey.

-maudlin of the Well - Bath/Leaving Your Body Map

I've been ignoring them in favor of Kayo Dot for a while now... I had to bust them out again. And boy howdy, I realized how awesome The Secret Song is. I never listened to that one enough back in my major motW heyday.

-Blonde Redhead - Misery is a Butterfly

Still somewhat stuck in my minor obsession with this. I just can't dig the dude's singing. And I can't seem to dig the other album I've heard of theirs, either. Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons is its name. Me not diggin' it is its game.

And I'm currently playing Isis - Panopticon. Another good'n I haven't digged out to dig in a while.

So good. May be overtaking This Is Our Music as the best G500 album.
On Fire beats them both.

Yeah, they're E6 affiliated in some way. They've got an album coming out later this month, Cannibal Sea. Pretty well-executed pop that I just can't seem to care enough about to get into.

I'm listening to Stan Getz's Captain Marvel for the first time with a semi-"oh-shit" face popping up every now and then. Really good stuff, with my limited experience of Getz, never even saw it coming. Fast paced and wildly rhythmic.

Zappa 03-03-2006 05:06 PM

So I got Speaking In Tongues and Little Creatures, the last two Talking Heads DualDiscs I want yesterday. Speaking In Tongues is another album I only ever heard on vinyl and mp3. The new stereo mix is superb. Superb, superb, superb. Little Creatures I always kind of ignored, and always heard was plenty good compared to their earlier material, so I took its re-release as an opportunity to give it a fair chance. It's great too.

Indeed, they're easy to not care about. They're fairly good, but you could easily ignore them in favor of some other better, more unique bands.

I like 'em, but they're not something I'll be able to listen to on any sort of regular basis.

Husker Du - Zan Arcade
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Jon Spencer Blues Explosion

The Jon Spencer album is enjoyable, in a bizarre sort of way.

5 Björk albums.
I haven't heard too much Björk before, but so far, Post > Debut. Debut is a bit too cheesy and sounds dated. I haven't heard the other ones yet.

After the Flood is the best song ever guys, honestly.

Bouncing Souls - How I Spent My Summer Vacation

It's just so much fun, so catchy and full of great songs with kickass choruses. Listening to this just now makes me realise how much i miss this stuff.
