edit: to my last post

there's some major groaning going on during the SOTU...social security is a tough subject

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-02-2005 08:26 PM

Haven't seen Bamboozled. Anyone seen Cry Freedom with Denzel Washington? I had to watch it for World Geography.

Joe 02-02-2005 08:26 PM
Hey hey hey. Guess who's back.

**** I'm supposed to be watching that for Political Science.
Glad to see people like it, it's Blues Traveler's s/t. It's a great album.

It's really psychodelic :), JP

I like it better than the cat. Never liked that cover.

Bamboozled is insane. It's one of the most important movies about race made in the past ten years at least, in my opinion. I'm not kidding, Americans that care about the state of the nation should watch it.

Ok I'm done. Hopefully someone will follow my rather insistant advice. :)

Anyways, I'm glad today is over. I had all my classes lasting all day, and I'm really tired out.

I used to like Blues Traveler, only like one song. Then Direct TV had a concert of theirs for free (they also had SRV, the Clash, Goo Goo Dolls, etc) and i was amazed. I really like them now

Is their style just blues? Or do they play a different kind of music and I just got fooled by the name?

jpj 02-02-2005 08:32 PM
I like it better than the cat. Never liked that cover.
Yea, when i saw it as an avatar I thought it was far too yellow.

And yea Blues Traveler is great. Four, s/t, and Travelers and Thieves are all fantastic albums.

jpj 02-02-2005 08:34 PM
Is their style just blues? Or do they play a different kind of music and I just got fooled by the name?
They play a more accessible, and in some cases "poppy" form of blues.

I'll look for it the next time I rent movies. I'm planning on renting the Beatles Anthology dvd soon. I only had a half day of school. :p
Is their style just blues? Or do they play a different kind of music and I just got fooled by the name?
You got fooled. They play some light rock, blues, normal rock, and some other types. The lead singer is an amazing harmonica player and the guitarist is quite talented

magicbus 02-02-2005 08:36 PM

Yea its not all blues. I've never heard a blues song by them, but I haven't listened to them much.

Joe 02-02-2005 08:37 PM
Yea its not all blues. I've never heard a blues song by them, but I haven't listened to them much.
It's not heavy SRV or Clapton blues, but they've got some more bluesy tunes and riffs

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-02-2005 08:39 PM

Blues Traveler was on VH1's I Love the 90's. Does anyone know how many harmonicas that guy has? (Sorry, can't remember his name.)

Be warned, though: the movie makes you think long and hard about racial issues today in a very uncomfortable, inescapable way if you're white. Get it with the intent to think long and hard about a complex issue. It's not what I would call a casual rental: the only reason I recommend it is because I literally think it's that important of a movie. It's meant as a satire but becomes so much much more.

Joe 02-02-2005 08:40 PM

Bush is driving me crazy.

1st he says less spending
2nd he lists what he wants to spend, which is a lot of $, more than he said he would save

edit: to rockjunkie, i have no idea how many he has

jpj 02-02-2005 08:41 PM

His name is John Popper, and I'm sure he has a ton of harmonicas.

I despise VH1, they persist on talking about metal, and then when they do, they interview Lit and a bunch of cheesey Hair Metal bands.

Better than MTV

But on the top 100 metal moments or the top 40 least metal moments half of the bands i have never heard of

xizoesira 02-02-2005 08:43 PM

VH1, from what I've gathered when I venture into the parent's TV area, is playing a lot of that peppy rap these days.

Cain 02-02-2005 08:43 PM
I despise VH1, they persist on talking about metal, and then when they do, they interview Lit and a bunch of cheesey Hair Metal bands.
 I've never seen Lit on TV, period. And also, hair metal rocks. Only the most popular groups were of the style-over-substance vein, just as the most popular groups in any genre are to an extent, especially today. The rest made some kick-*** tunes, in addition to some really funny videos.

It's gotta be one of the world's more pathetic facts that MTV had to make another MTV channel just so the company could still have some ties with actual music.

Well, I'm back. Gocaps, When you listed your top 18 in metallica thread, I over-looked Horsemen and Seek & Destroy. I'm kinda embarrassed about that..

Truth.

I wouldn't spend my time watching either of them though because they're both a complete waste of time.

I wouldn't, but I'm too tired to get in a political argument. And I'd go to the pit if i wanted to

Metallica fanboys piss me off sometimes, they are always like, Metallica is awesome, they're the best metal band ever! They're so much better than [insert another mainstream band here] and then if you're like, I agree they are good, but what about Opeth, or something like that, they say something like "Opeth?, who the hell is Opeth," and then they won't accept anything when you try to introduce them, cause it turns out that they don't like metal, and they're just being trendy.

That was random...

Oh and that doesn't make them fanboys, even though there are a lot on these forums. It's an opinion. Metallica fans are allowed to say "Metallica is awesome, they're the best metal band ever! They're so much better than [insert another mainstream band here]"

edit: It's not that I disagree, the fanboys annoy me too. It's just not all big fans of Metallica aren't fanboys.
